Prototype (the game)
« on: August 01, 2007, 06:28:32 am »
Just recently heard of this interesting new game called Prototype by Sierra. Theres hardly any news on it just yet but it looks like one to watch out for. Heres a small article at Gamespot
There are also some game informer scans hanging around the net.
From the sounds of its a dream come true, Super mutant powers in a free roam setting. Who ever you kill you can take their memories skills and also transform into them, theres also an element of parkour I believe.

It sounds kinda like Crackdown. Is it PS3 only, cause that would hurt their sales big time, aside from practically no-one knowing about it.

It looks like a cross between Crackdown and The Thing. Which is awesome.

This looks like fun. Like Crackdown/Spiderman/Hulk sorta.
Just running around and ripping through stuff, nothing slowing you down.

Gameplay looks kinda meh, but sometimes I just like to pop a game to do some mindless rampaging, you know?
Crackdown was pretty shallow, but it was still fun to screw around sometimes. Prototype looks tons better than that.

Hope it's good though. I'll likely be getting it, so long as there aren't hundreds of scathing reviews.

I wish there were more of a storyline...from what I see it's just "You forgot stuff. Kill!"

inFamous looks much better to me, but I have no PS3....

I'm mixed on the two, Prototype's powers look great but story seems lacking and inFamous looks to have better story but the powers seem lamer.
I need a new tag.

I'll probably wait til post release for my pinion. If I hear that there is a storyline, I'll get it. If it's another crackdown....well, no thanks. Crackdown is fun, but...there's only so much you can do with no/little storyline, and Prototype doesn't have the orbs.

Too easy. "Oh, I just threw another tank into a helicopter...then I completely destroyed the entire joint task force sent to take me out. Flew around for half an hour, found another tank, piledrove it, and then I stood still while I got shot by and RPG. No damage!"

:/

Maybe they're just showcasing the endgame, but I want to see the story expanded upon.

"Pwn everyone and everything." Really? "Open World Adaptive Parkour" No, that's flight. And apparently this guy is INCREDIBLY dense, because picking up an SUV while in midair changed his velocity almost none. Unless he can someone control that, letting him fly?

Well, This game is the Spiritual Sequel of The incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction, and i have played that game a very long time and i have had great fun with it. i just love the "destruction" type of games where you are the ultimate being and you are able to destroy EVERYTHING.
So I'm definitely looking forward to this one as well and I'm sure I'll be picking this up no matter how bad the reviews say that it would be too easy. Because it makes you feel god and you can put all your anger in the game :P its like a sackpuppet  ;D

And i mean You're now able to controll tanks! and helicopters! and there's zombies! lots of zombies in New York! And you can transform yourself into a soldier and then fight the zombie horde with a machinegun! When you get surrounded, you just transform yourself back in your most badass attack form and.....

Methinks this is gonna be more in line with games like SimCity. Except it deals with wanton destruction (though, SC is a pretty awesome game for unleashing destruction) instead of city management.

I think I'm gonna love this game. :)

to every one that is saying the game has a lack of story line it really doesn't. though I may not know it for sure. If you go to the main site you should get hint about the game and about how the games storyline/gameplay coexist. apparently if you choose to follow the story it means you want to find out more about what happend, but if you follow gameplay in the game this means that you want revenge instead of knowleg.

I've read about this game from awhile back, and from what I remember the way it revealed the story was actually rather unique. At the time I read the article it seemed they were putting a lot of effort into it and you don't put that much effort into the way you tell a story without the story being rather cool itself. Now I'm not saying this will have some totally awesome could-have-been-a-book story, because it probably isn't. At the core this game seems to be about what we've seen so far, playing as a godlike being that can totally destroy everything in it's path, but at the same time I'm pretty sure that from what I've read that they didn't shirk us on the story either.

Anyways, this game looks fun and I'm most likely getting it at launch.

I'll probably buy this because ATM im sick of dieing when I get to 5 stars in GTA IV. I really just kind of wat to be able to wreck everyone and everything and then brush it off like it was nothing whenever I want... Yeah...

While it may be more of a toy than a game, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Spore is a toy, Line rider is a toy, Dwarf Fortress is a toy. I mean, toys are fun too...

That's a big mistake on their part then. Some people put more value in a demo than in a review, so it could lose them sales.
Besides, there are plenty of people who will get a demo another way, and then forget to buy the game.

Oh i agree, I never listen to reviews but a demo can change my mind from skeptical to i want it. It did with Red faction for example.

No Prototype demo does not affect me personally as i was already going to get it. But i really was hoping they would release a demo.

I don't need a demo. I've played a demo a long time ago, Its called The Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction. Same developer, same gameplay, perhaps even same Engine. I loved it and played it for hours and hours, i have no doubt Prototype will give me that experience as wel. Perhaps even better.

I wonder how long this will go on.

Dead Rising had an achievement where you had to kill 53594 zombies

L4D had achievement where you had to kill 53595 infected

Now Prototype has an achievement where you have to kill  53596 infected.

I wonder if Dead rising 2 will have one where you must kill 53597 zombies  ;D.

I dunno. It seems like much more of a hack-n-slash...not much into those. It looks too much like God of War..swarms of enemies that you just cut through with one attack, over...and over again. I don't want unlimited power, that's too easy. I want some difficulty, or at least a few other tactics thrown in.. Also: The destruction animations for vehicles (tanks/choppers) are very...static? Anyway, it comes out in 5 days, and I think that a few reviews should clear up the gameplay style questions I have...

Console? I have a PC and since its coming out for PC I figure its quite possible to have two threads about it right? PC versions usually stand out to the console ones as they are moddable.

Reminds me of spiderman: Web of Shadows. With more powers....many more.

Graphics are bad, well for me anyway but then I saw the city. They modelled all of New York for you to jump around in and so this is why it cannot be better graphically. Really cool game with freerange missions to do, evolution points to upgrade your abilities and you can transform into anyone, as long as you consumed them firs.t

Very playable and also very one of a kind.

How is this ruining the game?

Anyway, it reminds me a lot of Spiderman: Web of Shadows. With more powers. And a red sky.

I climbed the empire state building and the soon to be world trade tower. Its not built yet.

I got a little bored jumping from roof top to roof top so I grabbed some cops, went way up to the highest tower and threw them down on pedestrians just to see it splat, and boy was it good XD

I got it yesterday and its awesome. I don't have time for a full review right now but calling it mediocre should be crime  :P

I have played web of shadows. The only thing they have in common is mutant powers, Open world, And infection.

As for side quests, There is a ton of them plus little diversions that aren't quite side quests.

The combat is really smooth and theirs a ton of moves. I will however say this si a hardcore players game, The difficulty is high just like in red faction.

Graphics aren't the best but theres a ton of stuff going on at once and no slow down at all. And the gameplay is top notch.

the game (so far) is quite awesome.

so far, playing Prototype is like playing Nemesis (from the RE series) in the middle of the outbreak in Raccoon city.

my personal favorite thing to do right now is sneak up behind officers in charge of the bases, stealthy consume them, and proceed to use the Artillery strikes on the base i just left.

o and god i hate Hunters. every time i kill one, 2 of those little steroid filled freaks bodyslams me like a jock in a middle of a football game...

Got this for the 360 and it runs perfectly and looks great.

I agree with most other posters here that gameplay is sweet. I love air dashing throughout the city or into the ground just to pick up a Web marked man run up a building and violently consume him. Or, better yet, using my whip power to take choppersright out of the sky.

Story wise its ok; I'm on day 10 yet I still feel lost :\

Alright, well, on normal this games impossible.

Thats right. How in the hell are you supposed to defend the bloodtox pump in time square from TWO hunter leaders AND TWO tendrils? Simply put: you cant. You have no time to go out and grab some people to consume because they will just wail on the machine if you do, and if you even bother trying to use a devastator they just beat the crap outa you before you can attack them. Its, impossible, that or ridiculously frustratingly hard.

Yeah, these games from radical are álways on the difficult side. When i play missions i see so many Things which remember me of the hulk ultimate destruction. Especially the difficulty of it all. Man that game was hard as **** too sometimes.
