I've been away from spore for a little while, playing new games such as Fallout 3, GTA IV etc.  Coming back to the game though, has so far, been a complete nightmare.

I initially found that 99% of my old games either failed to load or had some other problem like certain planets causing the game to crash.  After trying out various 'fixes' found on the forums I could be bothered to read I conceded defeat and deleted my saves and packages and started all over again.  This was no small feat as my buddy list has over 25k creations without adding in the various sporecasts I'm subscribed to, downloading that little lot took the best part of a day!

So here I am with my nice new galaxy and I set about my new race with a lot of the eagerness that I originally had for the game.  Expectations of the upcoming expansion at the forefront of my mind.  After sinking about three days gaming into my new galactic empire I get an 'unexpected error' message.  No problem methinks, restart the game and try again.  This time the game crashes when I enter a different planet.  Restart.  Now the save won't even load.

I replace my 'corrupt' save game with my 'game0.old' and start spore up again, cross fingers click to load up my game... 'unexpected error'... bangs head on keyboard before saying a few choice words.

So my last three days have been for nothing,  I am not sure what to do.  From my last weeks experience any game I make is quite likely to end the same way.  There really is no point in me continuing with Spore in its current state... unless I have missed something, some piece of advice or some 'fix' that will magically solve my problem!

So I turn to you fellow GamingStevers, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT:  It would appear that ALL saves my game creates are corrupt, every single one.  After starting a fresh galaxy I tried to start Spore again today and got a CTD before it even finished loading, I removed the save and it started and generated a new save but that too crashes the game when reloaded.

For anyone who could help I am using the latest patch and C&C Parts Pack.  If I need to reinstall are there any issues regarding the DRM I need to know?  i.e. Is my activation automatically revoked?

I had noticed this too... had thought it was just me or something.  I'm extra careful now when nearing the end of the stage, I generally don't save anywhere beyond the halfway point in case I need to tweak my strategy.

I have buddied everyone I could find profiles for from gamingsteve and currently have 16,858 and counting.  This number goes up by about 500 a day on average.... leads to an interesting diversity of life in my games though!

The one I have seen quite a lot and its the one that can really screw up your game if you can't afford it is when 3 or more aggressive nations demand tribute simultaneously.  Whilst the patch has taken into account how much they ask for it just seems odd that they all ask at the same time.

Use the website to make your sporecast. It's easy. The in-game feature is, as you say, horrible.

Thanks for the advice eleazar, I will give it a go when I next get the urge... I kind of got bored of the idea when it didn't work.  On a positive note I have found that whenever I get bored of playing/editing etc, there is always something else to do.  The perfect game really!  Despite all its little foibles ;D

I decided to have a proper go at making some sporecasts, editing existing ones and making some new ones but I seem to be hitting a brick wall using the feature within the game.  Is the whole sporecast system working for everybody else?

My main problem is the fact that searching for items results in "There was an error connecting to the Spore server." message at least 90% of the time.  This, as you can imagine, makes the whole process unbearably slow.  The only other time I encounter that message is when selecting "MySpore Page" and that is usually resolved by reselecting it.  Other than that I really have no connection problems wit the game, it always logs in first time etc.

Secondly, I tried deleting an unwanted SporeCast from within the game and nothing happened.

So I was just wondering if this was just my problem or whether anyone else was having issues?

Just to confirm my first pirate attack ended the same way, however, my second pirate attack required me to attend, although I was in the same solar system at the time so maybe that was the reason for it.

Just stopped playing for today... and about two hours ago I got my 50 hour badge.  Got my game on the 4th.

After just getting my 'Conclusion' achievement, I too was rather frustrated and slightly worried by those glowing piles of rubble.  I had not expected it (don't ask me why, I know that sounds stupid!) and began to fear that some of my home cities would be unusable.  (Why did no one warn me of the dangers of nukes?! :P)

I can confirm that after an hour or so in space I came back to my home planet and checked the cities and they were all clear.  One thing that did puzzle me slightly though...  there were four cities in civ stage with radioactive rubble, upon advancing to space stage there were still four cities with radioactive rubble but a different four cities ???

That is most likely what happened. I trained the beast into my creature's nest to let the rest of my creatures gnaw on it while I spammed spit. I'm guessing one of them got the killing blow. Poop.

I did an identical thing and did not get the achievement, I also got one epic down to 200ish health and another epic came along and finished him off >:(  (It took me a while to calm down.)

I strongly suspect that the last blow defines who killed the creature, so despite doing 99% of the damage if you are not the creature to land the killer blow then tough luck.

Every charge caused 3 points of damage (with 5 in charge) so 1000HP would take..... (calculates) 334 hits, that's with no mistakes and that is the hard part lol.

Edit:  If you bring some buddies to the fight they just try tanking it and die pretty quickly.

I discovered about this whilst getting my creature wet for the first time... made me laugh for ages.  Also, I saw a little island just off the coast and attempted to glide over to it but you sort of hit a wall a certain distance out and just plunk down into the water.
