Spore: Sporepedia Exchange / The Rising Star Achievement Thread
« on: January 14, 2009, 08:06:02 am »
I was looking through threads here, trying to get the Rising Star achievement (have 5 sporecasts subscribed to by over 10 people each), when I noticed that, well, there isn't one! So...
To put it simply, this thread is for posting five Sporecasts of yours so that people can sign up. In return, the person should also subscribe to other people's sporecasts in the thread too, presuming that they're below 11 subscribers. A "scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" thing.
Once you get the achievement, I strongly reccomend you edit your post to say to.
Even if you don't play the game, keep in mind that you can easily subscribe by just logging in online and clicking the 'subscribe' button. Do it out of kindness.

So to start it off, here's my 5 threads. I made them only have 1 creation each so that you lot don't need to delete any crappy creations that would be in them otherwise. Nobody else needs to, I was just doing it out of generosity.
[#1] - [#2] - [#3] - [#4] - [#5]
I'll delete them when I get the badge, so no need to unsubscribe later.

Just so you know, you can take me off the list. I don't go here much anymore (the Sporum is more entertaining and has less trolls) and have tests coming up too.

The  change in the price of some parts from the CC to the real spore made some that you could use in abundance before impossible in the real game because you simply cant afford all that many of them.
You, sir, have never heard of console commands.

Do a search for them.

If we have to abandon this, I've got a backup save of the one I sent to krakow, this fortress is WAY too good to pass up; we now know that we need a cooler dining room, and a few more statues around the place. AND CHESTS. WOE BETIDE THOSE WHO DO NOT GIVE THEM CHESTS!
I propose a rule that nobody's allowed to abandon the game as long as there's one dwarf left standing. Unless they excdeptionally screwed up.

And by 'exceptionally screwed up', I mean they managed to cause the entire fort to become one big island and all remaining dwarves are completely crippled, such that there's no possible way to salvage the game.

Is there anyway to have the CC and spore together? Or is it impossible?

Whoops, made a mistake: it doesn't affect all of the Space stage, it affects just one savegame in the space stage.

Quite unfortunately, that savegame is my big one, with a ridiculous number of of colonies and badges.

Also, I tried mixing settings a lot. Didn't work.

But I haven't checked to see if graphics drivers need updating. I should too.

My planets don't show up sometimes on the menu, what I do is wait or go in the Sporepedia for a while until it loads.

Might be same for whats happening in space stage...
Whoops again! The planets show up, what I meant was the twinkling stars in the background galaxy don't show up.

nice call
Please don't resurrect old threads like this. Keep your complaints to one of the active threads.

Or, to put it more seriously, I've got a problem: whenever I play in the Space stage, a LOT of the particles (aka: effects) don't appear. It's just a new thing, and it only happens in the space stage, but its a big problem. Mostly because nearly everything in the Space stage uses particles, as you can see.
Changing any of the settings doesn't help. Well, it worked the first two times (until I turned off the computer), but it doesn't work anymore.
And the oddest part is that what effects are missing seems to be random too. Sometimes, no effects at all show, sometimes a random fraction of all stars, lines, circles and engine trails show. Even when moving around the individual Allies and Enemies circles keep shifting between visible and not visible.
Oh, and after exiting the space stage game and into the main menu, the planets don't show up.

And, for more screenshots:
The spice dried up. And so did my engine, apparently.
A pretty nifty screenshot of the galaxy sans effects.
And it looks like somebody stole the Galactic Core behind my back!

Using Vista and patch 1.3 by the way.

It's in a specific arm. It rotates with the galaxy. Each arm look a little different though, so it's not a guessing game. Study the picture in the OP and look for the arm that matches with it.
Angle 225.06.

I still don't know what you lot have against using co-ordinates.

You have a Spore computer that has neither Spore nor your screenshots on it?
He might've meant 'spare computer', and accidentally typed a wrong vowel.

And capitalised the S for some reason.

Ooh, very handy tip:
Y'know when you conquor a race's homeworld, a new system becomes their homeworld? Well...
1: That system will always be as willing to surrender as a regular race would!
2: After you conquor their homeworld the first time, a Grox planet picked at random becomes the new homeworld.
3: All subsequent conquors, the nearest Grox planet becomes the homeworld. Always.
4: All Grox colonies further than 50pc from the center of the galaxy can be destroyed with just one well-placed Mega Bomb

As I've now managed to conquor all Grox planets closer than 50pc, and I can fully predict where the homeworld (aka: capturable system) will be next, I've stopped relying on allies to get the job done and started bomb-running them instead. Here comes the easy part!

Oh, and:
5: When you first hear that The Grox can't survive in T1-3 atmospheres, you'd swear it'd be the key to defeating them. It's actually a painfully slow method; traditional warfare is far faster!

So after someone decides to get their allies to help them take out the Grox they should be left with a group of massive empires at the center....

If you look veeery closely, you might be able to find one of my few planets in there.

I... won't be doing this for now. I'm still exterminating The Grox, and I'm just after destroying ALL of their strong planets!

Space Stage - Post a Dogfight above a planet, which includes least 7 different types of spaceship.
Tip: you can join in a battle between two other empires to make that 8 if you want. Or if you only have four allies.

I'm making good progress with exterminating The Grox non-cheatingly. I should probably make a thread about it, for fun times!

Some other stuff I found out:
Their Empire extends to about 2,000 parsecs (or 100 parsecs by the InterStellar Drive measurer) from the Galactic Center.
Any Grox planets under exactly 1,000 parsecs out from the center (or 50 by ISD measurer) have two fully-built colonies.
The Zealot superpower, the one that instantly gives you control over the colonies on a planet, will also remove all colonies on other occupied planets in the solar system and put a single undeveloped colony on each one of those.
If you order an ally empire to attack a The Grox planet, if it was the only planet in the system, they will always place a new colony on that planet Considering this is the best way to beat The Grox, it means that your allies around the Galactic Center get very huge, very fast! And if you're a greedy empire, it's also worth noting that nearly all those planets are single undeveloped T0 planets too, making for very quick expansion yourself when The Grob is taken care of.
