Nice game, too bad it would come out in the year 2098.

well, I guess that's still many years earlier than the release of the actual Duke Nukem Forever... ("Oh noes, we can't release this game yet! We have to change the engine for the 153rd time now!"")

Anyone notice the little back and forward arrows in the bottom right?
Perhaps this is where you can scroll through your creatures in a Sporepedia.

I'd say those will be used to undo or redo changes you've done to your creature. But, who knows...  ;)

Basically what I'm saying is, say, hypothetically it takes an hour to get out of the amoeba stage. Yet, I'm allowed and decide to just not evolve from a cellullar level. Say I end up staying as an amoeba for a month (for whatever reasons). If I decided to evolve... would I be able to zoom straight to the space age in 2 seconds? Because all my 'xp' or 'currency' has been accumulating all this time as an amoeba?

Interesting question. If you decide, that you want to remain an amoeba for the rest of the game, I think that should be possible. But I'm afraid that the "xp-points" you gain with every level will be accumulated. hm... but maybe there's also something like a minimum-requirement of points you have to spend before being able to reach the next level, I dunno...

Really interesting to read through all the different answers here to why people like Spore, thanks a lot for the feedback, guys! :D
It seems that what is mainly characteristic for most of us Spore-Fans is the wish to be able to do something creative with the game. Even though many didn't like The Sims, Spore appeals to them because it has lot more possibilities - almost everything you see can be interacted with and changed.

...and why others don't.

Something I find kinda interesting when telling people about Spore is how some people seem to absolutely love the idea behind Spore while others react with indifference or even keep telling me how boring they think all this is.
Today I posted a longer description of Spore and how it's gonna work, in a forum I visit very frequently. 4 out of 5 (all of them mainly fans of action games) seemed to be very excited about it while around 20 % said that this "sounds almost as boring as the Sims". I asked one of those who found Spore to be boring why he thinks that way and he answered that he wouldn't want to play a game that doesn't have any real goals (like Sims 2, for example). Come to think of it, actually he's right - Spore doesn't have any goals but still that doesn't make me think that this game is gonna be boring. So what is the difference between the gamers who like to play Sim games and others who don't? And what do you think is the Spore PR-Team going to try do to get even those 20% to have a look at Spore? That's gonna be a tough task...
