Title: Who owns the world?
Post by: Sub on January 23, 2008, 08:40:02 am
Oh, that's right, we do. (http://chomsky.info/articles/20080101.htm)

Really a great article by Noam Chomsky.  Worth a read.

To answer that question: Me, of course.

As for that article:
I didn't read that stuff because you didn't provide a proper abstract.

Yeah I siding with GrapeFruit over here, lowering the reading standard by giving us a summary of the article would have been nice....or a proper abstract. (whatever the hell that means :P, or maybe that's the same thing idk.)

That's... pretty damn lazy, considering that it's only reading - in a large, easy to read font, at that.

It's Noam Chomsky pointing out the fact that governments are always oblivious to the fact that they might be the problem.

An abstract is a brief summary of the whole article/report/thesis, without giving any results or interpretations.
You do that for the reader so they can decide wheter the paper in question is of any use/interest for them or not, thus saving their time.

A majority of all reports (in engineering, that is, I guess it more or less also applies to other fields) are never read further than the abstract (except by the author of course), making this part of the report a very important one.

So...I'm not exactly lazy (well...I am, but that's another story) if I ask for an abstract. I actually scrolled over the article and thought it is too much to get into and risk wasting my time for something I don't find interesting. (Disclaimer: I do not say that the article is bad (IMO), but it might be. I just don't know it yet)
