Spore: General / Re: Badges in no time! (Video Tutorial)
« on: November 16, 2008, 12:03:53 pm »
Not going to say that this is pointless, but...

There are already Trainers that can instantly unlock any of the badges for you, if you want to cheat.
And it doesn't involve any variable searching.

That said, it's good to see that you're still thinking up new stuff to do.

Without complaints, how would anyone know they are doing something wrong? It can't always be praises.

Yeah, but you really shouldn't defecate on their efforts and say they should burn and die. It took them years to develop this game. Gameplay and content had to wait. ;)

I understand you have an opinion, too. But you constantly undermine anyone with complaints about Spore, rather than simply just disagreeing. And I can see that coming from someone who doesn't post a lot here, but a person with 5000+ posts AND a moderator to boot... it's just kind of insulting, as if we're not allowed to have complaints.

I'm just disappointed by the fact that you feel that way just because of my post count and status. :(

No, I think you're misunderstanding this.

First, I never said Maxis should burn and die, that was some other dude above who has absolutely no clue what he's talking about.

And second, It's not really about your post count or status, I feel that way because you really do undermine people with your posts, but because of your status, I believe you should find a more constructive way to post your opinions.
I mean the first time you posted about people being more constructive was fine, but then you went on to say that the people criticizing Spore 'hardly have any bright ideas' which really is undermining anyone with complaints in a very demeaning manner.

And for example: You took what someone else said about me thinking Maxis should burn and die, when obviously what I actually said is: While I'm critical of their mistakes, I am always hoping and knowing that they can do better then they have done recently.

The dude who posted about them burning and dying is an idiot, and I think he was probably just reflecting his own attitude towards Maxis onto me... or something.

But we are way off topic here.... Sorry guys.

Madman, you should patch the game.

I believe the pre-patched Spore ("Vanilla Spore" as you call it) had a few memory-leaks which, I believe, were fixed by patch 2.
So since you're playing for a long while patching should stop your crashes and the lag caused by playing too long.

Although, if you're going to take a break, like for eating, it'd just be better to save and close Spore anyways.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Take it easy.

I merely pointed out a way to channel your opinion on Spore. Who's acting like the jerk here?

I'm expressing my opinion as a fellow member, mods are free to have them too. I'm not here to put any ban hammers on anyone.

Don't worry, I am not really going to "report you." I know you wouldn't go around banning people you don't like (otherwise I'd probably be banned already).

Like your post earlier "well I hardly hear any bright ideas from these guys." It's not like we can help Maxis with their patches... if I could, I DEFINITELY would, And I would make this game awesome in the meanwhile!
I'm a programmer and if I had Spore's source code I really could work on it.
I'm a mean bug-finder and if I could just look at the code, I could help them out. And oh how I wish I could.

But that's not reality. EA and Maxis wouldn't let me touch the game, let alone give me a piece of the code.
All we really have is our complaints so that we can let Maxis know there are definitely problems to work out.

Without complaints, how would anyone know they are doing something wrong? It can't always be praises.

That's all I want you to understand.

Even though I'm constantly criticizing their patches, I'm always hoping that the next one will be great.
I'm just sick of being disappointed.

Are you trying to get yourself whacked with the banstick (or maybe just the trout)?

Although I think you were bieng sarcastic (which as everybody knows, does not transmit well over the internet).

I simply want Gec to act more like a moderator and less like an opinionated jerk.
He is way too judgmental in his posts, and I want him to realize that.

I'm sure Steve wouldn't want him insulting his forum members like that.

And I don't really care what kind of fishsticks Gec throws at me.

Why do you people even bother to post anymore? Your enthusiasm really serves no purpose to the topic since updates can only have so much at a time.

Your complaining really needs to be turned into something constructive. :-\
Yeah, well I hardly hear any bright ideas from these guys. :P

You know what, Gec?
You're right.

I'll start off by being constructive enough to petition Gaming Steve about how you should no longer be a moderator because of your whiny, judgmental, and egotistical attitude in these forums.

Does that work for you? Because it sounds good to me.

Still not getting what you mean by "I want a linear life".  SPORE isn't life.

I just wish there were little pop ups in life to tell me what I need to do to acomplsih my goals. I feel like an ungaided arow ignorant of its target or its shooter. :'(

If you're being serious, I'll tell you again: You need to seek professional help from a psychologist.
That's step #1.

If you're joking, then the joke should have died with your first post.

I'm still not impressed to be honest  :-\

I'm still not buying the Creepy and Cute pack. Its still a rip off, and still not free.

lol... are you serious about this? You have some sort of psychological disorder and I'm not kidding about that. I suggest seeing a psychologist... but on the topic, read below:

Spore was meant to be a game where you do what you WANT to do. But in order to do cool stuff, you need badges, which give you the ability to buy more stuff that gives you the better powers.

So here's a list of what you should do to get the most out of your game.

1. Look at your list of badges. (Bottom left Corner it's the Vault looking symbol)
2. Check the badges you'd think are the easiest to get, and try to get those badges. If the next rank of badge will give you the ability to buy an item, it will say so. Try for those, too.
3.Colonize, terraform, and populate (build 3 full cities with good spice production) on purple and pink spice planets. Use a Spice Storage item on those planets so they will be able to store up to 30 spice. You only need about 3-4 pink and 3-4 purple planets for a good supply of spice.
4. Collect the pink/purple Spice, and find planets that will buy it for $50,000-$80,000 each. You'll make lots of money to buy the things you're earning from the badges.
5. Once you've got the interstellar drive 5, the extreme health storage, the extreme energy storage, and a decent supply of Large Health/Energy Packs (about 50 of each)... it's time to set out for the Center of The Universe.
6. Go Toward the center of the universe, until you meet the Grox. (They will try to contact you when you get close)
7. Decide if you want to ally them, fight them, or ignore them.
8.
If you want to ally: do missions for them, give them money, blow up nearby planets, and other stuff they like.
If you want to fight them: try to set up colonies near them and destroy/terraform their planets in a path towards the Center.
If you want to ignore them: Turn OFF your Auto Blaster, and just continue towards the center of the universe, healing as often as you can. Use the pause button ("~" key) to take breaks.
9. Just have fun and do whatever you want to do with your newfound powers! Or start a new game and do it all over again. Or just quit, because you probably won't want to play anymore.

There you go... a list of things to do for Spore, a supposedly open-ended game.

... Now if Spore weren't so Linear (YEAH, I SAID IT), I'd just have told you to do 1 thing: Have Fun, but it is, so I won't.

I'm not really worried about free arms and legs...

Can they tell us anything about how many glitches this patch is going to fix, and if it's even going to install, unlike the last two?

FREEPARTS?! LIES! This is maxis, for sure it will have a small fee attached to it!

Of course, they will accept the 'small' fee of just your remaining dignity..... oh yeah, and your immortal soul.

Spore: General / Re: Choose starting planet?
« on: November 10, 2008, 02:22:35 am »
I've had species sit at a stage for hours until I put a monolith down, this happened with a group of sapient warthogs that I interacted with in a mission really early on in my first game, I ignored the planet they were on until a few days ago and after several thousand years game time, and 50 hours real time, they hadn't progressed a bit. I've even tried observing un monolithed worlds in the civ phase to the point where 1 city had taken over the rest and they still refused to build their first spaceship until I put a monolith down. I haven't had occurrences where the planets advanced themselves but I have had the game implant tribe level species on T1 planets with only one species of plant on them.

I agree with this.
I've never seen a species advance in all the hours that I've played. Not even once.
You have to use a monolith.

27
I started out my second species by colonizing and terraforming all the nearby pink and purple spice worlds.
They barely have contacted any other species, yet they can already collect a lot of valuable spice.
Wouldn't that require a few million Sporebucks to do?

Besides, what's more realistic, being a new species finding valuable resources on nearby planets, even though other species beat you to space by a few million years... or having the ability to trade a lot of resources with other species?
Once again, realism does not make a good game.

1. What's your point, even if it did? Colonizing and terraforming a planet to T3 actually only cost a few hundred thousand. It'd take a few million to colonize a few different planets, but all at the same time, you're earning a large revenue from those planets.

2. Once again (???) what's your point? What would YOU rather see in SPORE? A slightly realistic simulation of the universe and space-faring, or cartoon universe with googly eyes? I rest my case.

28
If limiting trade routes is a way to prevent easy spice collection, that's just stupid.

If you know what you're doing, you can easily set up maximum spice production in very early stages of the Space game.

I started out my second species by colonizing and terraforming all the nearby pink and purple spice worlds.
They barely have contacted any other species, yet they can already collect a lot of valuable spice.

Besides, what's more realistic, being a new species finding valuable resources on nearby planets, even though other species beat you to space by a few million years... or having the ability to trade a lot of resources with other species?

Anyways, I have no idea if you can raise the amount of trade routes. But to get the badges it seems you need to actually buy the systems you trade with... Most systems can be bought for like 3 million (I think? It is the second lowest bid either way) so it's not very difficult to get the cash to do.

Spore: General / Re: One of the reasons why Spore is "cute" and dumbed down
« on: November 07, 2008, 10:14:52 am »
Good points, but from all the little things left in the code, to me it looks as if they tried to do everything from the beginning rather than focusing on gameplay first.

I think that the game had a lot of potential, and they missed the opportunity to make it a better game by not focusing on what they could get done, rather they didn't seem to focus on anything and explored lots of avenues.

The exploration may have added some cool things to Spore, but I still think with a little concentration on specific areas (the Space Stage) that the game could have been a lot better, fulfilling some of it's potential.
We instead, got a Spore that can't even pass the first hurdle, on any of it's stages.

Also, I've blamed EA since square 1. And yeah, I know without EA's money they wouldn't have been able to even finish Spore.

I may be wrong, they may have had as many people working on the Space phase as they could... but I doubt it.

I understand why they did what they did. I just think they had opportunities to make the game better than it is.

Spore: General / Re: [WIP] DarkDragons Editors Trainer
« on: November 06, 2008, 11:23:33 pm »
I rarely make trainers too, although I have some experience. I haven't found it yet (university tests and L4D demo coming soon so I've been busy) but in case you wanna try again the value is boolean/bit, it's either 1 or 0 but since you can't switch between symmetry and assymetry in-game it's hard to find, I'll keep trying too. Thanks for the help :)

Yeah, I don't think this one is even going to be possible without a professional hacker disassembling the entire Spore program to find it.

Any search for a single bit would result in millions of results, with no way to limit those results down to any reasonable number.
And even still, there are so many unknowns that even if it was a byte or more, it would still be almost impossible to find.

So unless someone stumbles upon a major clue somehow, or disassembles Spore... I don't think the Asymmetry switch is going to be found.

I wish you luck, though. :-X
