No more than PS2, Xbox and a slew of other consoles do.

Xbox has the best hardware, some good games, such as Halo and Mechassault, and I suppose you can mod it, but all in all that costs a bundle.
And the gamecube has the worst hardware, but, by far, the most FUN, ORIGINAL, and EXCLUSIVE GAMES.

Feel free to argue, Generic PS2 game/Halo fanboys.  ;)

That is an interesting yet uninformed view you have there, you see the Xbox can be modded (softmod) without costing you a single cent. If you were to say that chipping the Xbox is expensive, I *might* agree with you (for not everyone has disposable cash to justify chipping a perfectly good Xbox) As far as your statement goes about the Gamecube, I cannot totally agree with you there either. You see you accuse the other two of having franchise games you can get on all the systems, yet you neglect to mention Nintendo is just as guilty (although they do not spread their "flagship games" across all the systems) Does the names of these revamped, re-released games mean anything to you: Zelda, Metroid, just about anything with Mario. Fun? Maybe. Original? Definitely not. Exclusive? Yup. Childish? Absolutely.

The ip trace to Texas, with theplanet.com. (an old nemesis of mine  >:( )That explains my crappy ping times, it is taking me 21 hops to reach your site. Oddly the site has not dropped off my end today (I think the server is trying to make me look like a BSer!) I’ll keep F5 ready.

Spore: General / Re: When is E3?
« on: April 01, 2005, 01:37:02 am »
Never been to E3 (the Gamers Mecca) although it is in my home state. But since I have been living in Germany for roughly 10 years I have been to CBIT (the Geeks Mecca) quite a few times. I must make it a point to go to E3 someday.

An interesting question: If you disign MODS for current games, and they are popular. Shouldn't you be considered a "qualified member of the interactive entertainment industry"?

For the last 3-4 days it has been this way, if it happens again you will get your email. ;)

***EDIT***

This is what I am currently getting from pinging your site from Germany:

Code: [Select]

    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

This is from my client, it is not that great but your site is reachable. I will do a whois later to see exactly where the sites server sits, to give me a better idea on distance.

He is correct, at about 1300-1500 (+1 GMT) The forums seem to be "unreachable". This happens no matter where I am at, (on my client, or on the backbone server.)

Portable Games / Re: Is the PSP to expensive?
« on: March 31, 2005, 11:44:42 pm »
I guess I was relatively lucky in picking mine up at $248.00.  ;D

I think part of the problem people have with paying the price is that they look at what the PSP currently does, and not what it might be made to do. Let me show you an example: Most people see it as a portable video game system, that does a few other secondary duties as well (DVD, Audio, picture slide show). As I was driving to work today, I looked over at my PSP as it sat in the passenger side seat and thought to myself Wouldn't it be nice if the PSP had a dashboard car cradle like a PDA. After a few miles of travel I started giving this serious thought due to how the PSP has a slightly unusual layout for power, USB, Headphones. You see most handhelds put the power jack in the back as well as the headphone jack, and just about any other connection, but not the PSP (with the exception of the USB, and iRDA ports). Could this be because of space limitation? Or perhaps a future planned navigation system. It would make sense, your power, and audio points strait down making it easy for connection to the car, the USB points up, perfect for a GPS (With two locking screw areas as well.). With a 1.8 UMD and up to 1GB Pro stick, and the huge PSP screen you would have a very competitive GPS system. This would also go with the Sony's idea of this being and "all-in-one" device.

Spore: General / Re: Expansion Packs (The Everything Syndrome)
« on: March 29, 2005, 06:10:12 am »

Spore: A time forgotten.

As this games is supposedly receiving updates from some server about other players races, why not set a time limit on how long someone’s advanced race is left in abandonment (i.e. the played doesn't play with their pets anymore, and moves on say in 30-60 days.) then the server takes them and there location and decimates them in the past of the current user/gamer, so when he (the new user) comes upon the ruins of that abandon civilization they are able to retrieve artifacts for research, and possibly able to enhance there own advancement. They could possibly link some of these civilizations with more current advanced races, as to draw upon possible blood feud scenarios.

Now if you add this with also the possible idea of warring with other galactic civilizations you would come up with a dynamic set of warfare experiences. Also why not allow life to spring forth from other type elements (i.e. Silicon, Hydrogen, ect, ect...) This would allow different species advantages over colonization over others.

Ahhh that explains it, thanks for the link.

I would say the xbox. Allthough not only for it's gaming but for its soft-modding freindly nature!  ;D I currently have a 120GB HD in my XBox, where I have movies,  MP3's and a few XMAME games sitting. Some might say "well you can Mod the PS2!" This is true, but not as easy as you can SoftMod an XBOX, and a Modded Xbox lets you do waaay more than a modded PS2.  ;D

Everything Else / Re: TOP NEWS

I don't think that's the soulution, the solution is in guiding these users into productive constructive posting, and not limiting them

Heat

Aside from FAQ/Rule posting and the extremity of banning, I see little else to limit post-whoreing.

As they say "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink."

My solution limits the traveling of the horse, but still gives them the opportunity to drink.

Your solution, is not really defined and seems more of a broad sense of a proposal with no vehicle to travel there with. You mention "guiding" them, I believe “mentoring” would be more in order, the problem with this idea is that you are dealing with a virtual personality, who does not have to do jack if they do not want to. With the goal of retaining that person (not banning them) I would say a casual stance would be unrealistic to expect the proposed result with. Therefore this was the reason for my seemingly aggressive action suggestion.

I still fail to see how my solution restricts or limits “productive constructive posting”, it does not stop them from posting, it merely stops their post count, or (if desired by the boards staff) changes it.

Please, do not take this as a flame. I am just doing what was demanded of the thread: being constructive. And trying to be helpful at the same time.

I don't think so, I looked on the back of Gretzky game and there is a small rounded black square with a white wire frame sphere in the lower left of it and a big white number one in the upper left of it. I looked at the German Ridge Racer, it has the same markings except it has the number two instead. Coincidently these numbers coincide with the DVD regions as well. So I believe Sony has done it to us all again.  :(

On phpBB, we have a mod for post-whores that allows us to change their post count or lock it at a certian number. I am sure it wouldn't be that hard to modify it for this board. Or you could do it the old-fashion way and directly edit his account in the mySQL DB.

There, a constructive post.  ;D

Did know that you have a +2 volume setting in the configuration menu for UMD movies?

Told my wife about it and she said, "you spent $250.00 on a toy!?!?" (go figure.  ::) ) Brought it home, and popped Spiderman2 in and watched her become hypnotized. Then I told her about all of the features, and she was like: "This is the most beutiful device I have ever seen!" And this coming from a woman who dislikes video games (except Tetris) and gadgets.

Found out something somewhat interesting about the device, the wallpaper changes color monthly. (this month is a bright green, next month is hot pink.) Change the month and see what I mean. It is not so much the color changes itself that interests me, but more so that Sony has added this odd detail.

Unfortunately, because I am overseas and my PSP is region one, I am limited to what games selection is over here for me to buy. I went to the store yesterday and all they had for games was a soccer game and Gretzky Ice Hockey. I am not a big fan of sports games on the console or the PC, but I am a fan of Hockey, so I thought it *might* work out.

The game is not half bad, the graphics are typical IMO of what you would find on the PS2, loads of selections, and lightening fast game speed. The only draw back is the load time between each game (about 4-6 seconds.), and the games tendancy to lag or hiccup during saves. The game is allright, but nothing to solely base the purchase of a PSP on. (I purchased it for the thought of PS2 quality GTA III on the go.). I am going to try a few more stores today and see if I can locate some other games.
