Spore: General / Re: Game on, with SPOREts?
« on: July 20, 2006, 09:30:08 am »
Haha, SPOREts, that's pretty punny.  I don't see why not, after all, BNW had a soccer ball field you could download and watch your people play on.  I don't see why you couldn't buy a ball for your creatures and watch them kick it around.

Still, to completely create a new sport, that would be tough.  You would have to create new rules, equipment, animations, etc.  No, I think creatures could kick a ball but not necessarily play their own original sport.

I want to be a manipulator behind the scenes.  I want to cause strife and conflict between neighboring civilizations, and then, when they are weakened by war, I will strike and wipe them both out.  I may cooperate with other civs for a time, but my ultimate goal is to destroy all other life in the galaxy.

You know, somehow I think that this poll would be considered by a statistician to be a classic example of "skewed results."  :)

Remember that Spore tailors itself to your style of gameplay.  If you want to be peaceful, I'm sure Spore will find some peaceful civilizations for you to interact with, and if you want to be agressive, Spore will find you some targets  ;)

Remember, Spore builds a balanced environment for you to interact with, both in the creature stage and beyond.

:o Wow, just clicking on WW's name brings up a lot of books.  I didn't know WW was such a prolific writer.

Mr. Wright has occasionally referred to the tribal stage as the one most akin to Diablo, so it seems a given that there will be tribal raiding parties in abundance. Yay!

I thought it was the creature stage he referred to as like Diablo.  Wasn't it something along the lines of comparing going out, fighting monsters, and then returning to the village to level up and stock up and the eating/mating/creature-editing cycle in Spore?

Spore: General / Re: petition for a spore demo

If there's a petition for an open (or if not open, then me-included) demo, consider it signed by Sir Sigmund Wahh, of the Order of Freud.

And don't tell me WW won't live long enough to make this, I mean he's so inventive and loved by the gaming community that he will live forever.

I really hate to be a spoil sport, but (a) didn't WW say he was going to go into semi-retirement after Spore and (b) isn't WW a chain smoker? Both of these would contribute to a much shorter period of time during which WW would make games.

I'm not sure about (a), but I'm pretty sure about (b). Could somebody verify this?

And I'm sorry for ruining your fun; Ripple does sound like a cool game.

And SimTower was really hard!  Just about the time I could move from an office building to a hotel/shopping center, all my offices would start to get old and lose tenants.  I could never seem to get my tower too far off the ground until it came crashing down around me.  Of course, I played it when I was a little kid, so maybe now I'd be able to manage a tower.

I heard hints of missions before, but I still don't fully understand what they mean.  I know that you can do them or leave them, that doing them probably gives you a reward, but how are missions triggered?  How does the game decide to give you a mission?  And is there a mission editor in the game for players to design their own adventurers?

I would just like to take this post to say that if there is a beta test for Spore,

If we rig the city to explode after you evacuate, you won't have to listen to all the people whining.

"But I left my precious keepsakes at home, we have to go back!"
"My daughter was asleep during the evacuation!"
"We should defend our homes, not flee them!"

BOOM!  Problem solved, there's nothing left to whine about.  ;D
