Everything Else / Bushisms
« on: September 06, 2005, 01:45:08 pm »
This is not a topic to bash the president, this is a topic to share your favorite Bushisms. If the topic becomes any more than quotes from the president or comments like "LOL that was a good one" then I will have to lock the topic. That being said, have fun!

Everything Else / Monkey sniffs butt video
« on: September 01, 2005, 10:47:31 am »
I was wondering if anyone could render assistance. I am looking for the video clip where the monkey puts its finger up its butt, sniffs the finger, and falls out of the tree. Please help me find it.

Forum Games / Have a banana!
« on: August 27, 2005, 07:05:04 pm »
I just saw this on another forum. It didn't work there because all the members are about nine years old, but I'm confident that it will work here.

Anyway, here's how the game works. I hand you a banana, you tell why you can't have it, then hand it off (to no one in particular. That means don't say "Here, have a banana, LadyM.)

I will start with an example:

Quote from: first person
here, have a banana

Quote from: second person
Bananas give me hives. Here have a banana.

So here. Have a banana.

Music / The all-new favourite genre thread!
« on: August 18, 2005, 07:05:43 pm »
If your favorite genre isn't in there, just post here and tell me what it is and I will gladly update it. Just don't get too specific. I don't want to have 50 categories like "Country from the 1950's by male artists." Chances are that with 13 and counting categories of music, something very similar will be on there. If it's really a mainstream genre and I just forgot it, then post and I'll update.

And you can change your vote this time.

The list is pretty much done expanding now, just vote on what's on there.

Console Games / The new Xbox 360 thread!
« on: August 18, 2005, 09:03:25 am »
From what I read on the gamingsteve front page, the Xbox 360 looks like a steaming pile of Sith. Does the "no hard drive on the core" thing mean that you won't be able to download content to the hard drive? That's the whole point of the Xbox, to download new content with it and taunt those with a PS2 and/or GC. If they're not gonna use the hard drive like they did the old Xbox, there's really no point in getting a 360. Thoughts about this or anything else 360 related?

Spore: General / Maybe I'm crazy...
« on: August 03, 2005, 08:52:41 pm »
I don't know, I might be insane. But honestly, I have no idea why I desire video games. They're only a gig or 2 of play pretend material. Don't get me wrong, no offence to video games, I love the little things. But I don't know why! Could someone please try to tell me why?

Also, the search for an answer has just caused me to question it even more. I'M GETTING A HEADACHE NOW! Maybe it's the way I'm thinking about it, but if anyone else feels the same way please let me know. God I'm sick.

Spore: General / Genetic Modification with UFO
« on: July 28, 2005, 04:00:03 pm »
I looked for similar threads, but I couldn't find any. So...

With the UFO's genetic modifier, will I be able to make any creature I want without the "evolution points" aspect? If I abduct a chicken herbivore, would I be able to make a carnivorous whale from it? Also, will I be able to affect the brain of the creature? If it's smart, can I make it dumber, and if it's dumb, can I make it smarter? Thanks.

EDIT: Also, will you be able to create the "actual" creature that you made in the editor and drop it on planets?

EDIT2: Another quick question about the UFO. Does it cost money to do something every time, or do you buy the tool and then whatever you do is free? For example, with the genesis device, would you pay 2,000 units of money for the device, and then use it as much as you wish for free, would you pay 200 units each time you use it, or would you pay 1,000 units for the device and pay 100 units each time you use it? Sorry if that doesn't make sense, I've never been one for words.

EDIT3: Will I be able to program robots to do my bidding? Say, program an army of giant robots to destroy civilizations, and then wait while I swing by and pick them up?

Spore: General / Multi-player mode
« on: July 20, 2005, 11:55:29 am »
I know Will said that multiplayer won't be in the game, because your planet could be destroyed and ruin your whole game experience. I think it would be fun if they implemented an RTS-style multiplayer game in it (in addition to the single player mode), where it's a race to build your UFO, so that you can destroy everyone else's planets, or be the first to get every UFO upgrade, get the most money in a given amount of time... any number of game types. Maybe they would have one where you try to build the best creature and fight other creatures. Any thoughts on this?

EDIT: there's also a comic on penny arcade about spore, here it is:

Spore: General / E-mail to Wright
« on: July 17, 2005, 09:27:21 pm »
Sorry for all the new topics by the community n00b13t, but i thought this was a good one. I sent this e-mail with some of the more "pressing" details of the game to Will Wright, I thought you guys might have some fun with it until (if) he replies. I'll share his response in this thread when (if) he does. I know number 11 is very, very far fetched, but it's worth a shot. Hell, I'd practically give my soul for ten minutes with that thing.

I know you must get a lot of email about Spore, and if you answer these questions, I will share them with the community at I will be completely contented if you even reply to anything in this email, so feel free answer any questions you want in as many or as few words as you want, if you choose to even read it.

1) Will there be infantry in the tribal or city stages of the game, or are you limited to war when you reach civilization?

2) Once you get to the tribal phase of the game, will you still be able to evolve your species?

3) A question about the abruptness of evolution... If I start out with a creature that looks like a koala bear, can I make a creature that looks like a whale by the next generation, or is it more of a realistic, gradual process?

4) I believe I heard somewhere that as you evolve your creature, the planet will form to it. For example, if I make a land creature, there will be a lot of land on my home world, whereas if I make a water creature, there will be much more water.

5) Is the Maxis team aiming for a teen rated game? If so, how much are would the team be willing to sacrifice (take out, change from original, etc) to keep it on that course?

6) No offence, but is this going to be a game "designed" for expansion packs?

7) The demo looked all but finished, what aspects of this game are going to take the extra year+ that the current release period calls for?

8) Will there be any amphibious creatures or vehicles? Will the UFO be able to move underwater?

9) What is the Maxis staff going to do about having inappropriate characters or tons and tons of basically the same characters (as it almost certainly will be with familiar creatures, like pokemon or humans)?

10) How complex will the civilizations get? Will there be leaders, government, corruption, trends, etc?

11) Please, kind sir, please. Would you release a beta phase of the creature editor to the public? Maybe just to me? I'll surely be unable to concentrate on anything until I am able to experience this incredible stroke of genius.

Spore: General / a couple of things
« on: July 17, 2005, 06:52:27 pm »
1) i know this is a dumb question, but i can't find part 2 of the interview. could someone help me out with that?

2) I think i heard somewhere that maxis is aiming at a teen game? i want to make sure this is true because my dad won't let me get any games where you're encouraged to needlessly exterminate a race of inteligent beings... go figure. if it's a teen game, then i don't need his permission to get it. (fyi, fye sold me "full metal jacket," a very r-rated movie, and a cd with the parental advisory sticker on it, chances are they'll sell you M games unless this new law comes in to effect)

I know this probably shouldn't have been made a new post, but i didn't know where/who else to ask. i apologize for my ignorance. please no bannage.

Spore: General / why the wait?
« on: July 17, 2005, 03:54:41 pm »
what about this game is going to take over a year to finish? Will's demo (which can be seen at just scroll down to where you see it) looked awesome, very near completion. seriously, what's gonna take so long?
