Everything Else / Changing username
« on: September 23, 2006, 04:26:12 am »
So, should I keep the old one or ask a mod to change it?

Here's some options for the new one:
Good Riddance (It's just what pops into mind when I see my username)
Greatness Gardener (Another thing that it makes me think of, not going to use it, anyway)
Saneday of Insanity (or just Saneday)
FinnConner's Times (FinnConner, FinnCon?)

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

There's already a topic about this on the Site News and I thought that it should be informed here, too. So, do you think the stickies on Spore forum should be reduced? And how would you do that?

IMO, this is the best solution so far:
The problem with merging huge topics is that all the post no longer make sense. Here is my idea:

Make one post stickied. In that post, put links to each thread that would otherwise be stickied. That way, there is only ever one thread in the sticky, but all the important threads are still at the top. I just need to know what to add to that list. (Merging is not an option, it would mess up those topics way too much).

Just because some people here don't seem to know...

Do you? ;)

(I hope there won't be many wrong answers!)

Movies / Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning (free download)
« on: July 09, 2006, 11:08:15 am »
I'm not very good at this, so let's just do it the easy way ;):

In the Pirkinning?

Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning is a feature-length sci-fi parody, seven years in the making. It is the product of a core group of five Finns, and over 300 extras, assistants and supporters. The film combines world-class visual effects, a rough-and-ready sense of humour, and a passion that provide the basis for the first-ever Finnish science fiction adventure.

Whats' it about?

Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning is not your run-of-the-mill parody aimed solely at Star Trek fans. It is a motion picture for everyone with a taste for action, humour and zany characters. It is the story of Emperor Pirk - a star fleet commander who declares himself a global overlord and decides to expand his reign beyond the farthest reaches of the universe. The story that unfolds amidst the space battles is a stark reminder of how dangerous the mixture of ambition, cowardice and stupidity is.

Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning begins with Captain James B. Pirk of the starship Kickstart shipwrecked on the 21st century Earth with his crew. Originally from the distant future, Pirk and his crew travelled back in time to save the Earth from hostile aliens, but lost their ship and became stranded. Pirk's daily routine consists mainly of stuffing his face at the local fast food restaurant, and he is finding it difficult to convince the ladies he is, in fact, an intergalactic space hero from the future.

As the prospects for humanity's conquest of space look increasingly bleaker, Pirk comes up with a questionable plan to save mankind's future...

Who made it?

There is no major production company behind the film, but five students and unemployed people from Tampere, a bit of blue linoleum and a few home computers. With these building blocks was created a great adventure and a motion picture that will send major shockwaves through the Finnish film industry - we hope. The big productions couldn't afford catering for the money that went into our film, yet the end result is in many ways a historic, loved, and appreciated film. The Secret Ingredient was passion and the will to prove that not everything is about money.

Whom it may concern

When Star Wreck 5 appeared online for free download in 1997, it was a groundbreaking phenomenon. Never before had a film of such proportions (about 45 minutes in length) been released for free, and the word began to spread on message boards and mailing lists. Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning follows in the footsteps of its forerunner, and is one of the first feature-length quality special-effects films ever to be released online for free.

The torch is being carried by thousands of fans worldwide. They have been tireless in their support for the seven-year production and ensured that the team has kept their faith and their energy. The quality of Star Wreck is largely thanks to their expectations, the meeting of which became a point of honour for the creators.

This is a great film with such a low budget. Most of the actors are amateurs, but it's fun to watch. The special effects are awsome with that budget, very well done. I love it. :-*

Here's the film's website: You can download it there for free, and trust me, it's worth it. ;)

Also see what other people think about it in IMDb: 7.6 stars ;D (But that must be of the Finnish voters. ;))

So just download it, watch it and let me know what you think. Enjoy! ;)

I thought this would be a good place to show off anything and everything you've created using artPad. For those, who have never heard of it; it is an online painting program, where you can watch the whole painting progress from the beginning. So mini-movies are possible, too.
Here's the link: To save, you have to click Save and Send or your painting will be lost forever.

Here are some of my creations (and yes, my real name is Elina):
The one made using only black and white
The one that is supposed to look like it has some kind of an idea
The mini-movie no-one understands
The girl, who (if using imagination) looks a bit like me
The Happyland

And my Spore ads (also found in the Spore Ads using Artpad! -thread):
Spore ad 1
Spore ad 2

All paintings, mini-movies and comments are welcome! (except the nasty ones ;)[well okay, they're welcome, too])
