Spore: General / Microscopy in the Spage age.
« on: May 22, 2007, 10:07:02 pm »
How do you think that going back to the tide pool will be handled in the space age? Will you be able to land somewhere, get out a microscope, and have a look at the various protista that are swimming around?
Will you be able to bottle them in a test tube? Will there be an aquarium-like testing lab, where you can put food/competition down and see how the little critters react?

You obviously won't just be able to fly into the microscopic world with your UFO unless you had a shrink ray. Although that, in itself gives rise to new possibilities: a cell-sized UFO that can fly around the primordial soup. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.  :D

PC Games / ThreadSpace: Hyperbol open beta.
« on: September 30, 2006, 09:25:21 am »
Hello again, I come to you now, after all this time, to announce that a truly great game has gone into open beta.

Set in the far future, in which alien technology has jumpstarted human civilisation, war has broken out, and created conflict between three factions. Combat takes place bewteen ships, with a variety of (pretty cool) munitions being thrown around.

The way in which this is done lends Hyperbol to a genre genre of it's own. Being a blend of RTS, RPG, MMO, and action, it's a genre I like to call PVRTT (Persistant Variable Real Time Tactics). It's an interesting and fun gameplay paradigm that is truly new. The visuals are stunning, the audio is pretty damned good, and the community is an awesome bunch of people.

I urge you all to check it out at the official site, because it's just too awesome to pass up.

Seriously, though, it is a really fun game, pretty cool, new, nicely strategic which remaining action-oriented. Check it out.  It will be going in to full-scale release in a few weeks, so get in quick. it's really polished and nice.

I'll leave you with a few screenshots:

Everything Else / Flash!

I was just cleaning up my computer, and I came across some old animations and stuff, and it got me wondering: do any of you people in here animate in flash? If so, maybe you would like to show some animations?

Spore: General / A lead on an early creature editor.
« on: April 19, 2006, 06:11:36 am »
I was listening to the Caryl Shaw talk from GDC of this year, and shee said, after stating that the editors were a blast to use, that she was looking forward to distributing the editors to the community.
Whether this is only a tentative yes, a referrence to the release of Spore, or a thing that will happen before the release is anyone's guess, but I am sure we will find out more at E3, or closer to the release of the game itself.

Spore: General / Thank you, team!

So far in these forums, upon the discovery that Will Wright and the Spore team are following our exploits, many cries of thanks have gone out to The Big W.
While this is a great thing, I think it is high time we thanked the people behind spore, the people who get hardly any recognition (except in the credits), The Spore team.

Thank you Team!

Console Games / EVO - The search for eden.

Has anybody played this game? It was made by Enix, and has an evolutionary theme. It's quite good for something of the time (being made for SNES). It's a little basic, and the storyline is a bit weak, but It is fun and can be blasted through in a few hours.
