Also, never, ever defragment an SSD. Ever.

Why is that? What happens?

There won't be any compatibility issues that I am aware of. And there's no problem switching to Windows 8, but make sure you get some time with it before you buy. It's definitely different and you want to be sure you'll like it. If you've done this already, great! But yeah, nothing wrong with 8.

RockPaperShotgun released this article which gives a good rundown on how to shop for SSDs and what to look for and is what I've used as my reference. I took their recommendation on the Samsung 830 for a few builds I did for friends and they have had no issues. Their installs were also like yours, with the OS on the SSD and not much else. As well, the Samsung is touted to have superb longevity, which is what I usually shop for.

Otherwise just shop around and find the best price. Installation won't be much of an issue but you may want to check your motherboard's specs to determine if they are in need of an upgrade. For instance if your current motherboard is SATA II and you could make the numbers work to get the new SSD with a SATA III motherboard... that'd be a vast improvement.

Should be enough food for thought! Let us know if there's anything else. We're happy to help! :D

Thanks Patman! Not the first time you've helped me out!

Hi guys, was wondering if I could get some advice.

I'm looking at treating my PC (running windows Vista) to a nice upgrade.

I was thinking of getting 8 when it comes out, but also sticking in an SSD for the OS and programmes to run off, and then use my current HDD's just to store media.

I was wondering if somebody could advise me on which drives to choose.

Is compatibility an issue?

Cheers guys.

Yeh I have no qualms with buying the game, it's the playing on his particular map, and with him, that is what we're trying to get at.

Ok, so this question has possibly been asked on this thread, but with over 300 pages, I don't have the time to go through it all.

A friend of mine has recently gotten Minecraft, and put quite a few hours in making stuff, and I've spent a large amount of time over his shoulder watching.

I want to get the game now, and join in with his game.

Unfortunately I have no idea how all the server malarky works. Is there any way to upload the game to a server (preferably for free) and play it, but privately with just the two of us?

I had a dream last night that I was eating the worlds biggest sammich. It was delicious.

... one Lucid Dream...
...drove like a nutter to a random club which was full to the brim with hot girls.
...Then I woke up...
You got cheated. Call dream support and demand a refund.

Waaaay ahead of you

I've only ever had one Lucid Dream...

I was in my parents car and my little brother was driving. And I was like "wait a minute...."

So I got him to pull over, switched seats, and then drove like a nutter to a random club which was full to the brim with hot girls.

...Then I woke up...

Hey, more music-tech-related help needed.

My Dad has asked for a PC to amp wireless connection. I found this online, but I don't know how good it is, and it seems to be out of stock everywhere.

Any other recommendations? Don't worry about price, my Dad is a bit of a wannabe audiophile, so he'll want something fairly expensive, even if I don't end up buying it for him myself.

Is it just me, or is there abosolutely no custom content out there?

All I have found so far is objects which people have stylised...which I can do myself.

Good enough for me. Just stick it in and press "format"?

I changed where they were connected to but somehow it still manages to load the OS.

Formatting the disks would take me back to the start right?

How do I go about doing that?

So I'm now writing this from my new PC. It's awesome and stuff.

A massive thanks, mainly to Pat. Cheers.

Edit:

Ah dear, I knew I screwed up somewhere.

Blindly I installed my 2 540 GB SATA hard-drives as RAID...so now I only have 540GB total capacity.

Is there a quick fix or do I have to reset the whole thing?

I use ambrosia and epic aging. That way I'm set for 178 days.

The thing is, I only want some sims to not age.  The rest I want to watch wither and die.  ;D

...nice

I've already been invited to about 4 groups about that.

Anyway, some people did analysis of the results and found that in one region the number of votes for Ahmadinejad overshot those of eligible voters....so yeh, pretty blatant now.
