Spore: General / Re: Is Spore Dead?
« on: May 09, 2010, 06:42:23 am »
Hmmm, been a while. Dunno if Spore is truly dead but the game basically ate my best and oldest save, rendering the Noripod empire (and I spent hours on it so this was a pretty large empire with all tech and space game toys) a distant memory, mainly because I basically re-installed because the game started going weird on me after the save delete and if the Noripod empire was bugged it was basically game over because it had its massive tendrils in every spiral arm.

Hows the Gaming Steve Spore community?.

WTF is that supposed to mean?  ???

It means people get banned for the word "damn" or because a creature looks just a tad too explicit is someones overactive imagination.

Here in the UK it is still a very offensive term, up there with the 'n' word.

No it is not.

No, I'm pretty sure calling a black man a wog here is grounds to have him punch your chops into the back of your head.  ::)

Quote
Something that they perceive to be bad or impolite.

Children learn their sense of bad or impoliteness mostly from their parents. At a young age the only person finding any offense or threat from something as silly as a word is you, if I may be that blunt. :)

Your child simply wont have developed or learned the means to understand the concept that a word is honestly "bad" or "wrong".

Ironically its that overzelious urge to protect their kids from something that causes silly situations where a word and other things conveyed to them as taboo.

Theres tribes where women walk about completely topless and the menfolk don't bat an eyelid, but because we so completely sexualize and make taboo the human body, our kids see how we react to that and they adopt our silly attitudes towards legitimate language and "indecency" into adulthood and continue the nasty cycle.

"Damnation" (or, more commonly, "damn", or "goddamn") is widely used as a moderate profanity, which originated as such from the concept of punishment by God[citation needed]. Until around the mid-20th century, damn was a more offensive term than it is today, and was frequently represented as "D--n," "D---," or abbreviated to just "D."
So according to Wikipedia, it is a profanity, but a moderate one.

It gets censored in Spore Creatures.
Maybe just to be safe, whenever we're going to post a comment in Spore we should first type it into Spore Creatures and make sure none of the words get censored...

Here are some other words you can't type in Spore Creatures because part of the word gets turned into stars:
homogeneous, farther, japan, snigger.

Also, apparently the word "owner" is not allowed either. Although owned, pwned and pwner are all okay.

You can't type porn, but you can type pron.

Damn is only consered a mild explitive if anything in the US, everywhere else its just a word.

When I still went to church long long ago, 12 or 13, I used damn in a sentence, and these American kids (our church always seemed to import a token american family, Mormons ey?) were all like ":O".

Silly muppets.

In short, lol at EA and Spore's crud.

Considering EA's staff turnover rate and how it treats employee's, I think sinking the great ship Electronic Artanic is worth the sacrifice, for a hard lesson to be learned and hopefully help game develoeprs and publishers finally bring customer satisfaction and treatment in line with other retail/service based industries.

Thats good to hear, I installed Spore on my new computer so I'll need to start a space game again, seeing as saves (and creations) don't transfer over even though you only have one account.

Tuskoraptors to space!.

8
You'd better have a good reason as why they survived. For example:

"K LOL THEY MAID A HUUUUGE HOLE IN DER GROUND AND THEY STAYEDIN IT 99999999999999999 YERS AN THEY LIVED LULZ"

Would be a very valid reason.

Tuskoraptors are an extremely old nomadic space faring race that are spread out and move from galaxy to galaxy, oh and they arrived after any doomsday wars of doom.

GG.

9
I RP'ed once but not many folk took the bait, a pretty lackluster entrance of my beloved Tuskoraptors to the galaxy.  :-[

I like how Spore could be modded to have some really great RTS play. Imagine fleets entering a new system and going about setting up a proper colony system, units on the ground, real trade routes and real in frastructure.

*salivates*

You know what, I like it because its the first galaxy I've ever had.

How many galaxies have you guys had to mess about in as you wish?.

12
Indeed, makes you wonder, does Will just think the galaxy is too big so its capable of hiding a good few secrets, or are there really something to be found/gained from playing for a year?. :S

Spore: General / Are you getting achievements?.
« on: September 14, 2008, 04:30:32 pm »

Of course then Amazon went and did EAs bidding:

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080912-amazon-gags-spore-critics-deletes-all-customer-reviews.html

I'll put it simple in case you don't wanna read all that, EA expected to sell 2 million copies of Spore until the end of September, thanks to DRM many people went on a rampage giving Spore a 1 star rating on Amazon.com, not only that but Spore will soon become the most illegally downloaded game OF ALL TIMES (proving DRM doesn't work) with 500,000+ downloads so far.

Then suddenly the 1 star ratings on Amazon "disappeared due to a glitch", yeahhhh... right.

The problem is with the word, might.

Not might, will.

EA needs to remove it, since EA is a cold hard business even they should know that this is only harming them.
