Console Games / CEO of SCEA: PS3 is about value down the line.
« on: May 11, 2006, 02:57:09 pm »
I saw a private interview by gamespot with the CEO of sony computer entertainment of america and he said that PS3 is basically value down the line, and that it's going to last just as long as PS1 and PS2, which had long life spans, especially the PS1. What they are looking for with all the hardware mumbo jumbo is basically saying, that game studios haven't really had enough time to get good games out, and they are selling the console now, to catch up with Microsoft's early release, not so much giving everyone a "Holy $&!@" presentation this year.

It's definitly probable, that the 360 will have games that really takes advantange of the console before PS3 does, and the 600 dollar price tag for the better PS3 console is a downer. However, it is likely that sony will not lower the price of the console by next year E3, and that good games will come out, that are just going to be first/second gen  games for new console for the PS3, that are worth taking a look at. And their plan for the online thing... well... lets just say that Xbox will have it better no matter what..

So Sony does have a bad start... but we don't know for sure, if Microsoft's strategy to release their console earlier is going to work yet. And titles like MGS 4, and FFXIII are bound to draw at least some consumers to buy PS3, if not, both consoles.

And Nintendo? well, they have the win win situation dont they?  :P  I can see many of my friends getting a 360 or PS3, and then a Wii.

Here is the link: It's at the bottom at 12:54...... WHOA, this is big.

Console Games / E3: Sony Press Conference Live
« on: May 08, 2006, 05:00:20 pm »
Coverage for those of you who don't have a live feed.

5:00 - PSP is fastest selling platform in company history. (Sony trying to buff up PSP with sweettalk). 155 more titles will be added.
Trailers: Killzone: Liberation.   Loco Roco (shown at Tokyo gameshow, pretty cool like warrior ware) Dark mirror (dark 3 person shooter like Splinter cell.. kinda..) and some talkman game... someone mimic the DS....

5:05 -  RSS video/live video/etc etc for future PSP firmware updates.

5:07 -  Promotion video of all these people from around the world saying they are excited for the PS2, including New York, London, Sydney, Cape Town, Tokyo, Mexcio City (i think, i missed it).

5:10 -  Finally some PS3 news (of corse, after going over the old stats released last year... BORING): PSP is going to be compatiable, I guess you can plug it in and playing it on TV through the PS3... But I think it's apparant that Sony is sticking to 1080p to beat down on Xbox 360  :D

5:13 -  PS3 ships with HD. Simultaneous release early november this year. Black PS3 will be released worldwide... I guess the silver colored is gonna be special order.

5:15 - PS3 playable game titles will be showcased at Sony booth at E3. WOHOO!! I know what I'm looking forward to on thursday.  ;D

5:17 - Kazamuri Yamuchi, creater of Gran Turismo coming up to the stage, with the British guy at Sony that does hardware stuff =P. Announcing PS3 title Gran Turismo HD.

5:20 - Gran Turismo running at 1080p at 60 frames per second, NON-COMPRESSED!!! SHOCK!! designed for 16:9 ratio screen... and of corse the racing... and also... you can driver scooters (hehe). Looks awesome... but I cant really see it from my house... taken that I don't have a 1920 by 1080 feed from the press conference  :P But the Tokyo track it showed looks just like the one that was in GT4.

5:22 - GT4 compared, 12 times the amount of data going through. Loading times a lot less than PS2.

5:30 - Boring GT4 like image... but they did announce online testing in Japan for online stuff.. hmmm interesting..

5:32 - Rubber ducky of doom on an eye toy demo... bleh...

5:38 - PSP stuff.... let's see....

5:45 - Online Music Store... boring....

5:50 - I'll post something when something IMPORTANT....  :P

6:00 - So far.... 1080p crap.. and a lame game called africa.... with no gameplay

6:05 - Typical generation-1 next gen console game... does not really use the full power of the console, just some beffed up graphics.

6:07 - Resistance first person shooter... not quite as good as killzone 3.. but pretty cool shooting... but nothing new... if Black was on PS3... it'll totally own... again, quickly put together game... nothing too amazing... small first level demo.

6:16 - A lot of crap... IT SUCKS!

6:35 - Metal Gear Solid 4... not alot... but it shows Solid Snake comitting suicide.
And then the new PS3 controller... looks like ps2 controller. with a big button in the middle. Then some motion sensoring stuff.. with Bluetooth... it's copying the Nintendo controller idea... news... but seriously, stop copying Ninteod... I am right not... really mad... Cause so far, this press release has been bad...

6:40 - Warhedge or something.. flying game that plays using only moving the controller around in mid air... but I doubt it's going to be that great.... I don't like it too much...

6:45 - 499 for 20gb model in US, 599 for 60gb model. Same for Euro except in Euros.

This is what I think overall.... Sony has failed us all. Xbox 360 will have a chance now, if they show ANYTHING concerning Halo 3.

Killzone is dead. No great games. Metal Gear Solid 4 with the same technology just different video. Nothing new except for the controller... And it's not that great, it copied off Nintendo off the controller... Microsoft of it's xbox live.... Great... I really am not gonna buy PS3 at release. Only after it gets cheaper or some breakout game like GTA comes out or Killzone for the PS3..

Console Games / Square Enix: FFXIII on PS3
« on: May 08, 2006, 03:52:24 pm »

The game was begun by the FFX team for PS2, but the team was then derailed to make last year's FFVII PS3 tech demo. They were so happy with the hardware, they decided to then shift development to the new platform. Apparently the game will run on the "White Engine" and will feature the most technologically advanced civilization ever featured in a Final Fantasy. The storyline will center on "those who resist the world." Yeah, okay.

HUZZAH! For RPG lovers. Time to get a PS3   ;D

PC Games / Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter: PC difficulty.
« on: May 06, 2006, 05:01:37 pm »
I got the game and I can't even get through the first level... I have my difficulty on easy, but it's like impossible to make through the mission un-touched. The game is pretty cool, I can give ya that. But the A.I. of your squad is like 50 and you die after you get shot like 3 times.

So I looked around and wanted to take the easy way: getting some cheats... but there ain't any for the PC version! only Xbox360 cheats.... can someone help me here? If anyone have played the game, want to give me some pointers... I'm on mission #1....

PC Games / *SHOCK* Quitting WoW
« on: May 05, 2006, 04:58:01 am »
Ok, I've officially ended to World of Warcraft madness I've had for the past 8 months. It's an awesome game.. but I just keep playing and playing, and quit frankly, After you've seen the end-game stuff.. it's just pretty much just grinding the useless rep, or farming for that tiny extra percent of magic resistance you might use...

To sum it up, WoW got boring.

I've also found that the guilds of WoW are very interesting too. The way that there are officers and guild officer channels make things sometimes quite.... "unpleasant". This is what we call power struggels and sometimes even guild drama. It might result in you getting the boot from the guild, just because you've talked too much in guild chat, or said something that someone didn't really like over the guild's privately owned ventrilo server. People get very sensitive when the game and the people is all that they have.

So WoW also got stressful...

It's been an interesting experience, and I'll probably be playing again when Buring Crusade comes out. However, the orginal rush, that feeling that I've gotta play it everyday, has fade away from me. I'm beggining to play Kingdom of Hearts II, G.R.A.W., playing games that I've missing since playing WoW like Call of Duty 2 and Age of Empires III.
Suprisingly, I've found room to play Oblivion while I was playing WoW... (and also listening to Gaming Steve's podcast duh! :D ) didn't know how that worked out, but it did.

Anywho, this is just my experience, from the World of Warcraft madness. I still have quite a number of RL friends that still play WoW, but I don't know how long that will last. If anyone else has something similar, or some questions they have for me, I'll be happy to answer them. And since I quit WoW, I'm probably going to be more active on the forums.

Console Games / New Legend of Zelda
« on: March 28, 2006, 12:08:21 pm »
Haven't been posting of the forums in a while, have submerged myself for the past couple of months playing WOW.

Speaking of WOW, just WOW.... if u saw the video that actually recorded at GDC, people were cheering at the game. I have to say, Nintendo deliver exciting speeches and their games attract me the most out of all three consoles. Anyways, what do you guys think of the game? Although the character is still kiddy link, the game play must be really fun expecially if you have played the windwaker series. It's probably a follow up, like oracle of times and seasons as compared to the original legend of Zelda: A Link to the past.
Anywho, I'm also waiting for Twilight princess soon, so this is so far a very good Zelda year =)

Nintendo FTW! WTB Revolution and Twilight princess! PST!!! =P

PC Games / WOW addiction
« on: January 24, 2006, 06:29:36 am »
Yep, your article speaks the truth steve. You only start to get bored after you've lvled 2 60's on boths sides with all epic stuff. That is when you have "completed" the game. Right now, all I'm doing is lvling my fishing, cooking, and other useless stuff that I usually don't use. You see, once you start playing it, you want it all. And it's almost impossible to have it all. So the grinding jsut goes on and on and on... and you get a kick out of it because there is always something that is new ;D

Console Games / Rockstar: LCS on PS2, Another new GTA game coming.
« on: January 06, 2006, 02:42:03 pm »
Rockstar announced that they are planning to port Liberty City Stories to the PS2 by the end of March. Also they are announcing that a new GTA title is coming, but no news on if it's going to be PS3 or PS2, possibly 360 and PSP... anyways, something to keep you guys busy before the next GTA game.

Personally, I think this is great and I will definitly buy Liberty City Stories. I'm also waiting for Twilight Princess, probably the only 2 current-gen console games I'm going to buy before I drop all my cash on a PS3.

Everything Else / How to be a game designer
« on: December 19, 2005, 04:13:27 pm »
I know it's hard to be a game designer, and many thinks they got what it takes, but they don't.

However, I am just wondering, what are the basic prerequisites for being a game designer? What if I don't want to start as a programmer (I've tried, but I just don't have the brains or pacience to look at lines of code... let's just say a VBasic was the best I can do).

I've went back to gaming steve's old podcasts talking about how to get a job in the gaming industry, but it just talks about how you should get started at doing something you like. Out of all the things you can do as a game developer, level designer seems to interest me the most. As I'm 16, I think I should start doing something that gets me started to get into this industry.

Anyone have any ideas? I want to get the ideas in before I actually start doing something, and since my computer parts aren't all here yet, I can't run any games... maybe starcraft...

Anyways, all opinions would be welcome.   :)

I suggest that Steve create a new section which just deals with general gaming issues, issues that affect consoles, PC, and other possible fields.

Console Games / Killzone 2??? or 3???
« on: December 14, 2005, 06:26:22 pm »
Here's an article from Wikipedia:

Guerrilla has confirmed that Killzone 2 will not be a PlayStation 3 title:

"They told us that work on Killzone 2 was already underway and that it would not be a PlayStation 3 title."

And that the trailer we saw at E3 from Sony was supposedly Killzone 3.... WTF?????
