Spore: General / Re: I think we all just got owned
« on: June 15, 2008, 02:08:58 am »
' Due to the leak Jube posted about earlier Maxis have decided to shut down the ability to login or register an account for the Creature Creator Trial until the official launch date of June 17.

Players attempting to login today are greeted with a message saying their installation is invalid and the login fails.
They can continue to play with the Creator without logging in, however.

With 12,000 creatures being added to the Sporepedia in the last 24 hours and around 48 hours between now and the release, that's going to be a lot of creatures being designed and held back for Tuesday!'

Still, that's only 300 megabyte by my calculations (25kb per creature average). Heh, while the The Sims 2 servers must be about several hundreds of Terabytes big by now, the intire Sporepedia might just be on one tiny server.

If we get 12,000 creatures made with the leak, imagine the influx once it's released.

Now wait for four months.

That's 400,000 creatures easy. Probably more.

They'll need more than one small server in the end, that's for sure.

If there is asymmetry, it isn't in the trial version.

[Reserved for future content.

ETA: twelve hours]

When I got the E-mail from MaxisCactus about the Creature Creator, I almost freaked out. After I installed it and loaded it for the first time, I had a funny feeling in my stomach. I also felt like it was a dream, like I was going to wake up any second. It was a very strange feeling that I don't think I have ever experienced before.
I am glad they picked me and to get the Full Creature Creator. Now, if they had just sent it to the person who owns, everything would be complete. I guess they chose me since I am the contact person for SporeSite. I'm not sure, but I am honored to have been chosen by Maxis for a second time.

That's what I'm talking about!

Perhaps all copies of the creature editor are laced with a subtle audio tone that causes the effects of LSD or something.

To answer your question: Sure, why not?

To ask a question of my own.... do you even have the editor yet, or are you just fantasizing?

BTW, it's not "officially out" yet, as you're saying... that would be the 16th/17th as you should probably already know by now.....
Just because some fansite people got it doesn't mean it is "officially out."

It's out enough for me. Also, I wouldn't exactly be able to experience it's splendors without having it, now would I?

Well how about that, this thread has lasted all this time!

Well, it's out. The Spore creature editor i officially out.

Now, I've been waiting for this for quite a long time. Hell, I've had dreams about the damn thing. Though, now, playing it, it feels like a dream. Like it'll be fun for a while but then I'll wake up and it'll be gone.

You know, it's strange. Just the creature editor itself, just the music and the parts and the style, it's kind of weird. Like you're watching a life form evolve, that's it. It feels like evolution.

Just playing around with it, you create these zany creatures, large, small, many legged, one legged, six armed, no armed, it's strange. It's not bad, not at all. In fact, it's really good. Too good. It's like it actually lives up to all of my expectations, every one. Even more, it surpasses them. I feel like this game was tailor made to amaze me, though I guess that's just the Will Wright magic.

All of this, the perfection, the dream like quality, the fact that I can barely believe that I'm playing it. It all comes together to form this feeling I just can't recognize. It's like some mutant offshoot of nostalgia.

Does anyone else have this, or am I just mad?

I just love to watch Mark Bunkers videos on this, they fill me with joy unknown to me for so long.

They said that no one would show.  ::)

That's because in most peoples minds, Anon. is the lesser of two evils.

Isn't it?

Anyone seen any of the stuff on the raid on Scientology?

I'm kind of confused, Anonymous actually did something... and people are congratulating them, not incredibly evil people at that.
