just over a week ago, this amazing little game for the wii that no one has ever heard of was released in the US (it's been out in europe for a couple months). it's a lot like pikmin, but with more kingdom building and rpg elements thrown in for good measure.

basically you are a curious little boy that one day finds a glorious crown that gives you the power to order people around. you'll summon people in your kingdom to your side, and then go out in to the great unknown to explore, collect treasure, and hopefully beat rival kings to expand your kingdom. whatever you want done, you simply "throw" your subjects at (pikmin style). if it's a log in the way, they'll cut it up, if it's an enemy, they fight it, a hole, they'll dig it, ect. as you expand your kingdom, you'll get to build special job buildings that change your citizens jobs. after a while, you can have farmers, soldiers, carpenters, hunters (ranged attacks) lumberjacks, miners, and many more. you'll eventually have to carry around a large varied group with you to get past different obstacles.

this game uses a very stylish and colorful art style. the cutscenes have a filter on them to make them look like moving oil paintings. the game may look childish, but it actually has some almost borderline adult themes in it. the kings you'll fight are very varied, from a drunk party animal, to a morbidly obese food lover that you literally play pinball against to beat, to a kingdom of worryworts, to a very long bearded king on top of a mountain who thinks that to be great is to be tall. you'll fight these kings in epic boss battles are are each different (some of them you don't even fight against, for example)

anyway, this game borrows some ideas from pikmin, and mixes in a light rpg and sim like experience, and finally adds it's own style with it's art and story. it's a very imaginative game, and it's also a fairly long game (well, 20 hours at least).

i'm just posting this because this game is selling crap in europe right now (it's at about 50k sales after almost 4 months) and i can tell it's not going to fair to well in the america's either. this is a game that i'm loving right now, and i just want the game to sell like it deserves, just like with zack and wiki, or okami, or blastworks, gems many other gems that have been forgotten over the years.

so, anyone willing to give it a chance?

i'm not exactly from the begginning, but i joined the forum in 2006 after a few months of lurking (i think). the 2005 videe was the first one i saw, because i don't think there was any newer videos then.

so i'm up for it if you want a not-quiet-so-old-fart for the documentary.

that did did exist at one time though. after it was deleted, i started a new thread to discuss the leak, which lasted all of 10 minutes, then somebody else tried another thread that was ban-hammered as well.

as far as wiiware goes, swords and soldiers came out last week, and it's actually pretty good. its from the same guys that originally made de blob, and this is their first commercial game they made themselves.

it's basically a 2-d rts where units automatically goto the other side of the screen. there is a simple button layout to build units, and you can cast spells. it'a basically made to work with the wii's controls, so it controls well. the game is a little shallow in complexity, but it is still a good buy at 1000 wiipoints. the game has 30 campain missions, 3 very varied races to play with, local multiplayer skirmishes, challenge modes (like a survival mode) and achievements.

i just decided to look on Google images for spore creatures (was bored lol) and i entered in the name of one of my first creatures, quadraspike, and i found this interesting blog post that featured my creation that i didn't even know about.

http://www.sporedaily.com/2008/06/14/sporepedia-tops-1000-creatures-uploaded-no-sign-of-australian-creature-creator/#disqus_thread

it looks like the site is dead now (no posts or activity since like 9/08. one of the funny parts is the poster showed my creation, which was actually the start of the event in the next post.

yes, actually this was sparked from when another member on this site (forgot his name) was sharing a leaked copy of the cc demo. don't even think about looking for the topic because a mod promply deleted it. i, being the excited little brat i was, downloaded it asap, and then proceeded to uploading creatures till the servers crashed and they locked us out for a few days (till the demo was SUPPOSED to come out). i was one of the first ...um...unintended members posting stuff on there.

over the next couple hours and days, this sparked a heated debate between those that downloaded the leak, and those that didn't, and said it was wrong/immoral to do it, even if it was just a demo.

not quit sure why i posted this, but seeing that blog post just seemed to bring back memories.

also i'm happy that someone else randomly thought my early creation was good enough to put in his post lol.

i desicded to not make a brand new topic for this, and instead just post it in here, since it DOES conserne wiiware (and virtual console...)

it's the answer to the wii's storage problems! there is now support for hdsd cards (upto 32gb in size), you can now directly load games from the sd card to play them(no more having to jumble games around between internal memory to sd card to play something else!), and also whenever you download something off the wii shop channel, you can choose whether to save it in the internal memory or an sd card.

today, wiimenu 4.0 was released, just moments before iwata gdc talk began. this ubpdate adds a *wii sd menu* that you can click on that will show all the channels on your sd card in a menu much liek the main wii menu that shows the channels in the internal memory. it can detect up to 240 channels on an sd card, and you have 20 pages with 12 slots each to happilly organize your games to your hearts content(again, just like the wii's channel screen).

when you click on a channel to start it up, you will have a short load time (ranging from a couple seconds to 15 seconds) where the wii actually temporarily load the game into the wii's internal memory in order to play it. in order to do this, you will have to have enough free space in the wii's internal memory to load the game on there to play.

Bah!  Kids these days.

In MY day, we didn't have any of these sissy one-month unofficial "delays" for exciting expansion packs.   We had to sit through whole year-long setbacks for a slightly dissappointing product in the end.  And we were grateful for it!

yep, i remember those days. my computer only had 1 gig of ram and 100 gigs hard drive. life was tough back then.
back then, i was visiting this site through dial-up on a 10 year old computer running windows 98 with 128mb ram, and a 14 gig hard drive, now i'm *upgraded* with one that has 1 gig ram and like 140gig hd lol.

i'll prably have the close to final version up in the next week or so. i just want to let you all know that right now i'm working on adding a LEVEL EDITOR into the game 8). i have a beta of it up and running (though you can only place the launcher, goal, and walls). i'm having to go through each object (one at a time) and edit them to make them work with the editor. it's a kinda daunting task, because each object is a special case scenario, and needs something different done to it to make it compatible.

so there.
