PC Games / Endless Space
« on: June 05, 2012, 11:34:01 pm »
Anyone playing Endless Space?  It's a 4X turnbase space empire building game on Steam.  The goal is to build an empire by colonizing planets / star systems, researching technology, making friends / enemies with other galactic empires and, well, killing those enemies.  So your usual 4x stuff in space.  It's pretty awesome.

Anyone else playing it?

PC Games / Napoleon: Total War

So they just announced another game in the total war series titled Napoleon: Total War.

Anyone else play any of the total war games and planning on picking this up?  I recently got into the series and their now one of my favorite games.  I'm a bit surprised they aren't doing an expansion to Empire first, though.

What do you guys think?

PC Games / Game creation and YOU!

Sorry for the corny title.

I'm wondering how many people here are actually planning on going into / are working in the games industry.  In that same respect, anyone here apart of the mod community?

To start things off, I'm not planning on going into the games industry, but I do plan on joining a mod team some day.  Am currently teaching myself C++.

PC Games / Achron (time travel RTS)

Taken from the site:
"Chris used a neat strategy against me in a memorable free-for-all game between him, Konrad, and myself. I launched a massive surprise attack on Chris's mining base, so he traveled back in time, prepared a large fleet to counter my attack and succeeded. However, in the present I acquired nukes and sent a nuke back to the end of the battle that destroyed his remaining fleet. Before it was over, he jumped back further in time, moved his mining base and undid his counter attack. Since his fleet had left the area and my army had conquered it, my nuclear blast from the future decimated my own forces! Right at that time, Konrad came at me with his forces, so I didn't have time to undo my nuclear blast."

Thoughts?

When lies and propaganda go too far

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080925/ap_on_re_as/as_china_space_article_1

So China has announced the successful launch of a spaceshuttle, except, you know, the shuttle hadn't launched yet.  This wouldn't be that bad, but accompanied with the report was astronaut chatter, moment to moment tracking of the shuttle, video of ground technicians staring at screens of the supposed launch, etc.

PC Games / Google to buy Valve
« on: September 17, 2008, 06:59:43 am »
Or that's what the word on the street is.

http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/09/17/google-valve

You know, I'd actually be totally okay with this. This is the one company Valve can sell themselves out to that doesn't result in me getting upset. It might even be a great thing for Steam.

Spore: General / I can't start a game in the space stage?
« on: September 11, 2008, 07:55:08 am »
It's not letting me start a game in the Civilization or Space Stage.  It's telling me I need to play the tribe stage to unlock the other two stages, despite the fact I have two save game files in which I've played all the way through to space.  What gives?

Also, and I believe this to be related to the problem, the game isn't counting achievements I should have.  I know they say that it takes a while for achievements to register online, but I haven't been getting anything popping up on screen telling me I've recieved an achievement and it's been like a week since I've achieved some of the stuff.

Anyone having the same problem or know of a solution?

Spore: General / 1,000 1 star ratings on amazon.com
« on: September 08, 2008, 07:38:26 pm »
Spore is being killed on the amazon.com customer reviews.  It currently has 993 1 star ratings and 27 5 star ratings, two of which were from 2006.

Almost all of the 1 star ratings were given to it not because it's a bad game, but solely because of the draconian DRM that didn't even work in the first place.  I'm having mixed reactions about this - I don't want this to affect the sales of the game, but I want EA to remove the ridiculous DRM and this seems like it might be an effective approach.

@Any mods:  I'm not trying to break any rules.  If you feel I am, you can delete the thread and I apologize.

Spore: General / + and - keys change views in space stage
« on: September 07, 2008, 08:28:56 pm »
Just a public service announcement to those who don't know - You can use the + and - keys to scroll in and out in the space stage.  It's a lot more convenient imo than having to use the mouse wheel.
