Everything Else / Decompose plastic in three months?
« on: May 23, 2008, 06:16:49 pm »
http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/05/teen-decomposes-plastic-bag-in-three-months.php

My question is that if such an abundant food source is available, why haven't these two organisms already multiplied exponentially? Whats preventing them from becoming plentiful enough to naturally decrease the rate of decomposure (er, thats not a word, but you get the idea) of plastics?

Thoughts?

Spore: General / "Spore will fail" says gameplayer.com
« on: March 20, 2008, 12:20:20 am »
I'd like everyone to keep in mind that this article is most likely a hit piece to get people riled up in an attempt to secure hits for their website.  With that being said, this is the first negative preview I've seen about Spore and I've been following the game since it was announced.  Check it out

No water creatures, no true flying, no figurines, and no plant editor.  The first two shouldn't come as a surprise, but I think some people will be bumed out to learn that there is no plant editor.

According to the politician Sally Kern of Oklahoma that is.

Pretty disgusting that this type of ignorance and prejudice still exists in our society today.

I don't think that analyst views hold any water, but it's interesting none the less.

Everything Else / Cuba stands up for.. Civil Liberties?
« on: February 14, 2008, 10:20:22 pm »
Oh, the irony is killing me.

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,23211613-663,00.html

To sum the article up, Cuba is demanding that the U.S. give back Guantanamo Bay, citing "the violation of human rights, unjust incarceration of prisoners held there without charges, and their appearance in courts without guarantees and in which they are convicted in advance"

Now, I understand that there are most likely ulterior motives for this, but I don't care. Go Cuba.

Spore: General / The GFW Podcast talked a bit about Spore
« on: February 13, 2008, 08:59:35 pm »
So the GFW Podcast talked a bit about Spore.  Not much new, but they did explain what those huge creatures we've been seeing in pictures are all about.  Apparently there's a feature called "Epic Sizing" which basically creates a huge version of a creature that roams around.  So to anyone who wanted to make an entire race as big as, say,

this thing, it doesn't look like you can.

PC Games / Free Civ
« on: January 22, 2008, 06:05:25 pm »
My advertisement for the day:

Freeciv is an open source clone of Civilization.  The gameplay is reminiscent of Civilization II with elements of Civ III thrown in.  Civ II was always my favorite version of Civ, so it's nice to see whats essentially an updated version of that.  Check it out, it's free  ;)

PC Games / Battlefield Heroes, free Battlefield game by EA
« on: January 21, 2008, 03:35:07 pm »
Quite a surprising move from EA.  Their taking the battlefield franchise, changing the graphics into something reminiscent of Team Fortress 2, and releasing it for free.

I have to say, I approve of this move.  That's innovating.  Here's another link if anyone wants to read some more about it

Spore: General / Enemy UFO's are confirmed?
« on: January 19, 2008, 08:21:03 pm »
I'm not sure if this is well known information or not, but it can't hurt making the topic.  It appears that there will definitely be alien UFO's attempting to invade your planet.
