I would like to recommend google video for the GDC 2005 videos.  I think that it runs better and loads a little faster.

True, it loads and runs better because it's lower res.  Definitly worth noting to the (sad) dial up users that we'll have.

A mod could actually sticky it and then we can post the link to it when people ask stuff answered by these links :)

I'm just trying to reduce it.  Just because its been happening for a while doesn't mean we shouldn't try and prevent it from increasing.

Just so no one is confused, I merged Aquaman's topic with the other one.

Good idea a welcome area for new folkz ;)

I just joined, even tho' i've known about spore for quite some time now, like way back when folks were asking Will about his next project after SimCity 4, and he was saying something vauge like 'SimEverything' as kinda a joke to keep folks from asking too much about his next project.

Little did he know or we knew, that in actuality that was going to be his next project after all, kinda, sorta, allmost.

He could of been more vague and said....

I just noticed my thingy over dere says Pong Paddle, what's weird is i'm old enough to rememer PONG. I guess 40 years of pop-culture does that after awhile ;)

Guess the whole reason i'm still kicking on this rock is to await the 2nd coming.... or for SPORE, possibly both.... who knows ?

I think it'll be interesting to see what kind of critters i'll dream up useing Spore as i've been imagineing all kinds of things from as far back as I can remember, my imagination is still pretty much been 'out there' from like the start of the 1970's when I was a mere cub, only said as if you've seen my apartment you'd think it was a cave of some kind, heh heh heh heh, and the fact i've been playing a wolf online pretty much when I started being online, as a way to hide / protect my identity from who knows what.

If it's good enough for Billy Bob Gates, it's good enough for me to not use my real name online ;)

Of couse back in the day when I got online there wasn't all these worries over ID thieft & whatnot, so in a way I was thinking ahead by going under a alternate ID, however it should be noted that because of this my charater has gotten offers to get Credit Cards with his name on them in e-mails....

I think that it's kinda funny that an imaginary character can get a credit card easyer then a real person can, it says a lot about the credit card system, doesn't it ? Lord knows i'll never get one if they are going ot offer one to someone who only is bits & bytes on the internet, eh ? Don't really trust a system that's set up like that.

Anyhow, hopefully today we can peek into E3 this weekend from Real Player or whatever they'er useing for the webcast and get a look at EA's booth & Spore, just so the wait won't be as LONG as it is, Spring 2007 seems like a lifetime away, or at least 5 The Sims 2 Expantion Packs away, heh heh heh heh heh

I hope we'll find out if there are TOWELS in Spore.

Towels are incredibly useful as you may know ;)

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I like the UI, looks verry simple, simple is good !
K.I.S.S. is being followed to the letter if that's the final UI for the game, sometimes the best rules are the old ones, and K.I.S.S, is one of the oldest programing rules there is.
If only M$ would follow that rule when it comes to thier OS ;)
<Yoda> Me likey interface much indeed.... </Yoda>
It's also nice to see everything clearly, the old video was nice, but everything was rather blurry, didn't really give you a feel of how it'd look on a regular PC, due in fact to it was what, a 3rd generation video file or someshuch ?

Title: Re: Warm Welcome for the Newbies
Post by: Cytra on May 11, 2006, 10:33:24 am
I find its great that you have a warm welcome thread for the noobs but I have two comments...

Under Spore websites, one of the lists... it should link to the spore community fansites thread no?  The list is rather biased.

Also, when I see this thread I think to myself... how warm is the welcome really when noobs who post to the forum rudely get told to read the stickies?  Or are you only accepting Spore obsessed people into your circle?  Usually stickies are general rules of conduct, and you can't really tell from this forum's front page which threads are stickied.. unless you pay careful attention to the date.  Call me noob, but at least I'm not rude.

I guess you figured out by this post that some comments offended me yesterday, and I'm not even all the noob.  I am a fan of freedom of speech but I think some people here have gone over the line of deciding who is free to speak or not.  Thank goodness some of these people aren't moderators because we'd probably only see his/her clique's threads because s/he approves.

Oh well, I guess I'm really not that active poster anyway. Or maybe I just have a life. Wait a minute... *going through notebooks* "Ah, there it is!"
Yesterday I spent the whole day reading Formula 1 forums. A day before yesterday I... What day was it? Oh yes, Monday. On Monday I used Artpad all day long. On Sunday I watched Formula 1, it was a very boring race indeed, and on Saturday I had to clean up the house a bit. And the whole last week from Monday to Friday I played The Sims 2...

Hey, I'm new. I found out about spore about a week ago and I've been busy reading articles/forums and whatching all the videos on it, so now I feel like I'm pretty up to date. I even expanded a stub article on SporeWiki: http://www.sporewiki.com/Asteroid_bases and I was wondering what you thought about the format and my ideas. I'm hoping to help out on spore wiki by expanding small articles and cleaning stuff up.

New here too.  Unfortunately reliving my typical 'role' if you will.  Just found out about Spore recently (through the VGCats http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=201 comic) so I'm way too late to contribute anything interesting, and the release is too far away for useful speculation.  I'll probably hang out here a few days making and reading useless posts then forget about it until something reminds me... or the game is released.

Anyway...  Hello!

P.S. skunk named Christian (Chris for short), not a Christian skunk.

Hello, I am Michael Lizord. (Sounded Lie Zord). I am located in Jolly Old England. I have worked for various game companies such as Lionhead, Bungie, Bullfrog, and now I am currently with EA UK. Sadly, I am not in the Spore/Maxis department so I cannot really tell you anything that you dont know. Hehe. I am here however not only to discuss Spore, but a few days ago we recieved notification of a "Conspiracy Theory". It actually caused quite a colourful discussion, stuff mostly over the water cooler. Anyways, a lot of people have discussed it, some believe it, some don't. There is a some truth in it, EA does lie about some release dates and they do cover up a lot of things. They have been known to get in contact with forum goers to see if they are indeed employees. But that is off the point, I am here just to see some of the various discussions.

Thanks

nah, it's crumpets that we Brits love, and warm ale.... yum! (actually ale has the exact same taste as when you throw up, I have no idea why people drink the foul stuff!)

I had to explain to someone what crumpets are once... it was really quite difficult.

Well, yes, I'd have to agree. If you're going to make the effort to get a headache, you may as well use something that's worth the bother. I've never really been an alcohol person, though, I don't like the taste of most alcohol (there are, of course, exceptions) and I'm a boring drunk. I just get tired and find a warm corner to sleep in.

I remember once a few hundred years ago. Top of the Pops went nuts over this song called "Cookie", all it was was sum guy body painted with the american flag saying things in a robot voice like

I want my cookie and I want it bad.
I want my cookie or I will be sad.
I want my cookie even on a cow.
I want my cookie and I want it now

It was lame. It wasnt even remotely musical.

In the defence of people who do that (of which I am not one...the Aussie yobbo stereotype out there is enough for me to worry about) there is the iconic symbols we have of brittain; I present for your scrutiny the movie Narnia (and its even worse in the books), the novels of harry potter and Sam from LOTR.

There is tons of spore information on this forum, be sure you check out all the stickies at the top. Our members have worked hard to keep Spore information compiled in very organized posts. I think the Omnibus might be the most current at this time.

I'm reviving this topic since we have so many new people and older members returning. If you haven't been here in awhile, please take some time to look at the rules and guidelines, important spore threads and do a search for your specific questions. It's quite possible that it's already been posted.

Here are a few tips to make things run smooth for all of us:

1. No animated signatures. Signatures can only contain one picture and it can't be larger than 700 pixels wide and 120 pixels tall. If you pot a bigger one, you will be asked to change it.

2. Avatars can be animated but the size should be no larger than 100x100 and in good taste.

3. The forum is family friendly, no cussing, trolling, flaming, no posting of photos or videos that contain any words that cannot be posted. (like the F word and yes it happens)

4. We would prefer that you use a thread already made to continue a topic than make a new one. It keeps all the information in one place and saves us a bunch of merging.

5. Please be respectful and kind to others especially new members. If you have a problem, use the "report to moderator" button.

If you have any questions, please post them. The moderators here are friendly and helpful but we don't put up with trouble. If you come to cause trouble you won't last long. Feel free to pm us with any concerns or questions.

Thats it! Have fun!  :)
