PC Games / Star Wars: Empire at War - Medieval or Rome?
« on: January 31, 2006, 10:38:48 am »
I'm currently downloading the Star Wars: EAW demo, and was wondering what others here thought of the game, and their experience of it from having played it.  It sounds cool, but after the debacle of Rome Total War i don't know what to think of these types of games.  Will it be brilliant like Medieval Total War, or a shambles which fails to show it's promise like Rome?  Should i just stick with trusty old Civ IV?  What's so special about this game that i ought to get it?  Fire away if you love it/think you'll love it, and fire away if you think you'll hate it - i'm just curious.  Thanks!

Everything Else / World of Warcraft: "Internet is for Porn?!" *funny video*
« on: December 27, 2005, 12:50:38 pm »
Just had to share this hilarious video with everyone - this is a song put into the context of World of Warcraft characters... it's had me laughing for ages.  Many have probably already seen it, but whatever, for those who haven't:

I've signed up for the beta, and the game looks interesting i think.  Here is the website to view information on it:

When/if i hopefully get into the beta i'll air my views on it.  What are everyone elses?

Movies / The Legend of Zorro
« on: August 11, 2005, 12:44:07 pm »

Link to the trailor on the Sony Pictures website there.  I really liked the prequel, did anyone else see it?  This has the same cast for the main two characters, which is good because most sequels who don't retain their main cast members usually suck.  I'm not too impressed by the trailor... too many explosions for my liking... but i'll probably go and see it anyway.  Thoughts?

Movies / Your favourite movie character?
« on: July 27, 2005, 06:17:23 am »
With the video game character/weapon threads going on, i'm interested to hear what everyone's favourite movie characters are.  Mine are probably:

Darth Vader (original Star Wars, not Hayden Christensen).

Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean - genious acting by Johnny Depp, he's hilarious in this film.

Tyler Durden - Brad Pitt is excellent in this, as is Norton, but i feel that Pitt's character just beats Norton's.

That's all i can think of for now.  Yours?

PC Games / Civilization IV and expansions
« on: July 21, 2005, 09:25:01 am »
This is a game i have been looking forward to for a while.  It looks very promising.  Thought i would start a topic on it and see whether other people are as excited as myself about it.

Just found out from a friend of mine who was in a meeting with Dyson representatives, that Dyson (the vacuum cleaner company) are planning to release revolutionary "hand dryers" for public use.  One puts their wet hands into the dryer and then it literally blows and "sucks" the water off of your hands - you take them out of the dryer and your hands will feel completely clean.

It feels very soft, as if you used hand moisturiser - because it also sucks up the oil from your hands, making them feel very soft.  This seems like an intriguing idea.  What are your opinions?  More information when i get it.

Console Games / Xbox 360... or the Playstation 3?
« on: April 16, 2005, 03:47:43 pm »
I, as you all know, am a PC man - i like PC games, generally dislike consoles and am even extremely pessimistic about most PC games.  However, one game which i did love was Halo - and although yeah you can get it on the PC, you cannot get Halo 2... yet.  The Xbox has other such games which also potentially take my fancy, and which i would play often.

When i was very young i used to love consoles - my SEGAs, my Playstation 1, my Dreamcast... but i never really got into all the PS2 malarky.  I would buy an Xbox - simply because it has a number of games which i would buy and play extensively on it, however what's the point with the Xbox 360 coming up in the next 2 years or so?  Maybe earlier.

I was wondering what people's opinions were.  If i was to buy my first console for years, which one does one recommend?  And why?  Cheers everyone.

Everything Else / Hilarious Mime Routine
« on: March 28, 2005, 05:43:36 am »
I just saw this clip of a mimer doing this fantastic routine to a Natalie Imbruglia(sp?) song... the more you watch it, the funnier it gets.  This guy is a genius!

Books / I dislike authors who live off their hits.
« on: March 22, 2005, 08:33:09 am »
Just would like to rant for a bit - I'm in a bad mood.

I dislike authors who live off their hit novels/series.  For example, take Agatha Christie and Terry Pratchett.  Agatha Christie is a very poor author who wrote countless books about the ridiculous Inspector Poirot, and they were ALL the same.  Rich people murdering each other, and Poirot comes up with an ingenious way of figuring out who did it.  Great, that's cool for the first book... but after you write another 50?  What a pleb... I can't believe the idiots who read these "stories".

She wrote about NOTHING else, and yet she is considered a great author.  Why?  The stories are predictable, the writing is poor (I've written better stuff than her - and I'm not joking) and she wrote a truckload of them.  And then you get the other authors who copy her style and write similar books, who recieve equally critical acclaim... and then you get the parody artists who decide it would be funny to parody her stuff, and to make "funny" plays/spoofs/books on it.  Get this, it's NOT funny - ever.  Stop writing and get a job in a supermarket to let real authors get on with their work and recieve the acclaim they deserve.

Okay... that's the witch Agatha Christie done (Oh how I hate her...), time for award winning kiddie's novelist Terry Pratchett.  Now I picked up one of his "amazing" little fantasy books one day, because I was bored and had read all the real books that I had available in the place I was, and was shocked.  Not only is his writing poor, but he has like whole library sections dedicated to his books which all seem the same.  I shortly stopped reading that book, but have picked up bits and pieces about his "novels" from people.

They go on about these stupid creatures and say how funny they are, telling me to "read it or I won't see the funny side".  Maybe it's funny for kids... but please stop forcing this illiterate nonsense on me.  Why does this imbecilic bumpkin get so much acclaim for his stupid "Discworld" series which spans about a thousand books about stupid animals which he's made up?  Why does everybody love him?  He's earned millions by re-writing his stupid stories much like Agatha Christie I presume, and is living an easy life.  Doesn't anyone get jealous and feel spite towards this?

Personally I think that there should be a "Lazy a**hole's" section in libraries so that I don't have to forage through rows of Terry Pratchett and Agatha Christie's crap to get to some real literature.

Well that's about it.  I think we can affirm that I hate authors who live off their stupid novels which are just repeats of themselves, as well as Keanu Reeves and Vin Diesal.  Wow, feels great to get that off my chest...

Spore: Creation Corner / Your first creature?
« on: March 19, 2005, 03:00:47 am »
The title says it all.  I know there is the "Ultimate Creature" thread, but it is not actually asking you what YOUR creature will look like (or what ideas you have for it).  Just out of curiosity, tell everyone here, and what sort of architechture you will use for your cities would be interesting too.

One idea of mine for example, is to have a creature which is (for the most part) humanoid, but holds traits of other creatures.  The idea is to have a very tall, possibly 7-8 foot tall creature with a back that is slightly hunched forward, so that it runs with a sort of loping motion.  It will be quite thin, yet strong due to it's size, and will also have sharp claws on the tips of it's "hands".
I intend to make these creatures quite intelligent too, so they will live in the same style as they themselves look - massive, thin, brooding buildings that dominate the surroundings, making their cities look forboding and "dark".

Another idea of mine was to have giant cat creatures, with lots of tails, and have them live in furry buildings (i just think it would be funny).  Will probably create them as my second race though in a second game after i make my janocytes (the tall humanoid creatures i described).

Well... that's me, what about you?
