Spore: General / Re: Creatures you DO want to see
« on: March 12, 2007, 06:07:49 pm »
I want to find the most annoying and rapidly spreading pest in the game, a creature that breeds so quickly that it becomes a pestilence to civilization itself, so the only solution is to blow up it home planet. (Later you realize that it has become spacefaring and is on hundreds of different planets!) Good thing its a herbivore.

Hopefully my creature.   :P

I'm going to give mine four stubby legs (1 or 2 joints, so it waddles), a mouth with tentacles to eat fish, and big black eyes. Just so it's cute. (Until i give it massive stabby claws).

I'd like to know more about trade, to see if it's in depth.

For example:

Industrial Country A needs atomic willosaur grabbers. Will Small Beachside Farmer Country directly trade some of their willosaurs for "processing", or will you just *sigh* give them twenty thousand food?

Like, if there's something like natural resources, like fuel, food, water, and secondary goods? (guns, cars, etc.)

Yea, this might be a bit late in the game (I joined the forums yesterday afternoon), but I would like to note that i really appreciate the new tide pool phase (I hope it's later in that stage, not right at the beginning, which IMO should start like the original preview did (I am fond of small orange dots)). However, I think the main thing that is bugging you guys is the big cartoony eyes, but quite frankly, that actually how some look (white membrane surrounding a dark eye spot).

Any way, i would like to note (Oh dear, here it comes): SPORE LOOKZ PWN AWESOME!!!!1!!!!Eleven!!!!!!One!!!!

Time for the fun part: Tribal Combat

Although all Praetorians are skilled fighters, few have reached the level of Warrior in the Praetorian hierarchy. These fighters are almost unstoppable in battle, their skin taking on a shell-like texture. These creatures are masked and hooded, and painted in the traditional pattern of battle tattoos to mask the scent of salt and blood that follows them everywhere. They carry Bladebows (spears made of flexible bamboo-like substance that can be bent into a bow), as well as daggers made of black steel (a very rare substance on their planet, that is almost unbreakable until heated).
Thats it for now.

Sounds like an interesting race. With their ability to fashion projectile weapons from their horns I'm guessing they can quickly regenerate them? The skin ability seems to support this. Does this mean they have a faster metabolism and that on their world desert life is slightly more prolific than on Earth?

Yea, in my mind the desert is (even) more hostile than found on earth, with high amounts of acidic matter in the air, so creatures need those kinds of abilities to survive. One of the few downsides is that they die quickly with a life span of about ten years. Usually they just make up for this in the ability to mate early and have lots of offspring (think babies of babies).

I would also like to note that their horns do not completely grow back, so they can only take tips at a time, because they are only capable of growing one set of tusks in a lifetime, that grow out and up.

In their culture (which is similar to Arabic and North African culture) long horns are a highly respected, because it shows that they never removed tuskbone for battle, which is frowned upon in the later years. (It sounds weird, but after they evolved from their scavenging roots, they found more civilized ways to obtain food, such as domestication and trade, in which they sell the oils found in the sulphur sands)

Spore: Creation Corner / The Desert Praetorian
« on: March 10, 2007, 07:32:00 am »
Hey peoples, I'm new to the forum, and really interested in Spore, so i decided to show you a few pictures that I sketched, along with some background.

Unevolved, Using scythe-like claws and hooves to take down it's prey.

Fully Evolved, Losing its hooves and gaining hand-like claws.

The Desert Praetorian is a small reptilian creature that dwells in the vast expanse of desert on it's home planet, Praet. It is primarily an egg eater, but also acts as a swarm creature, attacking mid-to-large sized creatures throughout it's planet. They are skilled archers, firing off arrowheads with fragments of their own tusk, as well as any other hard substance they can get their pointy little hands on.

The Praetorians senses are especially keen, being able to hear from hypersensitive holes on the side of their head, with also act as basic nostrils. They also have very weak muscles in their back toe, allowing them to pick up vibrations in the ground. This gives them a way to coordinate hunts.

Their skin is both hypersensitive and hyper adaptive. For example, if a creature falls into water with high chlorine, the top layer of skin falls off, letting a new flesh of different mix of cells take it's place, which is completely immune to chlorine. Also, if an object is slowly pushed into the flesh, the skin will consume the object, thus allowing Praetorians to give themselves extra "horns" with rock and bone. However, this should not be overestimated, because anything moving too fast will pierce the skin like paper. This is why they commonly wear untanned hides as armor. I'll think about showing its full process of evolution if you guys like it.
Also: The only bipedal hoofed predator in existence.

Note: Sorry it's huge. I'm horrid with these kinds of things.
