Spore: General / Re: Rogue and Epic Creatures *Potential Spoilers*

Yeah, I thought they were completely pointless as well until I noticed that off to the side there is a little box that gets filled up with eggs over time that count as food. I was running an omnivorous race so I don't know if herbivores can partake of the eggs.

Spore: General / Rogue and Epic Creatures *Potential Spoilers*
« on: September 05, 2008, 07:34:32 am »

I've recently gotten the game, and I have a couple of thoughts/questions about rogue and epic creatures during the creature and tribal stages. Now, I know rogue creatures seem to be slightly more powerful versions of the creatures they represent with 250 hp. In my first go through with the creature stage I managed to get three rogue creatures in my "pack", yet in a battle with an epic the rogue creatures could be taken down in a single hit. Now, does that mean the rogue creatures are not 1/4 as powerful as an epic, or does that mean that epics just kick that much butt?

On another note, these rogues became my domesticated creatures in the tribal phase. Does this give me anything more than a regular domesticated creature? Even though their titles had changed, they each still had 250 hp, so I knew they were the same. Do they provide more eggs?

Well, the UK credit card didn't work... So it's probably the ISP that they're getting me with. Anyone know a good way to fake a UK ISP for this? I really want to get it to play for a little while due to the fact I'm away on business this weekend and can't pick it up.

Well, if its doing it by the card you pay with, I do have an English bank account with an english debit card, so that might work...

Heya, I was just wondering what prevents me from downloading the English version of Spore on the 5th instead of waiting in America for the 7th? Is there anyway it wouldn't work? I was thinking of using that Direct Download site instead of EA.

Wooohoo! Didn't win first place, but I did get "Embarrassment to your Nation" with my Hotdog  ;D

Another victory for somebody from gs  :P

Spore: General / Re: You begin with 100 DNA points in Creature Stage...

Even if you start out weak its not hard to eat your 1st meal to get enough DNA. However you parts are very limited. Usually only stuff in the left column too.

That's odd that they'd get rid of electricity parts, considering that a couple of complex earth creatures use them (electric fishes, such as electric eels).

From what I've read, that electric attack part is converted to "charm" ability, since electric weapons only work in water. It may be similar for other Cell parts.

That's true. The poison converts to split and spike converts to charge. I forget what the flagella and cilia and jet became though.

Hey Hydro, just since you might know, what does the needle mouth from the cell phase do? Is it herbivore or carnivore?

Cool videos, I am so glad i've taken two days off work to play Spore :D

I wonder if its still possible to use the abduction beam to throw creatures about, I still want to try and get a creature into orbit like Will talked about in one of the really early videos :D

Last thing I heard orbital creatures is out. The abduction beam is still there but you can't send them into orbit. I don't have a quote for you because I'm terrible at remembering where I've gotten information, but maybe someone else can remember the source.

I'll be a bit bummed out if that isn't in... But if that's the case I'll see if I can dump a creature into space while moving. I'd love it if the now frozen creature drifts along the ship's former path. It can be a game to see if that creature is still drifting around later  :P

Man... I really hate waiting these last few days. Doesn't help that I have a few friends that are pretty meh about the whole thing.

Perhaps I should do this to get them in the spirit!  :P

Hmm.. I wonder what the stats are on those needle mouths? I hope in the full game they'll allow us to create things with those types of parts in the creature phase rather than have us muddle through the cell phase each time.

Yeah, I'm trying to find out who has the three millionth myself. Apparently I'm in the running according to a few people on the main messageboards. I've pmed a few Maxis people to find out, but no word yet.

Oh well, there is a week left for anyone that still might want to participate with the others.

well i saw a tool, on Darcie's space tool page that said you could create a creature in the space phase, and it'll make 5 copies of that creature and put them in your cargo hold.

Man, if this turns out to be true I'm going to have lots of fun creating super predators then dropping them off at various worlds. Later I shall return and see if they've overrun the native species...

*shrugs* I give points for creativity while maintaining the basic design. It's just supposed to be a fun little contest and you get soething out of it if you win. If you don't want to participate you don't have to  :P

Heya, I thought I'd give the Gamingsteve community a chance at this contest I've put on the official spore forum. The link to the contest (and where you will need to post if you want to enter) is here:

Well, here's my first contest and of course I'm involving prizes into this mix. This will be the first of a series of contests, the others will begin when Spore comes out in September.

The purpose of this contest is to create your own version of the "spider" from Souled, an online novel. Over the course of the next two weeks I will take in all submissions then come up with three winners at the end.

The rules are as followed:

1. Download the first chapter of Souled and find the description of the spider (don't worry it's a free download) on Page 9.
2. Create your own version of the Spider in the Spore Creature Creator.
3. Post them here: by August 22nd

http: // book_id=249#

The creations will be judged as followed:

1. Adherence to material
2. Coloring
3. Originality (a bit of originality while sticking to the design is a very good thing)
4. Movement (it must move well)

There will be three winners. The first place winner will receive a T-shirt of his/her creation and a physical copy of the novel. Two runner-ups will receive physical copies of the novel. All at cost to me, the winners will just need to send me a pm with their addresses.

Now you might be saying that this is a marketing thing, and it is. If you like what you see in the book you might just want to buy a copy. But in the meantime you can have some fun for free and possibly win a prize.

I look forward to any and all submissions, good luck.
