yeah i know, those WERE great, and so was cow & chicken.  (that red dude with the big butt used to crack my sh** up.)

from what i understand (and a friend of a friend of mine works for Nick)...they sign these animator folks to a 3-year deal, work them absolutely to death making up to 5 years' worth of episodes, then just don't renew the contract at the end.  unless it's some spiralling phenomenal cash cow like spongebob...

the globes this year was a press conference starring the president of the HFPA stating the winners, and it did really poorly in TV ratings, and was attended by zero actors (the screen actors guild voted to boycott in support of the striking writers).  the only awards show to get a wavier from the writers' guild so far this season was the screen actors guild awards (which are supposed to air january 27).  no word on the oscars yet, but i'm quite sure they're preparing contingencies if not outright offering bruce vilanch a lifetime supply of ben and jerry's.  the people's choice awards aired last week and were completely re-formatted...they had queen latifah introducing film clips of award winners being presented their awards on location.  most critics' choice awards aren't televised.

check the globes winners and nominees HERE:  http://www.goldenglobes.org/nominations/index.html

you'll note several interesting upsets on the winner's list, and the fact that the winners were spread all over the map.

and yes...movies from the year 2007 are eligible for the awards season for early 2008.

a full list of the movies eligible for the 80th acadmy awards is HERE:  http://www.oscars.org/80academyawards/reminder/reminder_titles.html

any other movie-awards geeks in the house?

(movie award season to me is like the playoffs and the superbowl to NFL fans...)

i actually came up with charlie and the chocolate factory also:

charlie and the chocolate factory:  a terrified little boy gives his haunted chocolate factory to a quirky hero named willy wonka who saves the boy's imperiled friends...zapping one out of a tv where he is trapped, pulling one out of a garbage disposal to be congratulated by cute and admiring squirrels, deflating one who has turned into a giant blueberry, and finally, getting a giant evil robot to drop a fat boy into the chocolate lake below. the children give willy wonka golden tickets to thank him for saving them.

i did find that while trying this, i found 2 movies that were pretty much the same backwards as forward: i, robot and edward scissorhands.

kk, i'm a geek, but i LOVED "parker lewis can't lose" on fox in the early 90's.

the reason i think it was cancelled too soon is, i had written an episode, and it was sitting on the producer's desk the day the show was cancelled.  true story.  (a friend of mine from my musician days had moved to LA and was appearing reguarly on "dance machine," and "married with children" would tape in another part of the same studio, so my friend became friends with david faustino and billy jayne, and the 3 of them used to go out on the town together.)  i sent my friend my script, he loved it, gave it to billy jayne, he loved it and passed it on to the producer.  then the show got cancelled and so ended my best shot at being an actual hollywood writer.   :-[

pervy old lady votes for bret.   ;D

i honestly nearly pissed myself laughing during the "bowie's in space" episode.  i'm so glad they're coming back for another season!!!!

i get a kick out of whenever they compare themselves to crowded house as though crowded house is the most famous band, ever...in new zealand (where they're from), that's actually true...crowded house is the best-known band to ever come from there in terms of world recognition. even funnier...when this show was just a radio show in new zealand, they'd actually have neil finn (the lead singer of crowded house) guest star as himself every once in awhile as the celebrity they'd pester.  from what i understand, they're now buddies with neil finn.

one very funny piece of trivia...jermaine was the outback steakhouse TV commercial guy for awhile (which is actually really funny since he's NOT australian at all but from new zealand, and the two countries have a major rivalry).  anyone remember that?

09/06/2006       Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Mr. Eko) arrested for driving without a license and disobeying a police officer.  The charges were later
                      dropped.

11/01/2006       Mr. Eko killed off on LOST.

05/03/2006       Ana-Lucia killed off on LOST.

05/13/2006       Libby killed off on LOST.

12/06/2006       Cynthia Watros (Libby) arrested for driving while intoxicated. She pled guilty, got fined $370, 14 hours of counseling, "an alcohol
assessment," and suspended license for 90 days.

12/06/2006       Michelle Rodriguez (AnaLucia) arrested for suspicion of drunk driving in Hawaii, 6 months after being busted in LA for drunk driving,
hit and run, and driving with a suspended license (when she was sentenced to 2 years probation)...the Hawaii incident (she pled
guilty) increased her probation for 3 more years.  However, the Hawaii incident violates her LA probation, so...she got sent to jail
                      for 60 days.

10/27/2007       Daniel Dae-Kim (Jin) was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, and has pled not-guilty...awaiting the resolution.

Six other cast members have been cited for traffic violations, but not arrested:  Josh Holloway, Dominic Monaghan, Naveen Andrews, Ian Somerhalder, Christian Bowman and Harold Perrineau.

ok, so...the arrests and the kill-offs may have happened out of order, but...i find it velly intellesting.   ;)

kk, mommy chimes in...the first thing i'll say (besides, i'm a democrat, but i don't vote straight ticket but for people i think are the best regardless of party)is that my opinion, and the opinion of ALL my housewife friends also, is that we will not vote for hillary clinton just because she's a woman.  from my point of view this is the biggest overall misconception...that women will decide a woman in the white house is the most important thing and therefore vote for hillary solely because of that.  hillary is that type of chick who is a ball-buster but then gets all girly the moment it suits her...and many of us *hate* that.  also, her main claim at this point is that she has the experience level to know how to get things done in washington.

whoever is elected will stand or fall based on who they surround themselves with (current president is indicated as an example).  another example: jimmy carter is this awesome guy but was a really bad president because he didn't surround himself with good, strong, competent people.

i have been active in politics over the years and have to say that never in my life has someone been able to move me to tears with a speech the way barack obama has.  he speaks to a sadness and desperation, a disillusionment that many of us feel right now, and if he pulls it out, THAT'S why.  he may be seen as young and idealistic, he may be seen as someone who lacks experience...but you know what?  GOOD.  why NOT shake things up by bringing in someone with fewer political favors to pay back, and someone who hasn't had the chance to be tainted, spun, bought...someone who isn't a billionaire,  i admit the man isn't strong on specifics. but truthfully...if he surrounds himself with the right people (and i honestly believe he's sharp enough to), that part doesn't matter right now.  all the housewives i've talked to, even the ones who have been republicans their whole lives, are loving barack obama.

by electing barack obama, america would gain some of the respect we've lost from the rest of the world; he is THE ONLY candidate in a position to see things from a 3rd-world country's point of view, and that's going to be damn important as populations surge and resources dwindle.  rasmussen, a pollster that runs numbers (www.rasmussenreports.com) says that obama is the ONLY candidate that beats every republican candidate, and in states where another democrat would also beat the republican candidate, obama would beat the GOP by more.  and as for endorsemnts...i could care less that john kerry endorsed obama...right or wrong, oprah winfrey's endorsement will make a bigger difference.

i agree with dennis kucinich on many things, but i think he's over the moon...i agree with and like john edwards, but i don't think he has the juice to rise higher than 3rd in this throwdown.  which leaves hillary and the big o...and i think you can guess which i'd rather have.   ;D
