Spore: General / Re: Omnivore Creature stage question?

That's good to know going in, at least, thanks.

I wish I could change my vote. I picked purple before I actually looked at the picture, simply because I've seen too many green creatures and I hate the colour orange. I didn't actually realize that the purple gave the creature such a Barney-type look.

I'd vote the green instead. That colouring and texturing actually looks pretty good.

I'll probably comment on those that stand out, or end up in my pack/fleet.

Did you end the cell phase in the omnivore category? Maybe you only get mouths for the category you ended with (no matter what type of mouth you're actually using.)

Grapefruit, have you tried playing on an easier difficulty?

No, I'm not being sarcastic. I'm just wondering if the frustration level is still so high in lower difficulties if you have a general idea what you're doing. (Yes, I'm still trying to figure out if it's a bug or just people being new to the game.)

According to Caryl in another thread, hit the C button. V to take videos. :)

You're looking at it wrong. The game picks what creatures to use. Someone who cheated for more DNA will show up just the same as someone who made a creature in the Creature Creator. There's no difference. If a creature is too powerful for your world, it won't be picked.

Of course they did. A few possibilities.

1. This issue has some strategic solution that the testers didn't notice because they're so experienced. It could very well be they didn't have time for focus testing again since this issue popped up. (The release date was set months ago, which means they had a set deadline no matter what.)

2. It could be only a small percentage of players are having the problem. We do know that some people are having no problem at all. It may only seem more common because the people having the problem are vocal. If this is true, then the testing pool just might not have encountered it. (This kind of bug is why MMO games often have player testing in addition to internal QA.)

3. They could know about the issue, and are working on fixing it, but because of the set deadline couldn't actually get it fixed in time. If this is true, we'll see a patch relatively quickly. (And I do seem to remember someone mentioning a patch in development for shortly after release just after the game went gold, but can't remember where I heard it or if it was from an official source.)

Expect either a form letter or no answer at all. (They never emailed me about the lack of confirmation for my CC order. It just showed up in my EADM out of nowhere.)

Really, the only way to get a proper response from EA is to call your local EA tech support line. Those answering the phones seem to be a lot better equipped than those answering emails.

Great, it's nice to hear that it's possible to get over the initial space problems.

Aha, so they don't show up on the webpage? Ok, now I know that I have some hope that maybe someone's encountered one of my creatures after all. :) (Ok, so it's still unlikely.)

I hope it is something like that, that would be a relatively easy fix I'd think. It's probably just changing some numbers in a data file somewhere.

If it's actually some trigger in the AI code, though, then it'll probably take longer to fix.

Then again, even if it is an easy fix, the way EA makes them do patches, if it's anything like Sims, they'll probably wait to put a bunch of fixes and stuff in just to make the effort worthwhile.

If that is the problem, it's disappointing. Diplomacy is one of the things I was looking forward to.

Maybe just delaying making the alliance until you have a good financial foundation to buy out hostile aggressors might help.

telling people not to complain when a game thats very unbalanced to this degree is pretty blind fanboyism in my opinion.  This isn't world of warcraft, we aren't talking about balancing classes against one another, this is a single player campaign if you will.

Yes, but he wasn't saying don't complain about it on the easier difficulties. It was on hard. It could very well be that it isn't a bug this is happening on hard, but it is that it's happening on easier difficulties.

Everybody playing this is new. If on your very first ever game of Civilization IV, if you played on the maximum difficulty, you can very well expect to get stomped on. Why is it so different with Spore?

The problem is, this is happening at easier difficulties too. I'm almost positive that wasn't intended. That is what needs to be fixed. Maybe there's a balance problem on hard too, but nobody's in a position to judge that yet except the people at Maxis.

No events here yet either. Though with 3 million creatures to randomly pick from, the chance of one of my creatures being in someone's game is kind of slim.
