Spore: General / Creature: Having a Hard Time Impressing
« on: September 09, 2008, 09:26:33 pm »
I know this probably sounds lame to a lot of you, but I just got Spore today, and I'm having a hard time impressing allies in the creature phase. I have my singing up to level 4 and try a variety of charm, dance, sing, etc... on a lot of different creatures, but I fail to impress what seems like 95% of them. I'm on difficulty easy, and I can't understand what's going on. My creatures is probably 50% of the way through the phase, and I don't see how I can advance further without becoming hostile. I'm a herbivore so far, and I haven't fought any of the other species. Please help!

Spore: General / EA Considers Charging for 'Content'
« on: July 31, 2008, 05:39:50 pm »
John Riccitiello, speaking during an investors' conference call, said he is keen to "monetise, if you will, body parts, plant parts, car parts and planets as a way to generate incremental revenue on an installed base of several million active users".

I wonder if they're referring to expansion packs or if they plan to periodically provide options to upgrade the toolkits for a fee. I hope we don't start getting into incompatibility issues of not being able to view certain creatures and planets because you're not a "gold member".

This silly "scrub" I made is the only thing anybody's rated.

This one is simple, but for some reason, it's my favorite.

Spore: General / Error connecting to the SPORE server (SOLVED)
« on: July 09, 2008, 09:34:11 am »
I'd been having this issue from day one of purchasing the full version of the creator editor. Whenever I'd start the game, the registration screen would just have a big gray box and when I tried to register I'd get a message, "There was an error connecting to the SPORE server. Please check your internet connection or try again later". Obviously, this was really annoying, so I searched online a few times a week looking for a solution. Obviously, there are a few things that could cause this: hardware or software firewalls, antivirus-type programs blocking internet access, etc. If you're having this issue, make sure you've ruled all those out first. I explored all those avenues without any success. Finally, I came upon a post on a message board where someone said that switching their network interface card solved the problem. I was highly skeptical if this would solve the problem, but I have two on-board NIC on my motherboard, so I switched my ethernet cable to the other card. I fired up the game and was instantly presented with the registration screen through which I successfully created my account. I have no idea how a specific NIC would prevent the game from allowing you to register, but if you're still having this problem, and particuarly if you're using an Nforce based chipset, give this a shot. It might solve your problem too.

Spore: General / Re: Full CC & Win2K?

I went ahead and installed a copy of XP, and I'm in business. I'm pretty sure that retail Spore + Win2k is a no go just in case anybody is wondering.

I have the trial, and it works fine. I just paid $10 for the full version of the editor, so by whatever means I get it, I don't think it really be piracy. I just need a way to download it without hitting the EA download manager.

I went to buy it from the site, and it took me to the EA site. I payed via CC, and it gave me an unlock code and a link to download the EA downloader. I downloaded the EA downloader, and it won't run cause I'm on Win2K. I looked on the pirate bay, and it looks like a UK copy of the full editor and I see people saying things like only 50% of the parts are active. Can someone please provide me a link to the right copy to download or let me know what I should do?

Spore: General / Full CC & Win2K?

Anybody know how I can get a copy of the full CC with Windows 2000? The EA download manager tells me I need Windows XP, which is ridiculous, because just about every XP program under the sun has no problem running on Win2K. Can I download a copy on a friend's XP machine and then copy it to my PC? What about serial #'s and all that jazz? Thanks!

Spore: General / Re: Is there a limit to how many creatures per planet?
« on: February 22, 2008, 09:25:26 am »
There is a limit to the number of cities (12 I think), which I'm guessing can contain a finite number of creatures, so I'd imagine the limit would be max cities X max creatures per city. Of course, this doesn't take into account creatures that are just roaming around, so honestly, I don't know.

Spore: General / "Less than 1% of what we could possibly do"
« on: February 19, 2008, 06:38:17 am »
Here's a brief article with Spore's producer, Thomas Vu, where he briefly mentions "making the rest of it at some point", and says they've done 1% of what they can possibly do with Spore. At the end he even says Maxis has already started working on new ideas and prototypes of that content. As long as the initial launch is a success, I'd imagine expansions are pretty much guaranteed.

Spore: General / Interview with Spore's Lead Designer

Hey guys, I'm hoping this isn't a duplicate post. Sorry if it is. Here's an interview with Spore's lead designer done by an MTV blogger posted yesterday.

Did anybody notice when Will said there would be an "epic quest" to take you to the center of the universe? That sounds like a blast and eludes to the possibility of more directed gameplay beyond the endgame sandbox we've been hearing about for so long. I wonder if there will be other features to direct your civilizations through story oriented content...

If there's one thing I learned from my short stint in the stock market, it's that economic analysts can and often are wrong. Basing a release date on fiscal performance is just about as meaningful as any other wildly speculative theory.

Spore: General / Re: Had a Nightmare About Spore
« on: January 28, 2008, 06:57:49 am »
Sorry about this being late and everything...but you had a nightmare because your wife asked you to massage her foot?

And woke up in a cold sweat? I the only one thinking that's verging on the very weird?

Ok, so waking up in a cold sweat was an "exaggeration" and I guess it doesn't really qualify as a nightmare. The whole point of this thread was that I almost got to play spore "in a dream" but didn't because of numerous distractions. Sorry for being "weird"... I guess that's the price you pay for trying to be funny on the internet.
