Movies / I am Number 4
« on: February 19, 2011, 05:32:38 pm »
Or as I would rename it: I am Really Bored [/snap]

I wasn't expecting much from the movie to begin with, thought there would be some ok action and some cute girls. The movie plays out like the first three episodes of a medi-core superhero tv show. The pacing of it is so slow I thought I was going to die. The plot, get ready for this, is that #4 and the other 9(?) are aliens hiding out on earth, but there are evil aliens hunting them down in numeric order. Why? because the 9 are the only ones that can stop them when they try to take over Earth. Oh and the bad guys have giant mutant flying squires. There's #6, who we see throughout the movie trying to find and meet up with #4 but they only get together at the very end for lame action sequence. Also theres a shapeshifter following #4 around but they never really explain where it came from. Or maybe I was too bored to care anymore?

I'm just rambling now, but I highly recommend avoiding this movie unless a cute girl you know wants to see it (that's how I got suckered into it) or wait until it shows up on netflix.

The worst part it set itself up to be a trilogy. barf

I really liked this move. Jeff Bridges is great, the other characters are fantastic, and it's under 2 hours. I highly recommend this to people who don't mind grit.

« on: August 26, 2010, 09:03:28 am »
It's a TV show about a zombie apocalypse, based on the graphic comic series of the same name.

Trailer (I couldn't find a good youtube one)

Man those zombies look good. It starts off a lot like 28 Days Later, but the beginning is the only thing they have in common, well that and zombies :P.

It Airs on AMC, starting Oct. 31. Anyone else looking forward to this?

Saw Inception last light. I liked it. It starts off a little rough because they throw a lot of stuff at you, but once things get going, it's get good. It's defiantly the kind of movie you need to see a couple times if you want to grasp everything. Lot of stuff going on.

Console Games / Zelda : Skyward Sword

In before pat? He must be solving a mystery.

Quick link: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/the-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword-revealed-and-detailed/

New Zelda game has been announced, coming next year, and will be using Wii Motion Plus. They were having some issues with demo during the press conference, felt bad for them, but it looks like a Zelda game. Anyone super excited about this? I'm kinda meh on it, but then again I haven't touched my wii for over a year now so that could be just me. The new whip, and flying bug thing look neat, but it just seems more of the same. I'm sure it will be still be fun.

What are your thoughts?

Books / e-Readers
« on: May 21, 2010, 06:39:01 am »
I just picked up a kindle and was surprised there wasn't a topic on e-readers so here we go.

I picked up Kindle because I've red about 1 1/2 books in the last 6 years, and wanted to start reading again. I thought a nice piece of tech would make me feel fancy and I would keep up on the reading. So far I love it. E-ink is pretty nifty and easy on the eyes. I can hold it and turn pages with only one hand, lazy-ness FTW. Able to download books from anywhere is the radest. Can download the first chapter of a book for free. $250 is a little more then I would have liked to have spent, but oh well I'm reading regularly again so I'm happy.

Thoughts on other E-readers:

ipad - It's too big and awkward for reading and not great battery life. Reflective screen would make it impossible to read in sunlight. ipad can do a ton of other stuff but will wait at least until 2nd gen or another pad comes out before considering getting one.

Nook - I played with one a bit. I liked the little color touch screen but I had problems understanding how operate the darn thing. Also it's refresh and load times seemed sluggish. It can play games now!

Sony e-reader - It seemed nice and it has a touch screen, but it has no wireless. Boo wires, especially in this day and age.

Boarders e-reader (forgot it's real name) - It's not out yet but the big thing for it that it's only $150. No wireless, but at that price it's a reasonable sacrifice.

Any one else have an e-reader?

Movies / Clash of the Titans
« on: April 04, 2010, 07:52:43 pm »
I saw this movie in 2D I heard 3D made the movie worse. I didn't like this movie, it was cheesy, my friends and I were laughing at things that were suppose to be serious. I've seen the original CotT and I noticed that they changed some of the story elements from the original, and I found that a bad thing. I don't know the original Greek myth, and the updated version could be more true to the Myth, but the changes they made didn't make sense. For instance, Andramana was the main love interest in the original movie, but in the update it's some other girl, so there is less of a motivation for him to save her life in the end.

This isn't a good movie, rent it if you must.

WOOOO! Tickets for PAX Prime are now on sale, grab them while they're hot. Show runs for Sept. 3rd - 5th, and is usually full of awesomeness. Video Games, Board Games, MtG, PC Free play, Cos-play, lots of talks, concerts and other nerdy stuff. This will be my fifth year going and I can't wait. So who else is going? lol I ask this every year, i already know the answer

Console Games / Heavy Rain
« on: February 25, 2010, 06:46:06 pm »
Anyone else grab this yet?

I got Heavy Rain on Tuesday and I beat it Thursday morning. I think it took me eight hours our so to beat, I'm not sure I wasn't really timing myself, but you could totally beat it in a day if you wanted to. Overall I liked it, there are parts where it's absolute brilliant, and other parts that make me groan. (I didn't guess who the killer was either, kinda good, but I do have a gripe with it)

Stuff I like:
At moments I was totally drawn in really caring what happens to my character, because they can die. There are some pretty big decisions you have to make too, and I seriously had to take a moment to think about them. They handle controlling four characters well and it keeps the pace up for the most part. The story overall is great. Animations for the action parts of the game are great.

Stuff the I didn't like:
The voice acting is all over the place. It's mostly because they have brits doing American accents, so if you're not American, you might not notice. The dialog is kinda bad in places, "That's what I call girl Power," OMG, stfu, seriously! I'm blaming brit writers on that one. The animations for dialogs are weird. This is mostly uncanny valley stuff, and it totally looks unnatural at times. Uncharted 2 did all these things beautifully (seriously play that game if you haven't already) so it raised the bar greatly and HR isn't holding up. It's kinda annoying when the story is such a huge part of the game. The walking is stupid, you have to hold down the R2 button to move forward. I kinda understand why they did it this way, but when my character gets stuck in a corner spinning around, it's a problem. Then there are some plot holes they never really explain, so that's kinda bothersome.

Other Stuff:
Graphics are suppose to be a major thing for this game, but for me,  it falls under the acceptable graphics for this generation. It looks good, it's just there weren't any, "holy smokes look at that" moments. That's how it is for most games these days.

I like the game. The things i didn't like don't ruin the game, but it's enough that to keep a good game from being amazing. I recommend people who like thrillers and more adult stories. There are some great moments in there. At the very least give it a rent.

So I saw Family Guy: SSSD tonight, and I'm sad to say I was kinda disappointed. It had it's moments but it wasn't as good as Blue Harvest. I say save your money and wait for it to show up on TV.
