I backed this for $25. I thought the footage he showed was realistic in terms of development. Idk, it looks like it has potential and the video was catchy.

He also did an informal ama on his reddit post for those who missed it

New show on the History channel.

The show follows the viking raider known as 'Ragnar Lodbrok,' a complete stud even by Viking standards and it's based off the real guy and his crazy exploits.

What exploits, you ask? Well, as you may know Vikings are known for their boats and their raiding, two things they did almost exclusively to their eastern and southern neighbors for centuries. However, Ragnar decides hey, what if we go west instead?

He's the ****ing guy that figured out sea-travel for the Vikings and proceeded to lead them to be the terrifying barbarian raiders from the north.

This show rocks my socks; delves into the lifestyles of the Nordic people and how they interact with each other and their gods, and follows the story of Ragnar Lodbrock's rise to power and legendary status.

His supporting cast is also varried and fun. The show is the best effort I've ever seen out of History in a long time and I hope they continue this style of show for a long time and follow other big historical names. A 'Mongolians' following the life of Genghis Khan would be epic.

It's very much like Game of Thrones in its setting, mysticism, and adult themes. But it's on cable too, so no boobs and no beheading.

Site News / Ubergeekdom is dead, long live 'Media' or something related..
« on: February 12, 2013, 01:52:21 pm »
Over the years I've noticed that the bottom of the forum receives little love. This could be due to the content within, its placement at the bottom of the forum, or a lack of interest from those of us who are still active.

Either way, something should change it's been like that way to long.

I suggest simply removing Ubergeekdom and consolidating the posts within into a single board similar to PC Games. It could be placed right under 'Everything Else', be named Media/Non game entertainment, and all new post within can simply [Film] [Music] [TV] [Art] their titles to provide easy navigation.

Now, I know the older topics will remain untagged unless the OP edits it, but I personally have no problem with that since there are few enough topics as it is and a simple foray into the topic will reveal the content soon enough.

Can this be done? What do you think mods?

This god damn show is so good. Scifi really just has created[stolen](Thanks UK!) one of the best freaking dramas I have ever had the pleasure to watch. Seriously, this show's ****ing awesome!

Ok so here's the deal:

Vampires exist, they can walk in sunlight and do whatever, they can only be killed by a stake through the heart. They also have a society and set of vampire rules (because why wouldn't they!) that is enforced by 'royals'. If you've played and enjoyed Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodines, then this is just right up in that style of vampire culture. (side note: Bloodlines is on steam, if you have time for a new game check that one out and download the unofficial patch. Anyway, if a dark seedy interesting vampire world doesn't already have you going 'Damn, sounds like it's worth a look' then hold on.

Cause there's werewolves. Werewolves can only turn on the full moon, and they have no/limited control of themselves when in that state. Werewolf culture's more hit and miss, as you would expect they are often either loners or travel in packs with no governing body because they're werewolves why would they? They can only be killed by silver wounds. Now I know, werewolves and vampires? Twilight, weak man no way it's good. No, these are dark, murderous f***ing beast that can only come out once a month. Some hate who they are some revel in it, and there's conflict there later. If you're not interested yet, there's more hang on.

Ghosts. Yuuuuuuuuuuuup. There's ghosts, too. Not your weak, blurry/colorless do nothing ghosts. We're talking full color, possessing, life destroying, haunting, moving tangible stuff, ghosts searching to resolve their burdens. Ghosts want to find their 'door' to the afterlife, but it won't be shown to them until their mortal reservations are solved, kind of a catch-22 you're screwed type thing since they can hardly interact with their people from their past.

Now, of course as expected, the show takes one of each of these supernatural beings and puts them all in a house together for the reason of:

Aidan the vampire wants to be free of the chains of vampire society, choosing instead to try to find more to his life and maintain his humanity. Aidan's a badass, fun to watch, has some great story arcs and shows real development as seasons go on. He's cool, his backstory is cool, and the show does a good job balancing his cool with flaws that you won't notice until other characters do and subsequently point them out for you to go 'Oh hey he did/does do that'.

Josh the werewolf hates that he is a werewolf and keeps himself contained once a month. He was turned 3 years ago, and the general deal is that he completely cut contact with his past life since he found out about his curse. He's a softie, but also interesting to watch because of all the crazy **** that he ends up having to deal with. It's really good and he ends up really coming into his own later in the seasons as he begins to man up and take control. Seriously, season 2 had one of the best bombshells involving this character that I might have ever seen on television. This show is just awesome.

Sally the ghost was murdered by her boyfriend and haunts the house the two boys move together in. Since they're supernatural they can see and talk to her and there's your show. She doesn't really get being a ghost but slowly beings to learn how and what she can do. She starts off slow, but as it goes she becomes more and more interesting simply because the show just keeps the suprises with her coming. Her life is just one drama bomb after the next and season 2 and 3 she starts going through some seriously crazy things that are so much fun to watch. She too, develops leaps and bounds as she deals with one event to the next (there are happy times though, but when it rains it pours).

As the female lead she her character is pretty independent for the most part which is refreshing as it allows the show to manage 3 independent story arcs yet any character can intervene in anothers arc. It's very well done.

Seriously, I'm pretty sure it's on Netflix. Syfy Mondays at 9. This show is good.

PC Games / Path of Exile
« on: January 24, 2013, 06:01:48 pm » - in open beta right now, it's f2p so this is basically the release as well and there will be no further character wipes.

Summary of game:

Features -

6 classes
3 stats, int str dex
1 class per stat, 1 class per hybrid of two stats. (This is important)

A **** ton of skills are available to you, the same skills are available to everyone. However, the catch is that each class starts at a different position in the skill web, thus different paths are more encouraged than others depending on your class (ie, a Ranger CAN get +% spell dmg, but the +% bow damage is closer in the tree and thus, cheaper to get to as it were), min/maxing is very possible. There are also 'capstone' skills that provide game changing bonuses such as removing your crit chance but you have 100% accuracy. (Thus, freeing you up to focus on damage/defense and avoid crit and accuracy skills all together! EEEEEEEEE I LOVE IT!) All skills provide passive benefits.

There are no full respecs, so have a little foresight with how you want your character to develop.

Abilities are done through 'gems'. Gems are inserted into items such as armor/weapons, can be chained with 'support' gems to add effects, and level up independently of your character. Thus, the more you use an ability the better they get, making them valuable in trade as well as in game.

No currency, instead consumables are used for trade. Scrolls of Wisdom (intelligence from D2), Orbs of Transmutation (add magical properties to an item), and other such consumables are instead available to be used as trade offs to prevent gold inflation.

Combat starts slow early, you really feel the effect of your skills as you progress later. Your level 10 character will feel so much stronger than your level 1 and it's nice to have that progression.

Party drop in drop out is seamless. Chat system is good.

Overall this is a fun game if anything, it's free and worth a try. If you like ARPGs this is a damn good one.

They are having different leagues too that include PvP and races, so if you're into that it's available. Start on the hardcore server because when you die you just drop to default rather than deletion. Makes playing a lot more fun but without the heartache.

My characters:
Captain_Jack_Sparrow_ is my main haha add me if you want to play
Katara_ is my other character.

Everything Else / Secret Santa Anyone? (Signups Closed)
« on: December 02, 2012, 08:49:38 pm »
Hey, so we have done a gift exchange when it wasn't Christmas; why not a Christmas gift exchange? (I searched and we actually haven't done this shockingly enough)

I think this'd be fun, and it's easy to do so we should do it. I also run a secret Santa group for my friends so I will just coordinate it.

Who? You will be assigned randomly with another person via lottery pick style drawing.

What? Get the person you're assigned a gift with a 20$ spending limit or so unless you feel like ballin

When? I mean just make sure the gift gets to where it needs to before the 25th; ie mail it by ~19th

Why? Because you can never recei- give enough gifts.

If i missed stuff let me know.

If you don't want to play,
1) Lame
2) That's fine
3) But please do. We want to give you stuff

If you want to play, please post in this thread.

Also, please let me know if you are ok or not ok with international shipping if you want to play! When drawing I will be sure to redraw should you get someone outside of your country. For solo members of countries, I mean I guess you can choose that option but, why..?

Seems like an interesting Deus-Ex style game except with magic. Anyone else picking this up?

It has delivered on its supposed promises. It promised some pretty unique and interesting stuff so I probably am.

Everything Else / People Are Still Reading Spore
« on: March 08, 2012, 11:26:58 pm »
Are you kidding me? People are still reading spore? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? that's just , what? Are you serious? What could people possibly still be learning about the game that they have to find a 7 year old speculative thread? WHAT? Why?

Can anyone explain this ridiculousness?

I'm not talking about the newer stuff, I'm talkin when there are people on threads that we haven't even discussed in half a decade.
To be honest though, I get overly excited when i see someone has stopped on one of our RP threads.

PC Games / Dungeons

Well, coming out on Feb 10th is the new 'Dungeons' game. Kind of like Dungeon Keeper, but newer, and with a different way of doing things (IE, keep heroes alive long enough so they feel good about themselves THEN kill them)

New Valve game announced!

To me, it guess its cool. I like the DotA heroes, but i still really like LoL so I am unsure if I will jump ship or not and buy this. Plus, LoL is free, which has a lot going for it haha. I mean, at least LoL is a new game. This is literally a port with just a new engine...

Wheeeeee! Its Fable 3!

*Watch this one*

I like the new weapon mechanic they are coming up with. Though i am apprehensive with the whole, leading people around thing. Whatever though it will be fun times. Wings, horns, good, evil, all that good stuff is still in it baby! Fable's back!

Lets talk about this!

(Its supposed to have a delayed PC release too, yay!) (boo to delay, but PC is nice)

Storytelling and Roleplaying / Fantasy RP III, OOC

Fantasy RP III OOC
Welcome to the third installment of a gaming steve storytelling and role-playing fantasy RP! A land of magic, steel, beast, iron, dragons, mystics, and conflict await!

This will be a fairly standard RP, we will abide by the Gamingsteve Roleplay Rules. This is the OOC where we will do out of character things and post character bio's, etc. Please be respectful in this topic and keep non-fantasy RP drama (and drama in general) out of this thread. Thank you.

Magic is allowed, please keep sweeping generalizations of the world and its culture/terrain/etc out of your bio unless absolutely vital; this is in order to allow creativity in shaping the world to continue during the RP.

The basic parameters are as such:

Lite Roman inspired culture/technology with scientific advances being made. With magic being a rare thing that doesn't always mean success. IE, there are poor and rich mages.

Conflicts between magic, science, class, tradition, whatever are yet to be determined and will flow through RP and according to villain i would assume.

The Bio format is as follows:

Alright lets do it!

So, we don't really have a dedicated 'Tech' topic. This is now it.

So, Apple. Yeah, I am definitely not a fan of them or their policies towards developers.

Also, the whole Apple vs Adobe thing. Whats up with that? Apple is kind of being a bunch of a- holes in some respects.

Also, Android v iPhone. I prefer Android, its really cool and to me it has more potential because more companies can build upon it. Also, Windows 7 mobile.

Also, Google. I love Google. Alot. But now their all in scandal because of the whole data collection street view cars thing. I don't really think its a big deal but Europe seems up in arms.

Lets discus!

Storytelling and Roleplaying / ChoiceScript and Writing for it.
« on: April 28, 2010, 04:21:48 pm »
Hey all! I have just gotten how to run (after fiddling with it for about 2 hours lol) the ChoiceScript and mess with it down. So, I am going to write and make a game to submit. I have been contemplating doing this for a while, and I guess i just will go for it. Got nothing else to lose but time.

The game is going to be set in a typical medieval world, and will follow the main character from tweens to old-age or death (depending on choices). I plan on having multiple chapters, each having choices that will effect what you can and can't do in the next. From helping your father cut wood in your youth to slaying dragons or winning battles in your future, I want it to feel pretty epic. To anyone who wants to participate, please send me an outline for a 'chapter' or experience you think would be a good edition. If you do not want to participate I understand, and I also understand if you would rather write your own game or want some sort of monetary compensation. Well, I can't do that so i mean, the most I can do is put you into the credits, thanks, scene dedications, and the 'written by' sections of the game. I just thought I would let everyone know that I am trying to get something decent/passable into the 'net and giving those who want a chance to contribute.

Oh, and if you have an outline, please PM it.
