Aloof snort.

Not quite, but I was first week. It was cool to actually get a response letter from my senator.

Everything Else / Re: Religion
« on: April 19, 2006, 10:21:24 am »
I'm a relativistic evolutionist. And I share many principles with the Buddhist philosophy -- yes, the philosophy-only one in which Buddha said he wasn't a damn messiah or inspired by divinity -- so that may explain a bit about my point of view. And I don't care what anyone else believes in; that's their business. The only thing I find really frustrating with people that are religious is that so many of them come off as judgmental and arrogant, which is ironic since most religions speak quite highly of being the exact opposite.

As for the connection between wars and religion: I think some of you are simplifying this a bit. Are wars fought explicitly over religion? Not often. It's usually for some political reason behind the scenes. But what you need to keep in mind is that religion is used to spur forward their people into warfare. Which means that even if the actual reason for the war isn't religion, it is about religion for many of the people going out there and slaughtering others. People would be less willing to go to war if they knew it were merely about acquiring more land or prestige for their ruler, but when they're doing it for the "[insert divine entity here]-blessed people of [insert name of country here] against the heathen horde of [insert opposing country or people's name here]," they're far more willing to end someone else's life.

I share the exact beliefs. Although you can tack on a little bit of Toaism and some Paganism on there and then you have me.

Another show would be monster rancher I mean they never showed the serise finale

I would agree. I play the games all the time, and I was extremely excited for the show. It was pretty good too, but they did cut out at a most inconvieniant moment.

Movies / Re: The WORST movies you have ever seen.

As far as horrible B-Movies go, Dark Star is the worst. It is slow, low-budget, one the wierdest endings ever, and it has only one alien in it...who is made out of a balloon...and it pops.

Not saying I don't own it for B-movie nights, but it's still up there in horribleness.

Yes you should.

Um...a little late there.

No it's not. I just chose not read the rest of the posts and answer his question directly. Done and done.

Yes it is. Had you read the other posts, you would have seen that he got a GameCube a while ago.

Not to mention you probably should have mentioned why he should get one rather than just "yes".

I know pilot, I just felt like being an ass. I've already participated in another "should I buy a GC" thread, so I never opened this one. I just saw the title everyday and just decided to answer his question. It was all just a joking post. I do know how a forum runs, and I always read the other posts when making a serious post. But this one wasn't, and I didn't feel like reading all the posts. I knew he would've got one, we would never let anyone get away without a GC.

Especially with Zelda just around the corner...if you call fall around the corner.

Everything Else / Re: It's Good Friday everyone!

Well, technically Easter is the celebration of the fertility, not the resurrection. But who's nit picking.

I will. Easter is still the celebration of the death and resurrection of Christ. The fact that it happens to be in Spring at the same time as old pagan festivals doesn't change that. The pagan festival is not "Easter", that's the term for the Christian part of the day (and the period leading up to the day).

Quote
Nailing to the cross was unique? No, the Romans crucified everyone at the time. The people next to Jesus weren't big-time mob-bosses, they were lowly crooks. There were most likely dozens of other crucifixions that day.

No doubt. Crucifixion was a very common punishment in Roman times. However, no-one else is claimed to have gotten up and walked around 3 days afterwards; I think that's what he was on about.

Quote
For anyone who doesn't know, when those nice Christians invaded England they stole the pagan holidays and claimed them as their own...so fertility...thus the rabbit. Unless people think the rabbit was there at the crucifixion, or maybe the brown of the chocolate symbolizes the brown of the wood on the cross?
lol It's all true, but no one cares anymore. Pagans and Christians still have the same holidays (Easter, Christmas), gotta love it.

Actually, early church leaders picked those days not because they were already festivals, though it was more likely that people wouldn't be too bothered, but because it was close to Passover. The fact that we have eggs and things is nothing to do with the Easter story, but it is just a hang-over from Pagan times, not "Easter" at all. It's not the same holiday, just on the same day. People who have eggs and rabbits and whatever else aren't celebrating Easter, just Spring. They only happen to celebrate it on the same day, because it's easier and for some reason people conflate the two holidays.

Easter is closer to the Jewish festival of Passover than anything else. The name refers to the month Eostremonat, or April.

Similarly with Christmas - that was picked to co-incide with another festival but remains largely Christian. Add ons to Christmas (for example, good old Saint Nick and the Christmas tree) come after Christianity was introduced.

Edit: Oops, forgot the Passover bit.

Good times Daxx. I know all that. I was raised Christian for years, not to mention Jewish. I do miss the Passover dinners.

And in no way was I trying to piss you off or anything, just talking cuz it's Monday and I'm bored. Don't take any offense, as there was none to be taken.

So...Malaria...that must suck.

My upgraded computer looks like this:
Intel D945GTP board with built-in 8-channel (7.1) audio subsystem, 8 2.0USB ports, and a Gigabit LAN subsystem
Pentium D 2.8ghz 800mhz FSB 2x1MB L2 cache
ATI X800XL PCI-Express 256mb
1GB DDR2 667 240-pin RAM
SoundBlaster Audigy 5.1
Creative Labs 5.1 surround speakers
And I still have my old case with it's 7 casefans, temp and fan control, and easy access USB ports on top.

Will be upgraded to 1.5Ghz of RAM soon, and possibly a flat-screen moniter. Currently running on a 19".

If women ruled the world... it would be more child and family friendly.
And less wars.
In my signature I had "If women ruled the world, there'd be nuclear war every 28 days" for a while.

Another reason VFX will never have a girlfriend.
