Spore: General / Is this only happening to me: Strong currents in cell stage
« on: September 03, 2008, 05:05:37 pm »
While playing cell stage my cell seemed to be caught in a current being thrown at high speed through the water losing all control for about a minute. While at full speed you don't seem to see any other thigns in the water but as you slow down again you see the other cells and rocks etc. Occasionally hitting them (not to good if you hit a spike) until you slow down enough to continue on your way.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Everything Else / Bejing Olympic games
« on: August 03, 2008, 06:53:47 pm »
After a quick search I was un-able to find a topic for the Olympic games the best I could do was Winter Olympics and a discussion on the London Olympic logo. Any wya with only a few days to go just thought I'd ask. Who is interested, who will be watching any of it are there any events you are looking forward.

I heard some of opening ceremony was leaked by a Korean TV station I haven't any of it but what does anyone think we might see plus who do you think they will light the torch?

1 final thing try and keep any discussion about the games them selves try to avoid any other issues in China such as Tibet and various human rights stuff else where this topic is just for the Olympics.

I finally got the SCC and got it running (Thanx to Patman33 for the final bit) Unfortunately it's only the free trail version so I'm a bit limited if any Australians wants to point me towards the full demo. I'll make some reall pretty stuff. With out further ado they say you never forget you 1st time well here it is.

Death Arm

More to come soon.

This is an Exhibition being held at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image here in Melbourne. It will be on for the next few months I figure I might get a long at some point. I was wondering if there anyone talks anyone is interested in hearing about I may even write up a bit of a report on what I see when I go. A list of talks being done can be found here. Keep in mind I'll probably only make it weekends although I could possibly get into the late night Thursdays. Similar if you see any other aspects of the exhibition you would like to knwo abotu let me know I'll see if I can plan a time to go and have a look around.

Personally I'm pretty interested in these 2

TV / Underbelly: Organised crime being marred by Piracy
« on: March 01, 2008, 04:45:57 pm »
Underbelly is a fantastic Australian Drama it's about the Gangland war that has been taking place in my home town of Melbourne. it covers events that took place between about 1995 and 2004. It basically has a who's who of Australian Actors as the cast a great sound track that's pretty much wall to wall great Australian music. The story it's self is top notch and the fact it is based in truth makes it even better. The down side due to the fact that court cases regarding some of the murders are still taking place. The series is banned in the State of Victoria to prevent the show from possibly sway the jury.

As a result no one here in Melbourne has seen the show. When I say no one has seen the show I mean to say every single man and his dog has seen the show. Now I don't condone downloading shows over the internet and I know this forum doesn't stand for it either but that doesn't change the fact that water-cooler talk in every office in the city is "Which episode of underbelly are you up to?" I think the main job description those working in an offices IT section is "maker of Underbelly copies." Piracy of TV shows is up with people not wanting to wait 6 month to see Lost but this is beyond anything I have seen it's not just the internet savvy that are in on this it's everyone.

Like i said before I'm not going to condone piracy or anything like that but if you can see this series then I recommend it to you.

Everything Else / Heath Ledger Dead
« on: January 22, 2008, 02:51:34 pm »

I heard this when i came into work today I dont think i could have been more suyprised by this. He had some good movies (Cuple not so good as well). I was starting to look for to the new Batman film with him in it as well. Sounds like a Drug OD though rather a shame.

If you haven't seen it you should see "Two Hands" one of the better Australian films I have seen, stars Heath Ledger and includes probably the best bank robbery scene ever.

Everything Else / Better late than never
« on: January 18, 2008, 03:33:33 am »
I guess it was too much to try and win the Gaming Steve best game contest twice seeing how I won a prize for best game in 2005. The contest was announced in Episode 33 and the winners given in episode 35 (Took me a while to track down exactly when). Anyway back then I never got the prize of course then at the end of 06 Steve fell off the face of the earth so that pushed back getting a prize again but with the site now once again living and breathing and reporting gaming news I was able to get in contact with Steve and now finally have a Prize from Steve.

Yep that's Phantom Hourglass written in Japanese. On my brand new DS Case.

Wait a moment those Guitar Hero II stickers aren't even stuck on straight. Also this is a blatant the opportunity to show of a couple of my DS games.

At least it fits in the case. By the way Puzzle Quest is huge fun I barely even scratched the story but enjoying everything. Keep doing all the side quests and grabbing all the runes for crafting. Finally yes the DS is being charged now.

Everything Else / Partitioning a hard drive
« on: August 12, 2007, 09:07:09 pm »
Some of you may know I have a Vista PC so far it's all well and good but various things I have are not Vista compatible and I wish to make a small XP partition so I can install various hardware which only has XP drivers avalible (Most noteably my Nintendo WiFi USB connector) There are a handful of ther items like cameras and phone not all I have tested to see if i can install them but thats not important.

I was wondering if anyone knew how i can create a Partition on my Hard drive Drive Currently my entire drive is formatted to Vista I just want to split about 10 Gig or so off from the unused space and then formatt that and install XP on it. I really really don't want to formatt my current drive just so i can make a partition on installing the OS.

So does anyone have an suggestions or is the only way to buy a small drive and install XP on that?

Console Games / Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector Vista incompatible
« on: August 01, 2007, 08:21:43 pm »
Some of you may know I have recently ot a new PC with Vista installed well today I finally got around to attempting to reinstall the USB connector so i can play online again. After attempting I found that it would fail to work as it seems the USB connector is only compatible with XP. I called Nintendo Australia they confirmed that the connector is Vista incompatible and there is no firmware update avalible. From what i gathered they might be testing for an update but I was not able to gather really confirmation if there was one coming or when it might be avalible.

So just a warning if you plan to upgrade to Vista your Nintendo Wii and DS will need either a Wireless router that is compatible or possibly leave room to make a partition with XP installed to allow you to use your USB connector.

Everything Else / New PC

I know similar topics have been mentioned before i did some basic searching to see if i could avoid a new topic but wasn't able to find anything particularly specific but if anyone knows a relivent topic this should be merged with feel to alert a mod or something.

Anyway we have started looking into getting a new PC at home. I'm the house holds resident technofile but even my knowledge on Computers isn't crash hot. I can put one together but i have no idea whats good or anything like that. We have begun searching mostly looking online and Computers and have a price range of about $500 to $1000 (although we probably wont spend quiet that much probably somewhere between the 2) I guess our 2 highest proities are reliablity and something that we can have for about the next 5 - 6 years with out worrying about it being completely outdated.

Our old computer has served us fine for a while now but it really is getting to be very slow and the other day the fan actually stopped and thats no good at all. Throw in the monitor is shot to heck and it is too primative to really even play 2 or even 3 year old games. We never really ever used it as a games machine  but be good to no what various requirements are.

So as far as things like RAM, CPU, graphics cards, etc should i want to get.

EDIT: Just want to say check out that post count.

Everything Else / WWE's Chris benoit dead
« on: June 25, 2007, 11:42:46 pm »
I just heard about this I can't believe this I dont know how many of you follow wrestling but still holy crap.

Repost from Angel Eyes - WWE Chris Benoit and family Dead
Body: FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife, and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.

Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, but said that couldn't be confirmed until evidence was examined by a crime lab.

The station said that investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, over the weekend, then himself on Monday. A neighbor called police, and the bodies were found in three rooms.

Lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, told The Associated Press the deaths were being investigated as homicide, and that the causes of death awaited autopsy results on Tuesday. Pope said the bodies were discovered about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details.

The house is in a secluded neighborhood set back about 60 yards off a gravel road, surrounded by stacked stone wall and a double-iron gate. On Monday night, the house was dark except for a few outside lights. There was a police car in front, along with two uniformed officers.

Benoit was a former world heavyweight and Intercontinental champion. He also held several tag-team titles during his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."

The native of Canada maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

"My relationship with Chris has extended many years and I consider him a great friend," Carl DeMarco, the president of WWE Canada, said in a statement. "Chris was always first-class warm, friendly, caring and professional one of the best in our business."

Simple game

The object of the game is to move the red block around without  getting  hit
by the blue blocks or touching the black walls.

If you can go longer than 18 seconds you are phenomenal.

Also there is some crap about it being used in testing air force pilots Have fun post your best times. (Currently I'm on 20.201 seconds)

Pokemon Tournament Sign Up sheet this topic will be about the Tournament it will display the rules and host discussion on when how it will go down, please direct general game discussion to the Pokemon thread and try and keep discussion here only about the tournament. The Poll will be regularly updated to reflect options such as rule changes and to decide on things like the start date. Sign up in this topic

6 on 6 battle all Pokemon will be set to level 100 it don't matter what level you are the game will automatically alter levels for the battle and give stats to reflect this keep in mind I don't think the alteration will effect EVs so it be best if your pokes have earned at least all possible EVs for methods on training consult the actual Poke topic.

Legendaries are banned! This is because it will be boring to let everyone have a team of the same 6 Pokemon as everyone else. To prevent confusion on what is and isn't considered legendary. Full list of Legendary Pokemon here all of which may not be used.

One member of a Pokemon species per team this is to prevent a team of Draginite or any other team being used once again just to keep it exciting this should be about having fun and not playing for your life here or anything.

Concerning the GTS you can use it to obtain members for your team just don't go out and grab 100 Charizards or anything like that granted there is no way to enforce this but just asking don't be a tool. You can grab low level unevolved pokemon and train them up. The ultimate way would be to gain via GTS and then breed so you get basically a clean slate just use your own discretion on best to do things.

Tournament will be knock out elimination hopefully we will have the right amount of numbers this is of course subject to change like all the rules depending on how many there are and what ends up being the best way to decide the winner.

If you insist on naming Pokemon keep it clean but that goes with out saying same goes if you decide to say use a Chatot with the Chatter move make sure its recorded voice is clean and generally keep it clean if talking on the Voice chat.

(Cool points will be awarded if someone has a Chatot who's Chatter move is a recording of part of the GamingSteve podcast)

The most important rule is keep it fun this is all about having fun it is all just for fun, currently no prize is set up. Maybe we can work it that you will be given the name of a Sim survivor tribe depending when it starts or Steve will comment on it in his Podcast if and when he makes a new one. Poll maybe to decide what the winner will receive if anything at all

Everything Else / V-Tech Rampage... Game
« on: May 17, 2007, 01:07:01 am »
I heard it on the radio on the way home about some guy from Sydney who posted a flash game at Newgrounds based on the events at V-Tech naturally I'm of the opinion that it's a tasteless attempt at attention. I guess I'm feeding that if I post this here. I wont post a link to the game it's self or anything I don't think the game it self should be looked at if possible I'll just bring some news stories to your attention so you can read up on it your self and come up with your own opinions.
