Spore: General / Re: Spore set to be the most pirated game ever.
« on: September 17, 2008, 11:36:20 am »
This is not true.
Crysis was pirated in 20:1 ratio (pirate:original).   Unreal Tournament III had 40 million pirate accounts. (google it!)

Spore, with its 500 000 pirated copies, and 600 000 LEGALLY registered originals, is one of the LEAST pirated games.

This is just anti-DRM propaganda from the protesters, who want to see Spore fail ironically, so they took these acceptable numbers, and turned them into  an ironical failure.

I was totally agressive, but Space is perfect for me.

I spent ~10 hours in space, but I didn't even meet pirates yet, and there is only one agressive enemy race.

Please, they spent the last year with finetuning the game, it was in beta since that. I even remember WW saying that they are testing it with Sims players too, to make it more accessible.

Of course no game is perfect, even traditional RTS, and TPS, RPG, and SIM games have flaws like this, and Spore is trying to be a little bit of all of them.

We knew this would happen from the very beginning, so why is everyone like OMFG WTF DUMB CREATIONISTS at something they knew was happening. Have you ever considered that this guy is a troll, and doesn't actualy belive a word he says? If so, you all just got trolled.

Yes, I believe that.

It is a self-fulfilling prophecy, just like penis creatures. We were all sure that they will come, so some of the fans actually started to "recreate the legendary penis creature", believing that it is already an already existing popular internet meme. This led to a series of news articles about spornography, that made it a popular internet meme.

Some of us also created the fictional portrayal of the "fanatical creationist who tries to ban everything about evolution".

Err... Spore appears on the main page of "video games", it is #1 in the bestsellers category, and #3 in overall video games category.

Spammers failed miserably

No, online downloads are not included.

Another way:
There were 1 million accounts before the release (from CC)
Now there is 1 313 454.

I fixed the altitude by using the ingame zoom buttons. changing ship worked :D

how would changing the ship work to fix this? did you forget the comm equipment the first time?
I just added a gun.

Sometimes bugs are caused and solved by random actions.

The blue button is pulsing, but you can't open the com screen?

Try to edit your spaceship design. Worked for me.

Rather than post screenshots of graphical features that were clearly going to be improved 3 years on, why not explain to me how the game mechanics haven't been dumbed down by the examples I gave?
Done several times:

Features that were added after the original presentation:
-The outfit editor
-The music editor
-The UFO editor
-The terrain editing tools (creating hills, rivers, oceans)
-The procedurally generated music
-The ability to reach any creator or phase from the menu
-The ability to make Religion-based civilizations
-The ability to chose your home planet
-The ability to play in a non-hostile way (singing, dancing, making friends)
-The more detailed civilization phase gameplay (controlling spice nodes, harvesters, military/economic/ religious vehicles)
-The extreme planet types (like lava planets, ice planets, and even colorful, never-seen world)
-The various creature phase options such as splitting, hunting in pack, etc.
-The Creature differences like baby, and alpha creatures

Features that were cut out since that:
- Underwater creatures
- Blood

2005! Not 2006! How is it possible that these trolls always claim to be huge fans, but they can't even remember, what year Spore was announced in?

BTW, from the "realistic" video:

From current Spore:

Would you like to know how it works? Since I did it? ;)

In the Sporepedia you select the tab that says "buddy". You type your buddy name in the box and press enter. Then a list of possible names comes up. You select from the list and then "add". I didn't play with the sporecast so not sure about that.
So, a Sporecast is just the collection of all creatures that one uploaded?

I always thought Sporecasts and buddy lists are two different things.

There was even a screenshot that said "Earthly Creatures Sporecast"

I would say gamingsteve members, but honestly, most people here are avarage.

I will probably choose some talented creators from the 'pedia.

BTW, if I understood it correctly, Sporecasts can be made by a mix if creators, for example I can put every robot creature that I see, in my own Sporecast.

If this is true, I will download some Sporecasts that feature colorful creatures, like those what WW showed on the E3 slideshow right after vehicle creatures.
