MASSIVE amount of spoilers about the space phase, pretty much lays out every single badge to be earned, item to be used, upgrade to be had, etc.

Spore: General / Re: I want to play the original Spore.
« on: June 27, 2008, 09:54:05 am »
Well it seems like enough people here get it that the 2005 demo was just a proof of concept.  Yeah, maybe they could have been a little more forward back at GDC/E3 2005 and said "this isn't the real game, we're just starting actual production on it," but I honesty don't think that would have stopped some people from complaining that the final product doesn't match the demo 100%.

People also seem to ignore there are plenty of features that have been added to the game since the initial demo as well.  Back when they were demoing it, player content distribution was going to be this mysterious transparent process that you had no say in, but now we have the Sporepedia and community that goes with it, Sporecasts, etc.  As for gameplay elements, we didn't know about epic creatures back at GDC 2005, or being able to edit music for your city's national anthem, etc.  And I'm sure there's more we still have yet to discover in the months to come.

It's silly to obsess over one or two negatives when the positives far outweigh it.

All that stuff is allready being implemented.

Well, according to his email address, he's from EA, so he might know better :)  But yeah, I would definitely be interested in an API!

Spore: General / Re: Playing CC makes you want Spore more.

Any time I see a video of Will demoing Spore it really makes we want to play the full game more than anything else.

If you open a creature in the in-game Sporepedia, you'll see the stats and abilities listed on the right.  Click on an ability, and the creature will do the animation for that.

I'm not talking about in test-drive mode.  It's wierd you can't test those animations in test drive, but just viewing the creature's card you can test jump, bite, charge, spit, etc.

The good thing is that if people are getting warned and/or banned now, that means by the time Spore comes out, there will be that many less people still uploading this kind of stuff to Sporepedia.

I'm not really offended by this stuff, but I don't want it in my game (just as much as I don't want a Pikachu showing up in my world).

Spore: General / CC - Chris Hecker wants examples of bad animation!
« on: June 18, 2008, 05:15:47 pm »
http://www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=srch-maxischecker%3Asast-500000030628

Chris Hecker (the lead programmer for procedural animation in Spore) wants examples of broken animation for debugging purposes.

Tag your creature with "breakprocanim" and Maxis will search for creatures with that tag and take a look at them.  It might be useful in the description of the creature to describe what's going wrong.

The more feedback you can give the team, the better they can make the final product in September!

Everyone's order has disappeared from their EA order history.  They'll be working on fixing it, I'm sure.

Perhaps there was some major issue and the only way to resolve it was to clear out the order completely and make us re-order it.  Sort of like when a cashier is ringing you up for something, completely screws something up, and the manager has to come buy and void the transaction completely.   As long as I don't get charged for my original order, I'm OK with this, but it would be nice to get an email or something.

Ah well, it's only been an hour so far.  I'll give them a little more time, not like I can play it anyways, I'm at work.

Well, now my order has disappeared from order history as well.  I don't see a charge on my credit card anywhere, so I guess they were going to charge us today for the order.  Perhaps they just ended up cancelling our orders and we have to re-order it.

If I get home from work and this hasn't been resolved yet, I'm just going to go ahead and buy it from D2D.

I hate EA. I made my new account, validated it, tried to log-in... It says no records found, blah blah blah. So I changed the password, and still nothing. A minor problem compared to the people that can't even download it atm, but is anyone else having registration/log-in problems?

I've had an issue logging into my EA account via Firefox before where it keeps saying invalid password, but I could log into via IE.  For some reason the account login page on Firefox is just this grey box, but the page that loads in IE is white and has an EA character on the righthand side and stuff.

EA's online store clearly states 12:00 CDT (as in noon, not midnight).  It's currently 8:45 CDT, so 3 hours and 15 minutes left.

It's actually 12:00 CDT, which is actually noon in Central time.

So 1 PM in New York, 10 AM in California.

Heh. They just removed Mr. Hankey.  Copyright complaint?

Copyright, and inappropriate content.  The first casuality of Spore.

I'm curious if baker011 and those non Maxis/EA named users are authorized test users, or people that got their hands on a copy of the creature editor in advance via illicit means.  Perhaps Mr Hankey was a test to see if their content flagging/removal system worked.  Or perhaps it was just in fact a random dude who made Mr Hankey

Are we informed of the precise time when the game will be released for download? (i'm not talking about the date, but ex at 12:00)

12:00 CDT

So 10 PM (Monday the 16th) for people in California, 1 AM for people in New York.

Also, SpaceOddity is reporting that WalMart is advertising a June 19th release date, but there hasn't been any official word of that, and EA's store still says the 17th.
