By the time we're able to do it, the concept of a videogame will be a thing of the past. I'm not being short-sighted, I'm being as realistic as I can be. All the things that make human beings so difficult to pin down won't be fixed by newer technology completely, IMO; it's something that's difficult to pin down even in abstract or physical terms. If you were to try and pick apart what makes our current attempts to recreate humans lackluster, does correcting those issues fix the problem? I don't think it would. Sure, it might be better but there would still be a myriad of undefinable issues standing in between the designer and making their creation look real enough to fool even us.

That's very short-sighted. We've only just reached the point in technology where we can accurately map the human face. Given time, we will be able to mimic the exact facial expressions of human beings, but it will take time. People once upon a time said that we would never make it into space, but we did. People said the same thing about many things, but we did. To say that we cannot do something like this with the proper technology is just asinine.

I'm a FPS novice, so will you guys please enlighten me on how BF2 sucked? (really quickly, don't want to stray too far off topic).

There's quite a few reasons. To begin with, the aiming mechanics and the actual effect of being hit are completely off. For instance, I can unload a whole clip in someone from only a few feet away and still miss due to either recoil, moving around, or something else entirely. Even if I do hit a few times, I'm not guaranteed a kill due to how the damage fluctuates so much. A pistol, for instance, can take 5-8 shots to kill someone, even if you hit them in the head. Yet sometimes, everything works the way it should and you can hit people from a mile away and kill them. It all simply fluctuates so much that it is impossible to maintain any level of confidence with the game.

Then you also have the fact that there's absolutely no direction in the game. By that, I mean you're given all of these bases to take, but due to the way the game is structured, you can take all of them at any time, which leads to both sides sending one or two men out to cap some flag behind enemy lines, which is just foolish. You shouldn't be able to take a flag behind another flag if you're not controlling it. The action should be concentrated in one or two places, not all over the map. This is why Quake: Enemy Territory will be a far superior game.

This is coming from a person that, once upon a time, could always come at the top of a CS, Quake, HL DM, or UT match. I mean, I could headshot people from anywhere. Yet in BF2, I

If you don't like that playstyle, that's fine -- but I wouldn't consider what 6 million gamers (and not newbie ones either) consider excellent to be crap. There is something lacking from MMO combat on the whole though, IMO, so you have a point there. But I cannot foresee anything with the same "lock-on & enter combat mode" style topping it. We've had that style of combat in these things since UO, for crying out loud; it's time for a fundamental change.

Well, I would consider it crap regardless of what 6 million people think. I mean, let's look at it from a worldly perspective - how many people are willing to accept tyrannical governments, and sometimes, even welcome them? Quite a few! Why the hell should I trust what 6 million people think?

I think the 'rush to photo realism' is a goose-chase. I honestly don't believe it will ever be achieved. Maybe in landscapes and the like, but I can't see it ever reaching a point where we look at a CG human being and cannot tell the difference.

That's a little short-sighted, don't you think? -It- will happen, we simply haven't reached a stage where we can see the possibility of it due to inferior technology. Never say anything is impossible, because if humanity has proven anything, it is the fact that an impossibility always becomes an impropability and then it becomes a possibility before actually being.

That's quite an overestimate.

Actually, millionaires account for .13%(approximately 8.7 mil as of the last check this year) of the world population. So what do you think a billionaire would account for, especially since there are less than 1,000 total?

11
You do realise that will still leave him with more money than 99% of the worlds population right?

Heck, 99.999999%.
