I waited until SP to get my GBA.  But it's not something felt comfortable pulling out at law school.  But this is so much sleeker and stylish, that I would feel all right using in front of pretty much anyone.  It'll be interesting to see how many of these they sell.  I'm considering trading in the SP for one.

This is the book I always recommend to someone who doesn't "get" science fiction.  OSC is a really good author.  He's writing columns online at and  (the column up right now about parenting is a classic).  Today, I found that he's got his own cafepress shop, but I don't get the Dragon Army reference - then again, I haven't read Children of the Mind or any of the alternate Ender series books.  And I haven't read the last few Alvin Maker books.  Man, this is going to be a busy summer between all the reading I've got to catch up on, a new Harry Potter book, movies, etc...

The enemy's gate is down.

Gotta go with the TA.  It's one of the only games I've ever bought that I got multiple copies of and gave away to people.  Combining air, land, AND sea battles?  Fuggedaboutit!  I still have it installed on my computer - love the Shore to Shore map.  Maybe after I get through with finals (meaning, this weekend), I'll have to work my way through Core Contingency again.

Futurama rocks, but I don't watch it on Adult Swim any more because I own them all on DVD.  So for me, adult swim is all about the Venture Bros.  As a fan of Johnny Quest growing up, I laugh so hard at this series.

I have to agree with Steve.  I put a lot of thought into what system I wanted to get, and the 'Cube won out hands down.  Zelda, Metroid Prime, were the games I wanted to play.  Also, I've got a kid in the house, so I wanted to make sure that I had a system that would have games for her as well.  (Of course, she regularly kicks my butt in Soul Calibur 2, but that's neither here nor there).

Maybe it doesn't have an internal hard drive, or built-in networking, but it lets me play games with my daughter.  Plus, the things that Nintendo has been doing with it are innovative - the connectivity to the GBA for extra content, for example.  The Bongos.  It's very portable.  I love my 'Cube.

Pokemon Fire Red, and Final Fantasy Tactics: Advance.  And the two Golden Sun games are also pretty good.  Old-School 16-bit style RPG action.  I like GBA RPG's, so I'm looking forward to eventually getting Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls.

For me, neither.  I'm sticking to my GBA:SP until I see what the online services are going to look like.

Amen.  I once lost my GameBoy SP for about a week, and I honestly went through a period of grieving for it.

Then I found it under my bed.  I WAS SO HAPPY!!!  Metroid Fusion, Pokemon, Final Fantasy Tactis:Advance.  Ahhhhh...  I probably game more on it than I do on my PC or 'Cube.  It's so easy to just pick up, say waiting in line somewhere, play for a couple minutes (DIE, you stupid Zubat!  DIE, DIE, DIE!)  then save and go on.

As far as tentacles go, I'm a big fan of the opposable thumb.

Having said that, I'd like to try making some of the mailman bird-people from Zelda: Wind Waker.  The Rito.

BTW, Pokemon would be cool, but I suppose that you wouldn't be able to do powers, so it'd be best to stick to normal or fighting Pokemon.  Like Primeape!  Or Machop.  Although some of them you'd do just for cuteness sake.  (Mudkip!)

I agree that knowing who made something would build a great sense of community.  Some people would start creating more stuff, looking for notoriety, recognition, that kind of thing.  Of course, I think most people would create because they're playing the game.  But yeah - you hopefully would retain the rights to your own character, just allowing EA/Maxis the right to copy and distribute free of charge.

Having read a bunch of EULA's, I know what kind of restrictions are typically placed on end users.  But there was one EULA I read that really surprised me.  The Agreement for my copy of Freespace 2 (the greatest space combat sim of all time) allows users to make copies for friends and acquaintances.  Hopefully, that's not the reason that game didn't sell amazingly well, and we haven't seen a Freespace 3 yet.

I wonder...  ???  I assume that you surrender any kind of control over your creations as a part of the license agreement - that allows EA to copy and distribute your creatures.  Heck, they would probably throw something in the EULA that assigns the copyright in the creatures to EA or Maxis.

That being the case, I wonder how easy/difficult it would be for EA to take, say, a couple of their favorite creatures, and make a new game based around them?  We're creating where "games make themselves", so what's to keep them from taking stuff from this game and using it in different ways? And would gamers mind if their Spore creatures turned up in, say, a new RTS or FPS from EA?

I'm a law student, so I wonder about this kind of thing.

Sorry, what I meant to say was, #1 is Robotron 2084 Arcade - specifically, it's the new level sound.
