Hey Irish people, you okay after Ophelia?

Here in Dublin it was pretty disappointing. Huge fuss in the city, people here didn't know what to expect at all. Went into work and everyone was complaining that everyone else they knew had had their work cancelled. Eventually the boss came in to a sea of displeased faces and made the call. All public transport got suspended for the day a couple hours later so it was a good thing - I would've been stuck.

But then it came and it sucked/blew (I was hoping for something a little more dramatic), it was real windy but not dangerously so. We did lose our doormat though. RIP. We also lost power from 9pm to midnight.

My dad was down south in rural Cork and it was way worse there, it blew the roof off a school. The country had three deaths, all from falling trees.

Yesterday the weather was back to being perfectly normal, except the trees are noticeably more bare than before.

And we have "Storm Brian" coming over the weekend, too! Thanks, climate change!

They grow wild everywhere here this time of year.

Some people think that’s why Samhain and by extension Halloween are things

that's only really the case for large subreddits. smaller ones with good rules+moderation feel more like actual communities

Why isn't it sci fi

cause it ain't "science" fiction - sci-fi is meant to imagine consequences of technological and scientific advances and how they impact society

it's often considered "science fantasy" which is a blend of sci fi and fantasy

This is weird, right?  That the word no one is arguing about is the one that's dropped but the one in contention stays?

Get your act together, English, you're embarrassing us.

Yeah was thinking that while I was typing it. Bad words!!

messed up screens and the docks scratching up the screen,

eh. that kind of stuff happens on every new product launch and in the end it turns out it happened to like, a very small vocal minority of buyers. (cf the iphone 6 bendgate or the samsung galaxy notes overheating)

i know it's anecdotal, but neither i nor the 3 other people i know with switches have had any such problems.

that didnt stop gamestop from trying to sell me screen protectors to stop the 'inevitable' scratching, though.

All the positive switch talk has gotten me excited for a bright future, I must say. The switch is basically perfect for my current situation: all of a sudden I have way more disposable income than I've ever had before, and now comes a system that's basically a handheld with the support of a main line console? I'm looking forward to being more of an active participant this generation. It's cool.

Now I just need games that aren't arms or mario (maybe I'll try splatoon 2)
