This issue has been fixed.
I have uploaded about 10 space max complexity critters.

EDIT:  I was mistaken!  It does work!  Apparently my creatures were not uploading after the server fix because I had repeats of words in my tags.  All better now.  *cheers*

You win. You win. You win. OMG, do you win. That is insanely accurate and awesome.

I've got to totally agree with OpDDay.  That's scary good duck!

Spore: General / Re: Epic Creatures - You share the pictures!
« on: September 14, 2008, 10:16:42 pm »
I actually saw an epic pick up a innocent creature, hold it in it's fist for a while then throw it across the water

Yah, during my first time in the creature phase an epic grabbed one of my possey and jammed him into his mouth.  He eventually threw him then proceeded to stomp him into the ground...  Epics are mean.

Here's the guy who did it:

And here are a few other epic pics I've taken:

Blind Naked Mole Rat!!!

The Epic Tiki Man was cool...

...but a tribe's gotta eat...

This is probably the coolest epic I've seen.

I had a kind of similar experience although the species was not mine, it was Bernini's Jaskey.  I spent a lot of my first game fighting a war against the Jaskey Empire and their evil warlike ways.  I ended up defeating them by allying with their enemy the Wortigons and letting them loose in Jaskey space.  After that long drawn out war, I spent a long time at peace with everyone until I moved a few systems towards the galactic center only to find not one but TWO new Jaskey Empires.  One is a warlike empire like its predicessor and the other is more of a Paladin or Zealot type (can't tell which).  I guess there were still remnants of the Jaskey species after I destroyed their homeworld.  :o

Ok this post is to all who think downloading anything digitally is a crime. ITS NOT. Find me a law that states, that if I download anything digitally, I will be charged and that I will go to jail. Trust me, you will not find one. (As long as your not selling the copies your doing nothing wrong). Its like Counting Cards for example, its not illegal, but casinos don't want people to do it.

Now some of you believe that downloading is like stealing something from a store, its not because guess what the stores have already bought the game and EA has gotten their money, OMG THEY DID. Now if you actually went into a store and stole Spore, then you would be committing a crime.

Now I find it F'ing funny, when people try to tell me downloading is illegal, and its like stealing a car, I just laugh at them.

I am in no way condoning digital piracy, but like I have said ITS NOT ILLEGAL. Its only frowned upon. Also the MPAA, and the RIAA don't make the laws, just rules.

Now you may like to comeback and say people get arrested for downloading stuff, WRONG. They got arrested because they were downloading thousands of songs at once, and redistributing them.

Now I think I have made my point, but their will always be people who think what ever they hear is right.

Here is the law from the U.S. Copyright Office's own website:

Is it legal to download works from peer-to-peer networks and if not, what is the penalty for doing so?
Uploading or downloading works protected by copyright without the authority of the copyright owner is an infringement of the copyright owner's exclusive rights of reproduction and/or distribution. Anyone found to have infringed a copyrighted work may be liable for statutory damages up to $30,000 for each work infringed and, if willful infringement is proven by the copyright owner, that amount may be increased up to $150,000 for each work infringed. In addition, an infringer of a work may also be liable for the attorney's fees incurred by the copyright owner to enforce his or her rights.

In short, downloading or uploading a copyrighted work (SPORE is a copyrighted work) without the permission of the copyright owner (Maxis/EA presumably) is ILLEGAL.  Note that Maxis/EA will almost definitely never give that permission and has not given that permission.  It is an infringment of the copyright owner's exclusive right to reproduce and distribute the work.  You may not get jail time but you can be fined for up to $150,000 per work infringed.  Lets eliminate this delusion that piracy is not illegal because it is and very much so.  As for back up copies I give you this from the US Copyright Office's website:

Can I backup my computer software?
Yes, under certain conditions as provided by section 117 of the Copyright Act. Although the precise term used under section 117 is “archival” copy, not “backup” copy, these terms today are used interchangeably. This privilege extends only to computer programs and not to other types of works.

Under section 117, you or someone you authorize may make a copy of an original computer program if:

(1) the new copy is being made for archival (i.e., backup) purposes ONLY;
(2) you are the legal owner of the copy; AND
(3) any copy made for archival purposes is either destroyed, or transferred with the original copy, once the original copy is sold, given away, or otherwise transferred.

In short, yes you may make a backup copy of your computer software (SPORE) but if you choose to transfer that copy away, your copy must be DESTROYED before doing so.  Additionally the copy you make can be used for archival (backup) purposes ONLY meaning any other use is ILLEGAL.

This is the law.  Piracy is ILLEGAL.  While DRM and SecuROM are by no means an efficient way to stop piracy, they are in place because of it.  I don't care how you argue around it.  The law is clear and the only way someone can stop illegal activity is to implement measures to prevent that illegal activity.  To use an analogy, since they seem to be so popular in this thread, we don't stop theives on the streets by removing security cameras, locks, and other types of security devices.  We stop thievary by improving upon those devices.  Sure they are crap in the beginning but so is everything else in the world.  DRM/SecuROM will get better over time.  The technologies are still in their infancy.  While it may be the case that pirates jump at the chance to attack anything with said protections it is still their fault we have them in the first place.  Saying you choose to download something illegally because you could never afford it in the first place is a baseless argument.  People can afford what they choose to afford.  They use their money where they feel it is most needed.  Video Games, like movies, are a form of entertainment.  If you can't afford it you DON'T BUY IT!  If you can't afford it you DON'T have the right to steal it!  I don't care if you would never have bought the game anyway.  When you start putting these things on torrents people who WOULD have bought the game jump onboard and steal it with you.  You are part of the problem regardless.  Its the nature of peer to peer networks.

If you believe the law is unjust than thats your opinion.  There are measures you can take to change it.  But in my opinion if someone takes the time to put work into a product and takes the time to sell that product then they are entitled to recieve payment for every copy of that product.  Yah, Maxis and EA are in it for the money.  But everyone is in it for the money.  That doesn't mean the things they do are any less important or innovative.  People have to make a living from the programmers to the sales department.  When you download off the internet ILLEGALLY you hurt these people, plain and simple.

Don't hide behind the law because it doesn't shield you here.

Sorry? What's the complexity bug? I think I have it...

Seems the Sporpedia won't take creatures that are of a complexity over 8 or so.  As a result none of my tribe/civ/space guys get uploaded since they're all overly complex.

Thought I'd throw you all an update.  Theres an official Maxis response to the issue at:

http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/15/300.page

He basically says it is "working as intended"... :-[  He says the system bakes the textures on purpose.  But then whats the point of having the textures visible in the editor to begin with if we can never see them ingame?  Very saddening.  Go to the thread and voice your disapproval!  I love this game but I want to see the content presented at least somewhat close to what was intended by the artist.

Here's my first space faring creation:

Hey all,

The complexity bug is a PAIN so I thought I'd make a thread for everyone to post those creations that they are unable to upload due to over complexity.  Hopefully the problem will get patched out eventually but until then feel free to post your tribes, civ creatures, space empire aliens, and even the regular creatures that you can't get past the Sporpedia's complexity police.  I'll start it off with the first creature I took through spore entirely:

The Celestine:

Creature stage

Tribal stage

Civilization Stage

Space Stage

While the "no alliances" advice is probably helpful overall, I found that having alliances early saved me from total annihilation.  When I entered space I was hit fairly quickly with a war on two fronts.  I had amassed 7 colonies at one point and lost all but 2 over the course of 10-20 minutes due constant attacks.  Luckily I had 2 allies, one next to the Tuuk empire (enemy 1) and one next to the Deer Man empire (enemy 2).  I ended up slowly making money back with my 2 systems and paying my allies (think the price is $54,000 sporebucks) to attack one system on my border after another while I helped them.  I let my allies take any systems that became available and I was left with a nice little buffer zone to recoup my losses.  Yah, I had a lot of ecodistaster missions, pirate attacks, and enemy attacks to deal with constantly but once I had that buffer zone the enemy attacks (which are the biggest problem) decreased substantially in frequency.  Theoretically I could have just let my ally do all the killing if I was after a totally "peaceful" path but I was tired of Deer Man/Tuuk oppression so I got in a few shots. :)  Also I found that ally invasions do better if you enter the atmosphere of the planet you want them to take.

Hopefully that can help some of you that are totally overwhelmed.  I play on normal too btw.

EDIT:  Oops, I can see Zoston basically gave my advice already.  It does help a lot.

Hey all,

The darn Deer Man Empire (curse you Deer Men!) just blew up one of my homeworld cities and I can't figure out a way to rebuild it.  Is that city just gone for good or am I just unable to see the "Rebuild City" button?

Thanks!

I'm having this issue as well.  All the buildings, vehicles, and even creature clothing are low res in game and on sporpedia cards even with my settings maxed out.  However when I'm editing things everything is high res.  Some smart person needs to find a work around.   ???

Glad you guys like Gengar!  The teeth were a pain to figure out for a good hour but here's how I did it.  Forgive me for not knowing the actual body parts' names.  For the mouth outline, I took the cheapest horn part and pulled it to make it skinny.  I then used the tab click to rotate it so it was in the shape of a smile.  It took a few horns to get it done.  Thankfully horns don't wobble like other body parts when the creature moves.  I then used those boneplates that have a divide down the middle to make the teeth.  Throw it in the creature creator and you can see it in more detail.  It's actually pretty easy once you find parts that work.   :)
