If its anything like the Mass Effect DRM, which it is, supposed to be, you will be limited to 3 validations that can not be revoked - meaning 3 validations and your hooped unless you want to download a crack.

The only thing I find weird is the response that there are no moons and no fast forward button. The first could be explained by claiming the planets orbiting gas giants are not moons... ok but the second I don't really get. What if you just want to develop your one solar system quickly instead of waiting for material to come in.

Spore: General / Re: Spore System Requirements
« on: February 29, 2008, 02:44:58 pm »
Because it uses more to run its programs? Same way the jump from 98 to XP required more RAM.
Not reeeaaally... It probably needs more RAM to run the file manager, do indexing for searches, etc, but if you run Spore by itself you shouldn't need that much more ram.

Vista eats up a pretty big chunk of memory no matter what.  I was told by my friend that 2GB is the recommended to run Vista, because 1GB just can't handle it.

Only if you have all the pretty desktop stuff turned on, otherwise its pretty comparable to XP.

And if you`re thinking of doing a fair amount of gaming get 3 gigs of ram, at current prices you can get 4 for under $100 USD, the amount matters more than the speed but among systems with the same amount of Ram the ram speed can be noticeable.

I`m going to bet that they`re going to require at 6000 series Nvidia card at the minimum, maybe even a 7000 series card. Thats not that bad though because you can get both for at least $100 also.

I really hoping people make Lovecraftian creatures, there's something just so... about them.

Sounds like a cool article, but I'm still refusing to visit the site after they lost their journalistic integrity.

They had journalistic integrity to loose?

Seriously, though, what are you talking about?

Off topic but here..

They fired the Editor in Chief who has been with Gamespot for year because they didn't like the review score he gave Kane and Lynch, they cited what they called issues with the tone of his reveiws - despite the fact that the entire team checks over and corrects reviews multiple times, and they say they've never noticed any tone issues - and also commented that perhaps he didn't give AAA games the time they deserve implying that expensive games that gave alot of ad money to the site deserved a higher score and more review time than smaller games. The suspected spark for the firings was the loss of the Kane and Lynch full page ads along with with being blackballed for the review, shortly afterwards the review and the video review were taken down despite the fact that their review scores and reviews were standard with other reviews at the time. In his absence they've appointed the same person in charge of obtaining ad money to be the Editor in Chief, also the same person in charge of the firing of the previous editor. Afterwards 3 well known reviewers left.

Check out these links for the full story, I think I may have lost track of one or more others though.

I wonder now that a steady, or at least more steady, flow of information is going to be coming in and that a release date has been set how many people are going to be coming back.

I know I am. I visited this forum religiously I think it was back in 06 and then I stopped posting and slowly stopped coming.

So how many of people are there that are coming back? And how long have you been gone?

What? I thought this board was all about not making new topics and using the old ones to keep everything in one place, or did that change in that big argument about well this?

I'm betting if there is something similar to what your saying it'll be located in the terraforming tools, or in the UFO's loadout. Being able to control each creature weapon wouldn't really do anything because by the time you get guns your gonna be in the city or civ stage and when you reach the civ stage your creature is basically an avatar for your UFO (and we don't know if you can control creatures individually in the city/civ stage, or if you could leave the city).

Actually.... do our creatures actually get weapons after the tribal stage or is global warfare conducted with vehicles?

Spore: General / Re: Spore Mods
« on: March 31, 2007, 05:27:52 pm »
My guess is there will be little to no effort made to mod in parts. Many games that have contained the possibility of adding parts or similar stuff, galciv2 for instance, have little if any mods made that add stuff like that. People seem to prefer adding original whole creations, like a new model to select from in the ship creation tool that contains a pre-made enterprise (yes I'm aware you can build it anyway) or other such things. Now because in spore you can build so much it leaves very little room to mod. Parts, new planet dynamics, etc.

Anyway I'm guessing that very little finished mods will actually come out for Spore because A) The mods possible don't really appeal to people B) The difficulty involved in modding.

Then again, I could be wrong and they could design the game to be easy to mod but I'm betting they won't put much effort in that, because then what will they include in expansion packs if they don't add more parts? Lets be serious here people, the expansion packs might end up being likes The Sims and contain only 1 game mechanics change per game.

They don't need to release a new game to update rosters, they could easily have them update via an update if they designed the game to be able to do that.

Yes a large part of the complaint I have with it is with the series sports games, I have no problem with the games that try to re-invent themselves. If final fantasy didn't continiously reinvent its game mechanics I'd also consider it a pretty poor game, possibly highly polished and still fun but because they don't actually do more than the bare minimum I don't really consider them great games. Whats the drive to buy Madden 05 when you have Madden 07?

Bu m y main complain with my friends arguement is that they insist that Sports games by doing nothing new are the best that they can be, they don't want them to actually do more than update rosters and upgrade the graphics. And that Sports games like the newest Madden are just a good a game as say Mass Effect or Bioshock will be. I don't debate that they're fun polished games, but I don't think they deserve as much respect as the Oblivions, Mass Effects, Bioshocks, or Halo's.

Yes if Halo also did nothing spectacular with it's storyline or introduce some differences into the gameplay I'd also consider it a pretty poor game, well the latest anyway. But wasnt Halo3 delayed because it was far too similar to the other halos?

Me and a bunch of buddies are embroilled in a big arguement and I was wondering if I could get some of your feelings on the subject. I say for the most part sports videogames, such as madden, are poor videogames while they say they're great videogames. Also note, we're not including racing games in the sports game genre.

Now it is at this point i'm going to have to make a distinction between fun videogames and good videogames. Good videogames are fun but fun videogames aren't necessarily good videogames.

Anyway out of the 5 people i've talked to, one of which is a hardcore gamer owning all 3 systems and a fairly good PC, all agree that sports games are excellent games and that all they want in a Sports game is upgraded graphics and rosters. And if a sports game has those, while retaining every other feature of its previous incarnation (if good) it is an excellent videogame on par with Oblivion and other AAA games. Now how would you recommend that I debate this?

I agree with them in that Sports Videogames can be quite fun, but I don't agree with them that they are good videogames (notice I do agree there are a few stars that are good videogames, such as fight night). I've tried telling them that the sports games are basically formulaic in their incarnations, that other games require much more thought and skill to design (making sure the game world is correct, the game mechanics are smooth and fun, and a variety of other things), other videogames are unique creations only sharing their core mechanics with other games in their genre or sub-genre. Thats all I can thing of right now but I believe I did raise a few more points.

Anyway what are your opinions on why you do or do not believe Sports videogames are good videogames.
