I can understand making a game that is cute, and fun, etc. Hell I may even buy a game like that from time to time. But when i got excited about spore, it was the creation. I could mold planets, drawing all over them. I could create an entire ecosystem on a planet, making a creature, placing it down, heading onto the next creature in the line to make, etc.


I could go back and play an RTS if i wanted. I could do a role playing game with highly flexibilities in the "class" i wanted to play.



I can understand releasing the current spore maybe later to feed the cute crowds and little kids. But when i got excited about spore, i got excited by something that has yet to be released. I fear it will never be released. With EA's general business practice i somehow doubt that many of my problems will never be resolved (my most anticipated part, molding planets has been effectively burned down and then used the ashes to grow a small plant that has yet to flower)


Overall i don't have much hope, but there is a flicker left. The idea that there are all of these "prototypes" and the fact that the content was cut gives me hope. I do some slight web design and graphic design, and from experience i never throw stuff away. Whenever i start heading in a different direction I save and make a new file, always keeping the old. Hopefully EA has bits of the old system saved away somewhere, still salvageable.

Every day i come to this board I feel more and more of an urge to simply visit a little bay not far from here. It has so many things, all of them free. Its like EA is testing the water to determine what will encourage people to pirate their games the most.



(P.S: In regards to those talking about the Starcraft 2 thing, from what I understand it will be a terran campaign in the first one. But there will be like 30-40 missions or something. Basically it will be the length of the first game, but solely concentrating on terran. It will still be full price, and roughly 1 year later or so the next game will come out, concentrating on the zerg campaign i think, and adding 2-3 units for multiplayer, similar to the way brood war was when it was released.)

I've been getting frustrated with sporepedia lately (the online one at spore.com, not the in game one)

I love searching up various things, such as "alien" or "zerg" or "cthulhu" but I can find any way to then sort these creations beyond "newest"


I can select "most popular" but it does nothing. Is sporepedia failing that much that it can't sort creations that you specifically searched for, or is it simply broken for me.

Spore: General / Planet Problem

So I've had this VERY annoying problem of when i arrive at a planet often is is completely land, it is a simple glitch. I can fix it instantly by using a tool that changes temp/atmosphere, but it is still a problem when i spend 2 hours working on a planet trying to get it to look how I want it to (because they removed the original drawing tool, WHO'S IDEA WAS THAT?!)

But then I come back and it is all gone generally, when I made the planet a sanctuary it removed my ability to use the atmosphere/heat tools, so now its permanently stuck in this complete land look it has (which is nearly the opposite of the waterworld i had designed)


Anyone know if this is just me, a way around this, or is it a prevalent problem waiting but unlikely to be fixed.

Why does G4 have to suck so much? Its no longer about the tech, the videos on the website don't work half the time, and when the videos do work, they tend to switch videos on me half way through without any kind of action on my end

i've easily loaded this video like 4 times now and whenever i can get around to a part i'm interested it switches on me.

EDIT: +2 more on the "random change of videos when doing nothing"

Screw it, i'll try what the guy after me said and wait

I want branching missions where you have to decide. 

Such as:

You may deliver the super spice recently found to either: a planet ravaged by famine or An ally needs it on the war front. 

I think its good to be forced into a dilemma with no easy answer.

Easy decision, my allies. Who cares about the aliens? They'll be dead, and can't grief to me about it later.  :P

I remember seeing this on digg the other day. I actually am getting a push for my engineering club at school to produce one. Things are looking good for producing it.


But this is somewhat spore related. There has been talk of being able to order a 3-D model of your creature. Does anyone know what format the game saves your creatures as? It may be possible to print them out yourself.

I don't know, did anyone consider Will Wright got the idea from, well, Real life?

I'm not trying to bash the topic creator, or Noctis, I just see this alot, where people say its a copy from another game, when its in real life originally. Should we criticize Call of Duty "Holy crap, ripoff of WWII, so unoriginal"

:P Spread the word, try to stop this when you see it

I said it earlier, and some seem to be ignoring it, people are clinging to the word "perfect"

Don't look at it perfect, as in a literal sense of perfection by definition. But rather a creature that is very well managed, it is relatively fast, strong, defensive, etc.

My point originally is what does the game do for those creatures with very little competition? If you have three people, two weak, one is strong, i'm talking about the strong person. What does he have for competition?

ok, so we've come to a consensus that it is a universal water level thing, meaning digging deep holes through your planet's crust != fun, since it will be filled with water always.


But lets look at other situations with the water. If you completely evaporate every single drop of water, is it possible to see the huge differences in ground level? think how amazing that would look, try imagining the earth when it has no water, now picture that in a spore setting.


Or will the only way to achieve this result in a lava planet as seen in one of the videos where they pump a lot of greenhouse gases. For that matter, what are the various ways we can lower the water levels.

So my friend and I were discussing various means to kill off civilizations, in a more ingenious method. One thing we both looked forward to was modifying the land to have a giant bowl basically, and put a lot of water in it. Then, simply release the water in the direction of the city.


But one thing I've been wondering, does the game even have abilities like this? The most I've seen water do is rise and fall, but will we have water effects? Like if I crash a meteor into the sea, will there be a ripple even, enough for a wave that destroys coastal cities? etc.

If there is a video that shows this that I've looked over, sorry, but please do include a link so i can watch :)
