Movies / Eagle Eye

Seems like it'll be a good movie. This is the one starring Shia Laboeuf. You may have seen trailers of it in which he gets a call of someone telling him that the FBI will enter in 30 seconds...actually..here's one of the trailers. Comes out in september.

Movies / Wanted
« on: June 27, 2008, 07:40:36 am »
Comes out today. Looks like an awesome action movie, starring James McAvoy as  a guy who finds out he pretty much has Bullseye-like super powers (Ok, well, he can just shoot really...really well.) Angelina Jolee is also in it as his...I dunno, partner? Anyway, they're part of some secret assassin society. Oh, and it's based off of a 6-part comic, I think.

Anyway, I haven't seen it yet, this is just what I've gathered from trailers. I'm hoping to see it today or tomorrow.

Movies / The Incredible Hulk

So, anyone planning on seeing this movie? I know I am.  Unfortunately I don't think many people will watch this because of the sheer suckage of the last movie. But I think this one might actually be pretty good.

Really surprised there's no thread for this....
Anyway, has anyone seen this movie yet? If so, was it any good?
I'm putting of watching this til next sunday at 12 (people are in church), since I hate large theater audiences.
So, if it's anything like the earlier Indiana Jones movies, it'll be great. I haven't really seen many trailers, and the ones I did see didn't really give away anything, so I know very little about the movie.

PC Games / Mouse v. Controller
« on: May 19, 2008, 07:38:30 pm »
Ok, this seems to be an important issue. So far we have the arguments that the average PC gamer will be able to use a mouse better and more precisely than the average console gamer uses a controller. I think that's just because they're more exposed to PCs and mouses at work and school. I'm sure there are more arguments from the Left 4 Dead thread that I've missed.

But anyway, since it seemed to be a debate people wanted to participate in, I made a thread for it separately so that we can continue our debate here without further derailing any other threads.

Currently my "argument" is that given people with equal amounts of time at both consoles and PCs (easiest way to make sure of that is just make sure they have no time on either), they will both do about the same. However, there's no real proof of this. So, I really should conduct an experiment among non gamers/PC-users

edit: I just realized I should have made this a poll...dammit.
re-edit: Ok it's a poll now.

Spore: General / Fan Creatures Recreated!
« on: April 24, 2008, 07:14:13 pm »
Well, if you look at the spore site (this page, in particular http://www.spore.com/screenshots.php#recreations ), you'll notice that Hydro's Naucean, LadyM's Mallen, Oviraptor's Vvukkrauur, Wydraz's Flaaarg, and Petreak's Mentripod have been recreated by members of the spore team, and people at NASA (why them, I don't know) have given...evolution evaluations or something.

Anyway, congrats to you guys.

Everything Else / Mainstream Media Hates Video Games...as usual.

http://kotaku.com/379035/grisly-beheading-blamed-on-hitman

Great. Hitman's under fire? He didn't even play the damned game!

Also, this should be the thread to post stuff about media that hates video games (not just jack thompson, though), since it seems to be a popular topic. Also, if there's already a thread like this..could someone please point me in that direction?

Books / Dystopian Novels
« on: February 17, 2008, 12:40:35 pm »
1984, Anthem (ok, it's a novella), The Giver...

I really like this genre, however, for some reason I can't find many books in it. 1984, I think, is one of the best known ones in it. I'm considering reading either fountainhead or atlas shrugged, but I'm really not sure what they're about.
Any suggestions?

Spore: General / Music editor
« on: February 16, 2008, 11:46:13 am »
so, I believe in one vid, wright said you had a little score to work with. Now, do you think this is an actual musical score with a key signature, time signature, bar lines, etc? Will you be inserting actual notes? Or will it be more like a little button that plays a pregenerated tune that you can insert?

And then there's the "roll the dice" music thingy..

PC Games / Game of the Year
« on: December 17, 2007, 06:14:55 pm »
Well, I was watching Xplay's game of the year thing, which was pretty good. CoD4 won a few awards, Halo 3 got none (I think), Bioshock won game of the year though.

Anyway, what were/are your expectations for the game of the year? I was expecting CoD4 to win or Portal.

Oh, i dunno what other sites/shows might have done as their game of the year, so, if anyone has that info, that'd be great.

Console Games / Resident Evil 5 controversy
« on: August 13, 2007, 08:37:18 am »
Ok, I just heard about this, and I don't understand this woman at all. She's a blogger who thinks the upcoming RE is going to be racist against blacks.

http://www.blacklooks.org/2007/07/resident_evil_5.html

There's another article..thing on the gamepolitics website. http://gamepolitics.com/2007/08/01/african-womens-blog-critical-of-resident-evil-5-trailer/

Now, how is it racism if in the other RE games the zombies/whatever were white? I thought equality meant being equal, not bitching about something so you can get special privileges?

*reminds me* Kinda like how we have a "Miss Black South Carolina". I'd love to see a "Miss Caucasian South Carolina".

edit: Actually, this may be more appropriate in the Everything else section...since it has less to do with the game, and more with the "Racist" aspect of it. I dunno. That's just me, so...

Movies / Beowulf
« on: August 05, 2007, 05:55:30 pm »
Ok, I heard about this movie on G4's coverage of comic-con. I read in 6th grade an abridged portion of it (where he kills Grendel) and I think this movie is gonna be awesome!

Anyone have any other info on it?

Books / Reading speed!

http://www.mindbluff.com/askread2.htm

I posted this link into the HP thread yesterday, and I figured since it wasn't HP related I should put it in another thread...

Anyway, I speed read naturally and I take in all the info. According to this, it's 450-500 words. Actually, it's 498, because I was two words away from the next highlighted section.

PC Games / Test your mouse skills!
« on: July 06, 2007, 03:55:31 pm »
This seems pretty easy to me. The thing turns the cursor invisible, and you have to break the targets of varying size.

Too bad it doesn't get harder as you progress. So I guess it's an endurance test.

Spore: General / Converting the Unenlightened
« on: July 02, 2007, 06:53:49 pm »
Ok, so I have some friends...these "friends" tell me that Spore will be boring, or that creating a creature doesn't seem fun. Probably you know people like this. We have to help them. So...

Any ideas on how to convert them? Which videos are short but descriptive? Interviews? You get the point.
