maybe an idea for a patch *hint* *hint*. if it would just show the number in the achievements page or something, i think that would work.

Its wierd, they show those sorts of stats under badges.  All you'd think it would take is a small ticker on your My Spore page in the game.

Better yet, why can't we choose their philosophy?

Heck, if we can turn them into a Space-faring race, we must have some kind of influence over them.

Not having them 'grow up' to immediately demand tributes and/or declare war on you would be a nice start.

I've never had that happen.  When I uplift a species they are always set to have a 120+ relationship to me so we ally instantly and go from there.

these need to be merged with the omnibus sticky and not be made their own sticky

Unfortunately, the omnibus is dead for now.  Though maybe one of the mods will duplicate this or at least tack up its priority.

I don't think that analyst views hold any water, but it's interesting none the less.

Seems like a reasonable number for the product life if it lasts as long as the Sims or SimCity.

I thought this topic would be a Soviet Russia joke, but was sadly mistaken. Anyway, I don't think the environment will totally control your design, it will probably let you unlock additional parts; so there should be a set of generic parts which are always unlocked. More stylish parts and even just advanced versions of existing parts with better stats will probably be what you try to find in the wild. So while a default leg may be available at first, a longer, more muscular and therefore faster leg may be unlockable by finding it in the environment.

I just hope that you need to unlock the parts each play through.  Elsewise you will have access to more and more each time you play.  That doesn't seem quite as fun to me.

I just realized something.  Another thread confirmed flying creatures.  Does that mean we could have... FLYING EPIC CREATURES?

Someone cue the flying whale!

Why does that make me think Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?

Ding Ding Ding... we have a winner.  Nice to see someone get it. :-D

You hear the booming voice of God with the trumpets as you walk towards a burning bush surrounded by a golden beam of light from the sky.  Thats how you get the missions.
Please stop confusing our newbies. Sarcasm is hard to get across with text only.
It's already hard enough to kill all the hyped-up untruths that have been popping up lately.

And you have proof thats not what happens I assume?

If i remember right, when you ''die'' it takes you back to when you last evolved your creature or something like that. And about stars, i think it was 10.000 or 100.000 im not sure bout that  :D

Similarly, if you die in the tribal or civ stages you are brought back to your last major step but never further back than the start of the stage.

Spore: General / Re: Choose not to share?
« on: February 17, 2008, 06:53:22 am »
What if you want to not share a specific item of content... perhaps a creature that you are working on in its 'beta' form. If I have a specific creature in mind, most likely it'll be walking around 'half complete' while I gather the needed DNA to make it. I wouldn't want my 'half complete' creature pollinated...but I DO want the finished creature to.

I hope there is a flag that you can take on and off specific content that makes it exempt from pollination. I wouldn't want to have some fugly half-finished item show up on another player's Spore with my name attached to it.

Will hsa said you can prevent creatures from being pollinated.  I assume there will be a button in the editors you can click that says "Allow polination" or something like that.

Given Will's focus on a player's "Story" I hope you can include a sort of "Bio" for your creature/building/UFO etc to help enhance the entry. Perhaps a creature that has a seemingly arbitrary limb on it's back would be more interesting if there was a bio that told a quick blurb as to how and why that limb evolved.

But most of the time there won't be a story.  Even in the context of evolution, there is never a reason why something evolved, only what the creature made of it as it developed.  For example, birds didn't gain wings so they could fly, they gained proto-wings that ended up serving other purposes that evolved into wings.  The more interesting bio, I think, would be done at the civ/UFO stage where you have a short blurb on your creature's culture or ideals.

I don't know, I think one could be just as creative with a creature bio...

"The Huckback's spinal limb evolved initially to assist their otherwise low-to the ground bodies to reach the fruit of the Marubi tree. Over time these crude grasping limbs became more refined. With the addition of a thumb-like claw, they are able to grasp far more than just higher-hanging fruit"

Now this bio could be complete and utter fiction. The world your creature was created in could be completely void of fruit-bearing trees and you just put the limb on because you randomly wanted to.

I'd go out of my way to give a positive rating to a truly bizarre creature who's creator goes out of their way to fully explain and justify all of the evolutionary oddities that make up the creature's form.

I do agree though, bios for tribes, civs and UFOs would be very good as well, allowing players to give an extra spark of life to their creations.

Fair nough.  Though I do believe that ultimately bios for tribes, civs and UFOs would be best.  Unfortunately, I still wonder what exactly will be transfered to other players, i.e. will your whole civilization pop up somewhere or just your creatures who have a preference for certain building types, etc.

But... if all that doesn't happen I will still have fun with the game and my little cretins.

Did you mean creations?  :P

I'm probably going to take some of the creatures from my game and create a little universe with them.  After that, I'm going to try to play with the sole restriction that I must use the editors blindfolded.  Wonder how they'll even survive.

Nope I plan on making a race of delinquents ... at least at some point.  Therefore they will all be little cretins.

Heh, it would be interesting to fly around the microbial stage with a UFO.

But not as the microbe......

"Captain, the big blobby thing is attacking us!"

"Deploy the planet buster and show this fool who its dealing with!"

"Aye Aye sir!"

<BOOOOOM>

... and the game fades to the white screen of death

This reminds me of that movie where some man goes in a ship and gets injected into the man because he needs to cure him or something, can't remember the movie though. :-\

There was the original and a remake.  Inner space or something like it.  Disney has a ride based on that idea called Body Works too.
