Spore: General / Re: Creature critiques

The artist in me wants some constructive criticism on one specific creature, my Serd creature. The thing is, the Serd is the first creature I've uploaded that got an angry red face. I yanked the original off and spent a good 2 or 3 hours fixing it up before re-uploading. What you are looking at is the result.

I'm not completely sure why it got a negative reaction in the first place. I subdued the colors a bit, I guess the original was kind of overbearing. I took some horns off that were admittedly in some odd spots, and worked quite a bit on the posture. It's kind of hard to improve when I'm not sure what it was people didn't like in the first place, though, so any constructive criticism is welcome.

It's the artist in me. It's not enough to know that people like or don't like my stuff, I want to know what it IS that's turning people on or off so that I can repeat/avoid it in the future.

Hmmmm. my comment was cut off, but what I was saying was, "I could see how added horns could make the creature look funky."

Is the search even working correctly?  I keep getting the same ones on the first few pages, even when I search by date added.

I'm having the same problem.

While this guy did make a terrible thing, he isn't doing all bad, like this thing...

At least this thing has a body.

Eh, texture was impossible for the Girappo, but the feet were spot on.  Eyes/mouth/ears weren't bad either.  I got the shape fairly well I think too.  Thoughts?

This thing is a great example of an acceptable creature that I'd want to see in my game. It's not too crazy and to be honest, its kind of refreshing to see. I like it a lot more than all the stick monsters I've been seeing.

What /would/ be cool is a Spore screensaver, where the camera pans around the unviverse FINDING THE PLANETS WITH LIFE, and slowly panning around the planets, etc. That would be incredibly cool.

I like the way that sounds... A neat little spoiler to help motivate yourself.

One of these

Blades might be a problem...

And one of these

Stalk eyes might be a problem...

I'll try to make both.

I didn't think there were too many people that remembered the Animorphs...

Well, I know I want to see things that are just dangerous looking... Things that could give a grown man nightmares if ever brought into our living world.

Anyone know the band that played Bill and Ted's Future Music?

Hmmmm... Now I have some questions...

Will there be some sort of Log so that we can keep track of plants and animals that we come across, as well as their names and possibly planets? I suppose the same goes for transportation and weapons/tools. Also what different buildings stand for and are used for with different creatures?

I think that would be a nice thing to have, incase you just want to read about the user created content you've come across.

I suppose that means that I'm also asking, if we have the ability to go into detail about our creatures and so on. If so, would there be any manditory things, like being required to name your creatures?

Finally, will there be a language barrier between different types of creatures on the same planet, and if so, durring the phases where allies are made, do you have to spend points or build a building that helps with the translation of different languages?

I guess thats it for me.

Could we have a creature with no mouth at all?

Thats a good question... If Steve doesn't get around to it, I would think that, you'd be able to have some other means of eating, besides a mouth. Maybe a type of absorbsion where you can just walk over something and eat that way.

EDIT: Or you could possibly make really tiny mouths that can't be seen, since it seems you must choose a mouth to have a classification of what type of eater you are.
