it seems citys can become indefeniteley big after you conquer the world. what is stopping us if like one country ruled all(please no comment on that) to have everything in a city other then we need farms.
While hoping for a completely urbanized city-planet (think Croucsant(sp?)) might be asking for too much, just think how cool that would look if it did get implemented.

Didn't Will say that you could use black holes totravel through the universe? You can probably use those, and when you go in them you can choose out of the planets you've visited which one to go to. And also in the IGN demo, the race he attacked said they were going to destroy his homeworld and that he better go save it. There woukd probably be a button at the bottom of the screen saying "fly to homewold". If not, how would you be able to get home fast enough?
It was mentioned that using black holes would be high level technology though. I guess the lesson here is don't overextend yourself until you are equipped to fight a galaxy-spanning war.

Sounds like an awesome idea.

And maybe you could scatter some primitive weapons for them to use.

Just be careful they don't revolt and try to go after your homeworld. That could be bad too.
When the entertainment on Planet Spartacus revolts, all you can do is shatter the planet with megabombs and leave the asteroids as reminders of the price of disloyalty.  ;D

I guess this means everyone goes back to wildly speculating about potential features.

Tentacles? That's fantastic.

I hope I can make the green or purple tentacle from Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle. I'm giddy at the thought, the green one in particular always cracked me up.

Spore: General / Re: Isn't the Wii controller perfect for Spore?

No, but then I find the Wii controller design (that Sony apperently plans on using now too) more of a silly gimmick than innovative or a positive step forward for consoles.

To be honest, I've been a little let down by the E3 coverage. To me, the building and vehicle editors are just as interesting to me and little has been shown of either.

i can't wait to make absurd mechs for my equally absurd creatures to pilot!

I think the card idea is cool, but I also agree with you that I really want to be able to add my own notation to planets/stars/creatures in my Sporepedia. The galaxy has been mentioned by multiple sources to be huge, around half a million stars and two million planets in all. When you add in the diverse life on the planets that have a biosphere, cards alone just won't do it.

Like others have said, I would think the developers created a way to mark locations/creatures of note in the Sporepedia. I certainly hope something like that is in. 500,000 or so solar systems with an average of 4 planets each is a lot to keep track of.

I hope you can add your own little notes in Sporepedia entries as well, but this isn't as important.

In the IGN video there was a planet orbiting very close to the sun that was largely covered in lava. Wonder what spraying water would do to a planet like that? Cool it down, or at least nullify the lava? Would there be pretty steam effects?

I'm not a astrophysicist, so take my wild guess with a grain of salt, but the fragments from the large solid core of any gas giant would soon make that moon a cloud of fragments as well. So you would get a two for one deal. I think.

Spore: General / Re: Dyson Spheres

Dyson spheres need a whole lot of material to make. As in, "more material than it takes to make a few solar systems from scratch" more. It would be at the very end of the tech tree if it is in at all.

Ringworlds would be really neat though, but still cost you a huge chunk of change. Still, they are neat ideas.

Could you link to the thread where you found this stuff?
Like the first post said, you need a paid account to read the forum or post there, but here you go:

A thought that was being thrown around in that thread after getting the reply about robots is if it is possible they potentially cause the problems they did in SimEarth. (It's been years since I played it, but one person said they could revolt against the sentient species in the game. I don't seem to remember that myself, but oh well)

Spore: General / Re: Ice Planets?
« on: June 08, 2005, 03:59:25 pm »
With luck there won't be too much of the single-habitat-as-entire-planet thing.
I mean, I wouldn't call Earth an "ice planet" and yet we have lots and varied creatures at the poles.
And even Mars may be mostly rusty desert but it has poles full of dry ice.
Would you call Pluto an "ice planet"?  ;)

I generally agree though. If the planet can sustain life, it should be a varied complex biosphere, not just an all jungle or all forest world. Thats a strange simplification from science ficton books and games. The land to ocean ratio should be fairly random as well.

And lifeless planets should be varied too. Icy Pluto is very different to Hellish Mercury which is very different still to equally Hellish if not more so(but for a completely different reason) Venus which is different to Neptune(Do we know if Gas Giants are in yet, btw)?
