On the 4th page:

"The other place that I think floating points will help is less relevant to consumers. I think floating point will help with the process of building games. I think we'll see much more procedurally generated assets. So we'll see textures, noise patterns, and animation with some components that are procedurally generated. We'll see models procedurally generated in some cases, particularly when there are very large scale worlds with a lot of variety. "

So procedural noise pattern will be included in Spore  ;D

Did anyone mention there is no procedural texturing in the creature editor and no death conditions implmented yet?  :)

Besides, I would expect a more gradual creature change than a sudden change like shown in the demo, maybe you get evolution points throughout the game and then using these points you can buy various parts for your creature (ie: grasper might cost more than just getting a joint, etc). Then one would have a more gradual creature change, maybe when you first walk on land you will still have fins, until you have enough points to remove them later.

Will Wright mentioned very very briefly about procedual texturing in the GDC video (basically he just say "we at working on procedual texturing for the game"). But yes from what you can see in that picture you can combine various texture together to form the one you want.

Early lifeforms interest me, because they were so varried and from the moment life began it has become less and less varried. If, you realise that out of trillions of ways to combine chemicals only two systems surrvived to today, you begin to understant the importance of all life.

Early kingdoms of life were wittled down to form the distinctive differences we know today.
Now that we have begun to explore the deep oreans we can find life using the same chemical system but in very different ways.

I imagine that of all the planetary bodies in our solar system only one other might harbor life and only two others might even have had a chance to develope rudementary life.

Mars allways comes to mind, but of all the moons only Europa and Titan offer promising conditions.

if you wanted to you could begin experimenying into Si/ metal based life, but how would you know where to look for their amino acids?


Anyway, the prospects of lifeforms opperating on different elements is interesting, but the CHON mix seems to be important to life, experiments made into Amino Acids and spontanious formation are proving fruitful and one day may finaly prove spontanious life can come about within certain conditions.

Good post golgrig, as we know life has to start somewhere. It makes sense that the first lifeform appears when certain elements or compounds happens to be somewhere at the right time. Of course that is unless if you believe in religion, where god makes everything and there is no need for science explanation.

If your planet begins as a metalic planet, it might be possible that the creature on that planet might be metalic too.

It is just that stuff like Al, Fe will replace the C and H in our body  ;)

Well obviously that would not be needed for advanced player like you  ;D , it is just that new players (and even some of the more experienced ones) would like something to lead them through the game like a storyline. This could be like one of those on/off feature where you can turn it off if you don't need it.

Goal and Objective in each stage:

I believe this is something that has been missing in many Sims game and just recently partial included in The Sims 2. Player need goals and objectives to dedicate themselves in doing something and maintain interest in the game. How about including a set of primary goals (needed to evolve your species), and a set of secondary goals (which you can do for various awards) that is assigned to you throughout the game?

For example, say in the tribal mode: In order to evolve your creature into a more advanced society, you will have to accomplish the primary goal of acquiring 3 tribes, but in order to do so more easily, the game will give you a couple of secondary objectives that you can achieve, divided into the "Military", "Economical", and "cultural" subcatagory.

If you chose the military path, maybe one of your secondary objective will be to gather resrouces and design a type of weapon, which would help you in conquering the other tribe through military. (Or maybe you can even test it out on one of the less intelligent creature that was hunting you before  ;D )
