Same here!!! Although the error connecting to sporepedia thing has been happening to profiles for me for quite a while.

Yeah it has been happening to me for quite a while too, but I only really noticed it when I started adding loads of GamingSteve members. For example I just tried to add you to get a better look at your stuff but it just point blank refuses to let me. What annoys me the most is that because I don't post here all the time, I forget peoples names / sporepedia names and so some awesome stuff that I could have been going "ooooh" at becomes lost if I don't make a note of things.

I don't know, maybe another valid suggetion seeing as I'm on the topic of the Sporepedia is to eaither just go the whole hog and give it "social networking" capabilities (instant messages, in-game chat) or to allow people to post comments / love on someones main sporepedia page. Also, in the sporepedia I think it should show more creatures without you having to "click for more", simply because there is all that space with nothing in it.

:)

I second the "Fixing the servers" thing, as for about 2 days now I've been trying to add someone to my buddies list but every single time I try I get an "Error connecting to the sporepedia" message. It's highly irratating.

My suggestion is just a simple one at the moment:

Bio-luminescent creature parts. I don't know how hard that would be to do, but seeing as we have glowing parts in the vehicle editors it seems plausible that glowing creature parts could be added too.

I've been playing on my flatmates computer (http://www.spore.com/view/profile/Malkav83  <-- go check his page out if you want to, it has creations from just about everyone I know on it so it's quite a varied page!) and I think I speak on both his and my behalf when I say that we love this game :)

1) I still get the initial feeling of "ooh" whenever I play the cell stage. My flatmate and I both love this stage and I think that randomly enough it has become something of a favourite. It's not our absolute favourite, but I am sure we are probably getting close to playing it very silly amount of times now, hehe :)

2) It's great fun to explore space. I was so looking forward to getting the "wormhole super warp drive" thingy so I could go off and explore - it's awesome! The wormholes are such a nice touch and its good fun to go through them because you are never quite sure where you will end up (woot for Return Ticket, hehe)

3) I love the fact that you've catered to so many different playstyles. That's quite an achievement in itself, to be perfectly honest. It means that my flatmate can go on a rampage and I can do the whole Jean Luc Picard diplomacy thing. I'm really looking forward to seeing where you go with the diplomacy gameplay side in the future.

4) I can use my graphics tablet, in the way it was designed to be used, in this game. This is a super awesome thing, because no other game allows you to draw things into creation and have it still work, look good, move in an acceptable way, then allow you to take control of it and go on a mini MMO style adventure with it.

5) The music is awesome. My favourite is the tank / plane / boat editor music, as it's got that subtle beat thing going on in the background and it often helps to put you in the mood to design some evil looking airplane or something.

6) Back when I used to play a game called Creatures, creating a new type of creature was a seriously hardcore endevour, requiring a mini team of artists, programmers, genetic programmers and item programmers (and if they really went for it, seperate object artists too) to work very very hard over many months in order to create a brand new type of creature to inhabit the (single, sidescrolling and somewhat static) world. Everything had to be done by hand.

A long time ago, a group of us modders and general fans went up to visist the company that made the game, and while standing there watching them create all of these things for expansion packs and the game, I noticed a strange bit of software I had not seen before. I asked them what it was and they said it was basically a "creature editor in a box", whereby they drew some of the sprites needed to create said creatures then the program automatically sorted it out so they worked.

I had a mini fit (not in a bad way, hehe) and asked them why they didn't release it to the community to make modders lives easier. They didn't. Maxis however, have not only released MANY editors, but they are all far more advanced (in 3D! No way!) and amazingly easy to use. This alone makes me happy. :)

There are many, many other things I can comment on about this game, but those 6 points right there (there were 5, but that last one appeared in my mind and I considered it essential) hit the core things that I really love methinks.

+1 internets to you. :)

I was a member of the CC aages ago. I tried to make the sprites for some Norn dudes that went around assimilating things, was amusing. :)

You gain 1 cheese point.

Spore: General / Re: Is anyone NOT experiencing problems?
« on: June 19, 2008, 10:17:11 pm »
No problems here, running on XP on an ok-ish computer. I've not had any of the bugs anyone has talked about so far, bar the creature uploading bug which happened once and then has not happened again.

Spore: General / Re: Anyone else a little disappointed by the CC?
« on: June 19, 2008, 09:16:04 pm »
I'm not really disappointed with anything. The only thing that comes to mind is I could perhaps do with more parts - mouths and decorations (never enough of those). Other than that, I believe I can safely say that this is the first demo I have not only paid for, but have been willing to pay for, and considering the amount of time I've spent in it already, the amount of time my friends have spent in it already, and the way that simply by being there it can provide endless amusement when my friends are over, I think that it was worth every penny.

Nope, no real dissapointments.

Thing is, it's not perfect, but I find myself willing and happy to forgive it's glitches, because I understand this is just one little fragment of the greater whole.

Bring on the vehicle editor! I fear what my flatmate will come up with :)

It's great to see everyones creatures - even though there is the other thread with creature links in it, there are still many gems hidden away in the profile pages here. I think I've commented on some already, others I've just seen and downloaded to get a better look at them. If you want to comment on my creatures you are more than welcome to (link is in my sig).

@ DarkDragon:

79 creatures? Crikey! I knew you had a few but I didn't realise it was that many! :D

I wish it would tell me how many people have voted for my creature(s)

Yeah I would like to know some stats or something too. I don't think my page has had that much activity on it, but it has had a little and it would be interesting to see how my creatures are *actually* doing out there in Sporepedia land. :)

Dunno if this is the right place guys, so accept my apologies if it is.

My Spore name is Cueban. Take a look at my critters if yas feel like it.
Tag i use is Gamingsteve, or gaming steve.

There is a cool thread floating around (the "Support your fellow Gamingsteve creators" thread - it could possibly go there or the Sporepedia exchange section but I'll take a look anyway, hehe :)

Ditto. I've tried to comment on most of the people I come by, but the only person to comment me was.. well.. me! :(
Don't know if I should be proud, happy, or sad.  :)

that's just the way: The more you socialize, the more your potentially good creatures get exposed. I guess it's like that too, I'm not always commenting but I vote alot. But when you comment on others , they often also return the favour somehow

The Sporepedia works very much like Deviantart in my mind - you have your Fav's (thumbs up or down) and comment box, as well as featured content and the like too. It is a commonly known fact that on Deviantart in order to get a stupid amount of pageviews there are two ways of doing that;

1) Be an insanely creative / talented artist
2) Comment until you can comment no more

The same will be true here.

^^

I completely forgot about that creature - its like a crazy Tyranid / Zerg cross almost. Now that I've been able to sit down and play with the creature creator properly, its funny to look at a picture like that because its almost as though it has the look of a spore creature to it now. I guess thats just the power of the editor :)

Nice Acklay :)

I was quite happy, because I hadn't come across anything like that. To be honest, I partly thought that the reason people were going on about it was because they were actively looking for that kind of thing or something, having been talking about how much they've all been dreading this possible eventuality. Then a little while ago I loaded up the front page of the sporepedia and was greeted by the sight of one!

Guess I was wrong about how unlikely it would be to just stumble on to one.

Glad that that sort of stuff is going to be banned to be honest, as it means that people who are either sensitive or very young need not have a care in the world, if EA's meathods are effective. Here's hoping they are.

Whee, more things to comment on! This is fun - I like to think that I'm making the other person smile when they load up their sporepedia and see a message there for them :)

I just made it, but I am going to have to take this dude with me, because I really really like it :)

I call it the Araphel! It's a very vibrant birdlike creature thats got some eastern stylings to it, as well as having the graceful elements of a fish. It's got a 5 in many different abilities (its abilities are rated at something like 25 in the top corner thing) and its a herbivore.

Thats just fantastic, really, I'm actually going to have to play this guy in the full version.

Hehe, I downloaded that dude too :)

Now it seems my mini hive is expanding. I've got that dude, a Genestealer and my Lictor now - seen a couple of Zergs about too. I don't want them all on my world at once, but I'd find it funny if things like that Tyranid became a predator I had to run away form or something. :)

Spore: General / Creature Creator + Graphics Tablet = Win!
« on: June 17, 2008, 06:57:41 pm »
Just got to say how impressed I am that someone has finally made a game that I can use my graphics tablet with. I felt that this deserved some kind of post because aside from maybe simple flash games, there has never been a game that has been this graphics tablet compatable. I find that with a tablet the attention to detail I can put on my creatures is for the most part better (however increasing / decreasing the size of things is best done with the mouse).

It strikes me as being somewhat revolutionary that this works so well, and I thought that if any other artists out there have not thought of doing this yet, to give it a go!

All I need now is painting / texture support in the game and I'm away - the thought of using my tablet to paint on textures is awsome and if there was any way to mod the game (I understand that the textures / colour use programmed things) this would be a good first step towards it.

Sorry, don't mind me - just suprised and happy that it works seeing as it's never worked before! Haha!

They were not telling fibs when they said they wanted this game to help expand creativity. :)
