Spore: General / Re: Question about Space stage - holograms.

To answer the question of "What's the point?"...

It would probably be fun to use on a wildlife preserve planet, so you can get up-close and personal with all the species you've collected. That's really the only thing it's good for. Looking at local flora and fauna, maybe getting a closer look at odd geographical formations.

Too tired and busy to make a list of things I love, but I just had to say that I do, indeed, love Spore. Thank you, Team Spore!

The sandbox aspect of the game , was one of the things that drew me the most.

Paying for tools to do so seems is discouraging.

Are there not cheat codes for pretty much everything you could need, though?

If you have to cheat to have fun/enjoy it, the game is broken :\

You have to be positive. Just think of "cheating" as "unlocking the sandbox potential"!

I dreamed that I died, and I was pissed off because I never got to play Spore, and they didn't have Spore in Heaven. I even complained to God, and he made me fight a giant frog.

Of course, I know that there is Spore in Heaven, really. How else could it be Heaven?

Although the commentator said something about UFOs, I think those were aircraft from civ stage at the 2min mark.   One could quickly prove it by exiting the atmosphere and leaving them behind (or not, and get followed by three even more angry UFOs...my bad).

Possibly. Still a remarkable likeness, I say.

In the Space video, around 2:02 or so, a few UFOs come out to attack the player's UFO. They all look the same, though -- as in, the attackers look like the player's UFO, at least to me. Pirates, maybe? Or rebels? I like the concept of rebels from your own species.

Can't we all just agree that all gamers, no matter how they are perceived on some arbitrary casual/hardcore scale, have the inalienable right to play games? Especially Spore?

Actually thinking of trying to get Diablo 2 working again on Vista..is that possible? I'd love to play that instead of Titan Quest it is just better.

Diablo 2 works fine on my Vista laptop, and it doesn't even need the CD anymore thanks to an official patch.

Well, the up and down arrow keys achieve the same purpose as the mouse wheel, and I believe it does it in very small steps, so you could always use them for fine tuning.

That's cool and makes sense.

Aggressive Victory = axe totem pole guy
Social Victory = horn totem pole guy

I wonder if you can gift them to friendship? Or is that in the Civ Stage with buying a rival city?

I do remember hearing that you can win tribes over by gifting. I wonder what that totem piece looks like? Any other tribal pictures lying about?

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" can't remember who said that but yeah!

Arthur C. Clarke.

I have nothing else relevant to add to this conversation, really, except to say that I can't wait to play a religious race. The Book of Jester shall unite the galaxy!

Compared to the recently-released Creature Creator, the creature phase will have more animations and better polish. Vu was unsure if the standalone Creature Creator would be updated in the future.

At the moment, there are no ways to import/export entire planets. Vu said they currently consider them as an instance and, should the dev team make them transferable entitites in the future, they want to make sure they get it right.

There is a limit to the number of planets you can have in your galaxy, much like the number of plots of land in your neighborhood in The Sims.

 >:(

I think they meant number of planets per solar system.

As they compared planets to plots of land in a Sims neighborhood, I think they mean that there are a limited amount of planets to choose from as a starting point. In other words, I think each planet will be a separate save, so you can only have so many playable creatures.

Just my interpretation, of course.

Spore: General / Re: Which difficulty will YOU play ?
« on: July 21, 2008, 03:39:48 am »
Well, I'll certainly try Hard at some point, but I don't know if I'll make it a point to play every game at that level. My gaming skills are average, at best. Most likely, Normal will be my main choice, but if I want to make machinima or other stories with my creatures, then I'll nudge it down to Easy.

Speaking of which, this game needs some kind of Director Mode for the storytellers out there, in which the player truly becomes a god and controls EVERYTHING, even the opposing creatures and weather and such.
