PC Games / GS SimCity (2013) Community Game (Sign Up!)
« on: February 25, 2013, 02:21:28 pm »
It has been talked about ever since we heard that SimCity (2013) would be multiplayer. We would want to have a Gaming Steve region and all play together. This thread is to plan and discuss who is going to be in the region and possibly collaborate on how we want to do it. The game is coming out in about a week so hopefully we can have everyone sign up before it comes out.

The largest region I can find is 16 cities. So there will be 16 slots. Eight of which I am reserving for people who I know were interested. I sent them a PM asking them if they want to join. The other 8 slots are first come first serve.

Discovery Delta (Hydro Delta)
1. Hydromancerx [Hydromancerx] (Thatcher Overlook)*
2. martyk [martyk7] (Rising Sun Valley)*
3. Raz [WhiteFyyre] (Willow Woods)*
4. Oviraptor [Oviraptor85] (Cotton Bend)*
5. SpaceOddity [MarjaSpaceOddity] (Cottonwood Forest)*
6. LadyM [LadyMpire] (Barley Corn Point)*
7. MetallicDragon [MetallicDrgn] (Kazoo Basin)*
8. Petreak [Petreak] (Sawyer's Crossing)*
9. raikitsune [raikitsune] (Harper Plains)*
10. Cobra [Cobraven] (Washtub Fields)*
11. Plank of Wood [TheFuttBuck] (Stackolee Ravine)
12. Josasa [Josasus]
13. Detoxicated
14. ilikesanta

* = Has a city in game.

There are 3 cities that I  know of that have 16 cities. Which region should we use? (See Poll)

1. Viridian Woods
2. Titan Gorge
3. Discovery Delta

PC Games / Wayward (A Rogue-like Surival Game)
« on: February 05, 2013, 05:11:55 pm »
<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

Wayward is a browser-based, turn-based, graphical roguelike currently in beta. It is currently supported and will work in the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, and Opera. In the game, there is a large focus on realism and survival. Because of these elements, most weapons, and items will need to be crafted by natural objects found around the terrain. Unlike traditional roguelikes, in Wayward there are no levels; however, you can gain different skills which increase your effectiveness for each of the individual skills. You can also increase your strength (health), hunger (starvation), and dexterity (stamina), by performing skills that would realistically use one or more of those attributes, for example, parrying increases dexterity while mining increases strength.

Stylistically, Wayward hearkens to a 16-bit aesthetic in graphics and in sound. Game mechanics wise, the game is similar to the Ultima series, more specifically, Ultima Online with inspiration from other roguelikes and roguelikelikes.

So yeah this game is awesome. It has been very fun. Has anyone else played it? If not you can play it at the link below. Note its free but it is still alpha.

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

I have been watching this one for awhile now. It looks cool in that every thing in the game is made by a player. However I wonder how well it would work. Too bad they don't have a demo or something. Apparently its heavily influenced by Haven & Hearth but attempts to combat griefing which is the main problem in H&H.

So yeah I am going to keep my eye on this one along with Starbound.

PC Games / Don't Starve

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

This game I found a few days ago. Its another sandbox survival game but with a very stylize world that looks "Tim Burtonesque". You are basically a scientist and trying to survive in the wilderness. If you don't stay in the light at night then the creatures of the darkness will eat you! Looks fun and very creative. Its still in early alpha so its unfinished. But from what they do have it seems to work from what I have seen. It has lots of potential.

Other important things ...

1. Requires Google Chrome to play.

2. Req you pay for the game ($11.99)

So yeah I might buy this game. If not for the concept just for the stylized graphics.

PC Games / Planet Explorers
« on: November 19, 2012, 08:39:47 pm »

Planet Explorers is an open world voxel based sandbox adventure rpg game set on a distant planet. The game uses a new OpenCL system based on the Unity 3D engine to allow players to change the terrain in anyway, create new objects in any form, and do it anywhere.

In Planet Explorers, it is the year 2287, one of the first colony ships sent out by Earth arrives at the planet Maria, in the Epsilon Indi Star System. During its landing sequence, something appears in front of the massive ship that causes it to lose control and crash into the planet. Some of the colonists survive in lifeboats, but what they find is an unforgiving land filled with creatures ready to outlast the visitors from Earth. Now the survivors must explorer, gather, build, create, fight, and ultimately, conquer the land.

So yeah a sandbox game set on an alien world. Sounds cool to me. I am downloading Alpha 0.4.  From what I have seen it looks cool. I will tell you more as I play it. Anyone else play this game? Here is a video ...

I don't know much about the The Repopulation, but it appears to be some sort of Futuristic Sandbox RPG. Looks kinda cool.

PC Games / Gnomoria - A Dwarf Fortress-like Game

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

Has anyone played Gnomoria? I have tried out the demo and it seems pretty fun. Its seems to be still in Alpha but I might purchase the Alpha version (only $7.99). For someone who gets motion sickness from first person games like Minecraft this seems like a great alternative. Also Dwarf Fortress is a bit confusing to me. It also remind me of the game Towns.

Forum Games / Death and Birth
« on: August 28, 2012, 11:22:37 pm »
The way the game works is you post the Birth and Death of a famous person. On the year that the person was born you post another famous person that died that year.

Here I will start ...

Neil Armstrong
(August 5, 1930 August 25, 2012)

Now someone has to post someone who died in 1930.

Storytelling and Roleplaying / The Neverwinters Nights Poll Game
« on: August 27, 2012, 02:51:10 am »
Welcome to the Neverwinters Nights Poll Game! NWN1 is one of my all time favorite games, I learned much of my modding skills on this game and like the fact it uses 3rd Ed D&D (which I grew up on). The game engine is great for DMing because you can make the world very easily with their editors. Also the CEP has grown over the years so there is a lot of non-base game content to use as well. I am not sure why I never made a poll game for this, but I thought its about time.

The first step is basic character creation. Thus the first few polls will be based on that. This should be fun. Hope you will participate. While the polls do give me feedback I do appreciate people posting ideas and comments. Thus if you see an option not on the poll that you think they should do please post.

Anywho now with the most basic of poll choices ...

What Gender Should You Be? (See Poll)
- Male
- Female
- Random

Note that since I want to have the game give you 3 choices I had to give 3 choices in the poll. While you can technically pick all 3 choices for this please only pick one.

Everything Else / Evolution Themed Tabletop Games
« on: August 09, 2012, 04:27:12 pm »
After buying the game "Evolution: The Origin of Species" last month I have been looking for other evolution themed games and I though I would share them with you.

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

Dominant Species - You play as either the Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Arachnids or Insects. You play until the Ice Age hits.

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

- Evo - You play as Dinosaurs with various adaptions. The game ends when the meteor hits.

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

- Evolution: The Origin of Species - You mix and match traits to make creatures. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

- Phylo - An ecosystem building game. Where you make food webs and stuff.

Quirks - I don't know much about this other than it was published in 1980 and it looks a lot like the cards in the game Sim Life.

Has any one else played these or know of other Evolution themed Tabletop games?

Spore: General / Jointed Spore Figurines!
« on: August 01, 2012, 03:13:56 pm »

Shortly after the Creature Editor was released it was possible to have your creature 3D printed into a figurine. Now, three and a half years later, some clever people have been working on a research project to make figurines complete with joints to make them move the way they do in the game! Read more about it in this Popsci article.

Thanks for reporting Space Oddity!

Spore: General / Spore 2?
« on: July 03, 2012, 03:37:35 am »
So do you think there will ever be a Spore 2?

Or do you think Spore was a one time shot and will not be a series of games like Sim City or The Sims but more like one time games like Sim Isle or Sim Ant?

There has been more than enough time to start developing a sepal. Note that I am not counting expansion packs or Darkspore either.

PC Games / Combo Hydrid Metagaming?
« on: June 25, 2012, 02:23:02 am »
Has anyone played a game and wanted to chnage the rules of the game? Or even thought that it would be great to have one feature from one game and another feature of another game? I am not sure what this term is called other than what I can describe as "Combo Hydrid Metagaming". Here is an example ...

If you play an RTS like Age of Empires and then build your colony. That in turn has your own house rules that allows you to build a house in the Sims. The Sims then have kids which allow you to add a population to your Age of Empires game.

Another example would be playing a game like Civ and then ruling your empire and then making a City in Sim City based on the cities made in Civilization. Or even having a Sim neighborhood based on your Sim City. Or playing an RPG like Neverwinters Nights and then your money and XP is used to make a village in another game.

You get the idea. The points, loot, money, etc is used in a completely different game either through modding or cheating. Some things can even be done by holding back. Such as you cannot use X feature until you discover that tech in another game.

Has anyone done this before, if so what games have you used? And how did you play?
