Spore: General / Re: New Videos at DICE 07
« on: March 04, 2007, 05:19:07 am »
the thing I take away from the DICE 07 videos is that Will's "um" "uh" speech pattern is either a symptom of contagious brilliance or the hallmark of brilliance in people that their brains run faster that their words

Maxis more um's per minute than any other game developer

"may i never be complete, may i never be contented, please tyler save me from being perfect and complete." this is what Joe thought as the phone rang and once Tyler picked up the story really began

the book is darker than the movie in one way: Tyler's actions in the movie are mostly done by Joe in the book
but even Palahniuk credits Fincher with cleaning up and polishing the story that Chuck wrote
Palahniuk calls fight club apostolic fiction, the book is not the story of joe so much as it is the story of tyler as seen through joe's eyes
the movie is the world as seen by joe with tyler butting in

on so many levels both the book and the movie have given me imense entertainment and forced me to examine myself

as for the movie my favorite scene is the chemical burn scene, the score by th Dust Brothers really brought it an edge that the visuals alone would not have, in the book its even more about giving in to tyler and tyler bring up memories of a more rebellious time in Joe's life after he left college

the "Rahmund K. Hessel" 7/11 scene is the best if youve read the book as well b/c jack sees it in the movie , and Joe does it in the book, the question left to the audience is if scarring the **** out of someone to motivate them to live and dream again is right

**if your confused by the Jack/ Joe  thing, the narrorator is "Jack" in the movie "Joe" in the book *

this is comedy gold, like a monkey drinking its own pee it's hillarious and tasteless

it is certainly the best spoof of professional race car driving that will ever be made...... ever!

also cause it states in ma' contract that I must mention Powerade every time I post, I think Powerade is so good, it cools you off, and I look forward to them coming out with Purple Mystic Mountain Blueberry

So , i ..as many love Spore I just want to say , this kind of extremly open gameplay games ,  always get to end as linear and boring or dont live up[ to fan expectations .....as far as I know Spore is looking awesome however we cant expect to get all we want into a game....i just hope poepl like wills awesome project , and the game ends up really open-minded instead of turning into a linear game (aka Fable)

So those guys who are going like...ZOMG I WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE FLYING WATER CRETURE THAT CAN DETERRAFRO M TEH UNIVERSE AND CLIM TREEs...should know that so complicated environments are impossible , it's like saying , i want to make a creture that looks like bahamut sin (from final fantasy VII AC)

yes true lets all just go get fable

get on with ye! your kind is not welcome here!

i too am very pleased with spore's current look except i want more space rts, but as my old man says you cant allways get what you want

I still don't think you can edit it because it is a tool in the UFO menu and therefore it is probably pre-made.

thought the whole idea of SPORE was all content is player made: you see it you can edit it
wouldnt do to have just monoliths be "locked in place"

the monolith from "2001" is basicly an "uplifting device"
since it is the most well know example of an "uplifting device" it is a natural way to catagorize such "uplifting devices".

but if you want to create something with the same power as the monolith a basic building editor with only geometricly perfect shapes and single colors choice would best replicate the awsome appearance without making it silly

now as for me i forsee dropping mighty stone tablets with my commands written on them

great find,

really lauged when they had the interviewer as a little sim compared to the giant WILL
love the little part at the end where will was asked about his Soviet/ Russian Space collection.

tsk. tsk. tsk. politics and religion make for heated discourse
(Don't mistake what america does for what americans want)

wonder what using the genisis device on an already living planet does?
in the Trek film i remember that being the reason the wanted an uninhabited world to use it on

on how a multiplayer world could be made fun:

love the agressive gradient idea but how to completly gaurantee that everyone gets what they want?
"levels of openness"

top most level: the persistant galaxy
 /|\                        _
  | only player        |\
  |                           \ player controled
personal________\  _\|
galaxys                /     micro universes

micro universes: single solar systems up to entire galaxies
creator controls entry and layout and also hosts it
anyone can create a copy of a certain micro universe

the persistant galaxy: everyone can connect and interact with it

center: everyone begins at the center were everyone has complete protection
stars here are of little value life cannot survive here
mid rim: life exists here and players can create pocket universes to contain copies of anything they want
nebula create new stars and planets, untended stars disappear

outter rim: free-for-all zone, no protection

we have it on record that the editors are so simple even the A.I. can use them,
even if this only extends to changing length/ size sliders on premade creatures and re-skinning them imagine the millions of variations you can get.

add in a Darwin mode to find the best iteration of a certain set of creatures and you get literally billions of generated creatures
add aesthetic changes to other objects
and then add those to the millions of random planets and you get a varied universe

« on: May 18, 2006, 12:49:51 am »
so the 1UP video of him making an ocean: all that water came from Comets? he made it magicly appear

hope in the final game the genisis device comes with a cool Star Trek looking thing

and while in the normal scheme of things matter is constant, matter=energy, energy is constantly decreasing because macro space is expanding, but localized creation of energy could be possible (see (Vacuum energy)(Zero-point energy)(Casimir effect))

Spore isn't the "Realistic Simulation of the universe"
Spore is the "Fun Simulaion of the Universe"

heck you want an explanaination for where the Mass (mass=energy) Energy came from?
the energy for all teraforming comes from the planet's Sun, energy is extracted trough micro-wormholes and transformed into matter which is deposited by even more micro-wormholes throught the structure you are modifying

GRRH!- @$#%# eXplorer error deleted original post

only criticism i have is for underground creatures/ city: other than cut-away-view, how do you see something underground?
now as for building down: cliff side like the sinkhole dwellers from Episode III that actually would be cool

for all editors we want more parts and options, no supprise
tribal and civ stages need more RTS like options and play
Space stage needs RTS play already: fleets (independent, single function craft like the tanks/ planes of Civ stage)
More UFO tools: dropable Planetformers for making a creature compadable environment, Stellarformers for making stars and planets from a template, or forming spacewarps that you can drag and drop (point A to point B, drop warp at point A go to point B and drop at point B)
NonBiological life: Vacuforms (hardier lifeforms that need no teraforming), Bioformers (seeded by convienient progenators, ), Berserkers (Will has shown an afinity for the drake equation, aggressive self-replicating machines are an explaination for a quiet universe, and also as an villian to make you the hero)

« on: May 17, 2006, 11:29:07 pm »
I'm all for a multiplayer galaxy take a spacewarp to a free form galaxy everyone can play in: sandbox galaxy

resources are plentiful at the center scarce at the edge
security varies from total at the center to none at the edges
valuable technology in the outer reaches
scan entire planets/ star systems into sporepedia to
make saves, apply saves

pocket universes player built areas were players build entire solar systems and globular clusters and controlled by creator/ users
possible uses: pvp, exhibition, other craziness

a creator could make the pocket universe  nonenterable/ view only/ interaction independent (like normal spore)/ pvp as an arena (for control or as a common area)/ (anyone can scan in a pocket universe and make changes on there own copy)

could use in single player mode to save favorite places or provide for multiplayer use
get into a pocket universe through a personal spacewarp, give access to friends, or public access via sandbox galaxy

to bad they don't wand space stations cause jump-gates (point to point) and jump-drives would give single/ multiplayer more use
build a stargate in orbit of your home planet and link it to your favorite place/s to instantly get there
send friends coordinates for a cool nebula to friends

I'd give them a statue.. a statue that happens to be a bomb. Or a statue of their enemies. Or perhaps i'd create a reverse monolth that devolves them into nothing after long enough. Then come and scoop up the goo to snack on!

Either that or create killer flora and surround all their cities with it. Or.. or steal their atmosphere, or something.. -degenerates into an evil rant-
Kudzu..... I want Kudzu, the plant from hell! like the red weed in War of the Worlds Kudzu that would choke the whole planet
better that it would be like the pods from invasion of the body snatchers and make evil clones of every animal
