So it's a few years late ... doing a few other things as well on the site, but this was the "big one".

I'll do it when I can. I figured that I play games, and if I can broadcast them and chat with people, kill like 3 birds with one stone. Not quite a true podcast, but I can chat and talk about gaming stuff if people wish to chat me up.

Let's see how this goes. Figure I can play games and chat with people about stuff. Not sure when I'll do it, but I'll start tonight and see how it goes...

I have turned off the registration feature for now and will be updating the site to version 2.0.2 shortly (currently setting up a dev environment to test the update since it's pretty big). But with the site updated to SMF version 2.0.2 the spambots should stop and we'll have a new updated forum! Should have the new version up within the week.

It can cause confusion with the system ... but I can make it (almost) anything you want.

TheManWithNoName is cool. Just let me know what you want it to be and I'll adjust it.

Very cool trick. I added some new anti-spam software on the site so perhaps that caused that error. Anyhow it should be fixed now. And I gave you back your username Nick12506 (if you want a different username let me know and I'll change it).

Site News / Gaming Steve Meet-up at Pax East?
« on: March 10, 2010, 06:06:45 pm »
So it seems that a fair number of people are going to be at Pax East in a few weeks. I am planning on being there as well, so perhaps we can have a little meet-up while we're there? I'm not quite sure of the time/place yet as I want to check out the schedule of events, but probably Friday or Saturday night would be a good idea.

So who is planning on attending Pax and would like to meet-up?

Site News / Forum back up

Hey all, sorry about that. The site crashed and after I did a restart the main messages database for the entire forum was corrupted. It took all night but I finally managed to get it back working.

FYI, I do a data dump every day so worst case scenario I always have a week of backups. But everything is back and appears to be working just fine. Whew.

Not having to worry about spending 30 minutes to an hour for every single post is making my life so much easier. In fact I'm worried that I can do this too much as I could easily do like 20-30 posts a day with this thing...

Figure I would give this a try and work up from here. I think I can handle 140 characters with regular updates no problem...

Glad to hear business is going well for you.

Since you're checking in frequently, where would you suggest we place our various forum proposals and whatnot for you to look at? They've been largely ignored in the past, no response for or against them.

Write me directly.

Are you going to be a part of the forum then? Like I said, you pay the bill and for that we are all very grateful, but you need to look at things the way they are. You aren't a part of the forum any more and you can't make the best decisions for it. If you want to come back and have it be like old times that would be great; otherwise, you've got to give one of the moderators administrative privilege so that things can get done.

They have full administrative privileges, always have. The junior moderators can't ban people, but otherwise have full privileges. And I don't make the decisions for the fourm, the moderators do. And if there is anything they want which they can't do, they contact me and I talk with them.

To be honest the other moderators haven't written to me in YEARS. I only speak with LadyM on a regular basis, communication is a two-way street. If they want something they should ask ME for it, directly.

But until the moderators start paying for the site it's still mine to manage, and the buck stops here.

If you can get Steve to lend you is mount. :D

After E3 was canceled in 2006 I have decided to no longer go to these so-called E3 events anymore. I can only go to so many events per year and this year's E3 (and last year's as well) were E3 in name only. E3 this year would be like going to a riverboat casino and calling it Las Vegas ... there is just no comparison.

So I didn't go this year. And to be honest I've been so busy with work recently that I haven't had any free time. The economy is in the crapper but yet I have more business than I've had in years ... go figure.

However I am sitting down with the guys from Blizzard next week to check out the new Wow Expansion, Starcraft 2, and Diablo 3, so I might have something for you guys in two weeks.

Also I am planning on going to Gen Con this year, which is starting to get a bigger video game presence year after year. As far as I'm concerned Gen Con is the "new" E3 (sort of, PAX is really turning into the new E3).

The sad fact is that I try to keep up with the site and the podcasts, but I make zero money from them and just do them for fun. And right now I run several companies and we have more work than ever before, so I only have so many hours in a day and every single minute of my time is accounted for it seems. If I could just somehow figure out a way to do these podcasts in just a few hours instead of the several that it takes me to make each show I could do them more often, but they take much, much longer than you think to create.

But I am around and I watch the site on a daily basis, even though I might not contribute to discussions I'm always watching...

Honestly, Steve can drop off of the face of the earth for all I care. He's done so little for us in the last two years, he's not even a part of the community any more.

But yet I pay the bills for the site and keep it running even though it costs me $5k a year. Perhaps I should just shut down the site and "not be part of the community any more?"
