Okay, I'll start by saying that I played 1 and 2 and thought they were awesome, some of the best games ever.  If I get this game, I will not consider it to be a part of the same series, I'll just judge it on it's own merits because there is no way it will measure up to those classics.

That said, I have a question.  I thought this game was set in a post-apocalyptic future where most of the world was nuked, so why was Washington D.C. not completely reduced to glass and ashes?  Seems to me like it should be a fairly high-profile target.

I always wondered why they sent in ground pounders instead of just nuking the bejesus out of the planet from orbit, are they hoping to recover whatever resources could be found on that (if memory serves) desert world?  If they're one and only objective is to kill the bugs, why don't they just nuke the whole planet?

Just thought I'd say the demo has been released.  It's single player only, you can only play as the TEC, the only map sizes available are small and medium, and you can only play it for 90 minutes.

I would tend to think that 90 minutes might not be enough, but one of the devs said on their forums that if you don't like it after 90 minutes you probably never will.

I suggest that if anyone was on the fence about the game they should give this a try.

i re played the coop missions in SCCT a hundred times and they where fairly small

Not to go off topic but I wish I could find someone to play those missions with who a) wanted to play the game and b) was at least okay at it.  I had to force one of my friends to try it and what invariably ended up happening every time was I had to babysit him and then we'd find a door and kill each other by slamming it open.

Back on topic, I'm not sure if I'll buy this yet, I don't have any friends who could play it with me unless we play on a LAN.  But if the single player is good enough, or if you guys set up a Gaming Steve server, i might buy it.  I have to admit, if there was a multiplayer-centric game that I would consider buying, it's this one.

Maybe Escape Velocity?

Was the only one that's 2d that I could think of.

I really hate to necro this thread...

I don't think it's considered necroing if the thread is still on the front page.

As for what the low res game looks like, the bit-tech review has a good comparison.  And quite frankly if your computer is from the past 5 years or so it will run fine.

Hey, just got this game, it is addicting.  I didn't even play the demo cause i wanted the OB soundtrack and figured it was worth the $10 alone, and good lord am I getting my money's worth out of this thing!

My username is Morslok, and don't expect high scores, I'm just playing for fun, not competition (which is true of most games I play).

BTW, it turns out most of the songs I like to listen to, even the ones I thought were subdued, are surprisingly energetic on this game.

...pirates (organized pirates and very very powerful pirates)...

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to seeing how that bounty system works out, sounds like an awesome concept, something where you can actually just throw money at it without wasting your own ships.

Some of the devs on the forums have said that it would actually pain them to play the game as it was in the betas compared to it's current incarnation.

Also, lets not forget the game will retail for 40 bucks, I'm sure that will help pirates convert.

The system requirements aren't that much really, this is from the faq on their site:

Q.  What are the hardware requirements?
A.  The Iron Engine takes advantage of the latest machines and scales to support older hardware as well.

Minimum Requirements:

    * Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista
    * 1.8 GHz Single-Core Processor
    * 512 MB RAM (1 GB for Windows Vista)
    * 128 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon 9600 / GeForce FX 6600 and above)
    * DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
    * DVD-ROM Drive
    * 3 GB Hard Drive Space
    * Keyboard and Mouse
    * DirectX 9.0c

Recommended Requirements:

    * 2.2 GHz Dual- or Quad-Core Processor
    * 1 GB RAM (2 GB for Windows Vista)
    * 256 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon X1600 / GeForce 7600 and above)

And I also saw on their forums that these minimum requirements are actually true, the game will run with decent framerate on the minimum system (unlike some other recent games whose requirements were actually higher than what they printed on the box and the minimum system wouldn't even run it.)

Anyone else looking forward to playing this game?  I probably won't get it right away, I'm low on cash, but so far it seems like my kind of game.

It's a sci-fi space RTS that incorporates empire management stuff like a turn based 4x game from what I can gather.

When I first heard about it my initial reaction was not very excited.  But recently after I had been trolling around galciv2.com for a while I stumbled on it again and actually learned some stuff about it, and became intrigued.  Funny, that's the same thing that happened when I first heard of stalker.  I went "meh" then learned more about it and went "oooo".

Anyway it comes out in a few days (Feb 4th I believe) and I was wondering what other people thought of it.

Well, I got this game, it's pretty fun.  It'll probably get some mileage from my ds.  Don't know if I'm gonna play online, I'm not a competitive sort of person (read: I suck), but I'll put my code here anyway.

The final act is to remove the bar, leaving only a circle that can be clicked.

Or, maybe, rather than remove the bar, the circle is removed.  The bar, without any input from the user, simply keeps... on... progressing...

Oh wait, that's Progress Quest!
