Heh.  You're most welcome.  ;D  It's funny that I originally learned about asymmetry from someone who posted a guide here on Gaming Steve - Thanren - though I don't know if this players goes by the same name here.

I'm now trying to figure out how to do asymmetric hands, feet, and limbs.  GrandPeep apparently got it to work with this creature:

There's a hidden singular limb for the eye we see on the left.  If you take away the limb supporting the eye we see on the right, you'll find it.

Actually, I'm Thanren.  There was a bit of a mixup with my registration under my normal moniker (EA refusing to send my the account confirmation email), so I couldn't use that account.

Since the asymmetry bug did not work on limbs i was stuck making this symmetrical. :/

Yeah, it's a real shame.  As is, the only asymmetrical thing you can make that effects animation is a mouth...

The game is very simplified. Physics don't seem to play any role.
There is no weight, no collisions, no calculations, no resistances, (no physics at all)

Size has some influence on jumping... or at least, my creatures with 5 trial version wings jump to different heights...

I think it's funny that their book on the making of Spore was SIX MONTHS IN THE MAKING.  Six months?  HA!

I would like to see a good, independent book or documentary on the making of Spore.  Something not sanctioned by anyone, not even Will.  Or even a different Maxis game.  There must be all sorts of intriguing stories at Maxis.

Be prepared for

"The making of the making of spore", an informative brochure.

Stats should not stack from the same item. That is wrong.

Everything in the above post is what I should have said in my first post, as all his words are already in my mind too.
Things like this shouldn't be too hard to implement, and would drastically increase the fun of the game.
Yes, I'd like to see a large fox easily beat a small mole with the same "stats", but see a large group of moles beat that one large fox.
I'd like to see a whopping great bulky bear headbutt a mouse with the same charge "stat" and see the mouse come off much worse!
I'd like to see a gorilla thump a creature and do more damage than a chipmunk with the same paws and attack "stat".
The way it is at the moment, just.........isn't right!

I disagree.  Having an invisible size/weight stat will be annoying, and give an unfair advantage to people overcommited to system mastery.  Creature stats should be transparent - no unseen modifers.

I'm pretty sure I could have created the same guide (with the possible exception of screenshots), without actually playing the creator.

Feathers adding to jump? If you didn't know which parts added to what, you'd put that there, but that isn't how the game works.

It's has an extreme lack of information, but hopes nobody will notice because of the pretty pictures.


Reminds me why I don't buy strategy guides... :P

If there is asymmetry, it isn't in the trial version.

It is. I discovered it once by accident, but couldn't reproduce it afterwards. I figured it was probably a bug - I think it had something to do with the arranging of arms.

So, I've been making one creature for a while.  That wasn't enough.

So then I created two creatures at once.  When that proved insufficient I moved onto three.

First things first, put an arm directly on top of your creature.  It should be in the exact center, a single arm.

I'm able to occasionally get a single LEG to appear, but never an arm.  You always get the V-shaped joint stuck to the edge of the body.

I don't know how to split them either.


Adjust the camera so you have a better angle.  If you're facing the creature head-on, put the joint onto the top.  That gives a V shape to the bottom part.  Then grab the elbow joint and move it to the middle of the screen.  It should suddenly switch from having two joints side-by-side to a single branching Y or T joint.  Move the wrist joints a little so it's more like a T than a Y.  The point of this is to expose the elbow joint while you have a part on it.

Grabbing onto the merged elbow joint lets you pull it apart by moving it left or right.

Yeah, I've been getting this for a while.  After making a couple of creatures, I upload one and restart the game, and everything's peachy keen.  If I don't quit before it gets too bad I eventually have to reset my computer to get the game to work (invisible menus are fail.)

Since I've never had this problem, and I keep my drivers up to date, I'm betting that it's a driver problem.

If you guys update your drivers I'm sure it will go away.
Well, given that my drivers and DirectX are up to date (or were last week, at any rate), I can safely rule that out.
