Spore: General / Spore CC Contest (PRIZES!)
« on: June 24, 2008, 09:32:29 pm »
Sporewiki (through support from the Wikia staff) is hosting a Spore CC competition.  We're taking submissions for creatures from the Spore Fanbase and the best will be voted on and the winners will receive a copy of the Spore CC signed by Will Wright along with other prizes (to be announced soon).

So show your skills and follow the simple instructions on the wiki HERE to submit your creatures for this contest!

Please keeped this bumped so as many gamingsteve members can participate as possible.  Also, if you can pass this on to any other spore fansites you know please do so so that we can have a larger pack to choose from!

Good luck to all and have a great week! :)

Spore: General / Sporewiki - Submit your creatures and help out!
« on: June 15, 2008, 04:10:34 pm »
Hi guys!

We're set to take creature submissions at the wiki, see post 3 for more instructions on that!

It's about that time for a rehaul and I could use some help with setting up the wiki for all the new changes we've had the last few days.

I've moved the creature database we've all known and loved to Concept creature database so that they can all be preserved and expanded upon forever.

The current Creature database will house everything useful for our in-game creatures.

I don't wish to be in competition with the official sporepedia because of course that is a losing battle.

That being said there is a lot of things that the sporepedia doesn't do, that sporewiki would be great for.  A few notable things are:

An ability to set up backstories for your creatures
To list the parts of the creature (what parts, where about are they?
To accurately describe your creatures design (color/texture/ect.)
To explain how it moves
To detail how you made some complicated parts
To give any further details that simply looking a picture could never give you

I'm sure there is plenty more and that's another reason I could use some help, to find our best niche.

Also, Creature creator doesn't exist yet and could use some images.  I'll supply the full version shots of all the parts, but the rest of the parts could be listed and documented, along with their complexity* and other stats.

Again, I'm not looking to recreate anything that is easy to find and more organized elsewhere but there is a lot that can be done that would make sporewiki useful.

Just really outlining my plans here and hoping someone would like to hop on and work with me on some of this, let me know.

I'll be waiting in the sporewiki gabbly chat here:

http://gabbly.com/http://spore.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

if anyone wants to help.

I suggest that we all put a tag "gamingsteve" on each of our creatures, that way we can make it so that you can get a full listing of creatures made by gamingsteve members just by searching for that tag.

I saw hydro do it and thought it'd be great if everyone did so we can organize ourselves.  And of course they can all be changed in the future if you want to remove it.

I just finished mine.

Spore: General / Spore Concept Art

Christian Scheurer, Spore concept artist

I'd post some here, but it's much easier to see it there.  There are some very very interesting things in there, all concept art I know but the ideas are so out there, take a look.

I posted this in the regular spore forum, but this is mostly to give those who frequent this forum more a lot of ideas for creatures and vehicles, and planets, and plants, and all sorts of other things.

Buildings...in what seems to be the creature phase, there is the creature phase status bars, and everything.  Why is there a building in the top right?

Any ideas?

Spore: Creation Corner / SporeWiki hosts Wallpaper design contest

I don't know if there is anything like that here, but I think this is the best place to let people know about it.  So come on over and show your stuff.  Or at least get some ideas working.  Who knows, maybe I'll find a replacement for my own wallpaper through this :).

Thanks to navenfaux for giving me this link so that I can put it on the wiki.  It is simply awesomness and even if it serves you no actual use in creating your spaceships, it's still a cool link.

Spore: General / Planet creation in the WW interview with discover
« on: July 23, 2006, 07:45:14 pm »
http://www.sporewiki.com/Will_Wright_Interview_in_Discover_Magazine.

The phrases:

At the godlike level, you can almost do the whole creationist thing if you want; "I will create a planet; I will create a species; I will put them on the planet."

as well as:

A player can create ringed planet and watch the moons orbit leisurely for hours.

lead me to believe that you will be able to directly create planets, not just terraform.  Which is a big plus and something that was in doubt before.  Perhaps that is what the Terrain editor mentioned on the E3 demo was all about?

Spore: Creation Corner / Swiftick
« on: July 13, 2006, 10:05:07 pm »
So...I've made it possible for about 124 editors to submit 249 different concept creatures into the sporewiki creature database.  So I figure I might as well make my first creature to be number 250 and editor 125 :).  I haven't made anything thus far because I'm not very good at making things in paint/photoshop.  But then I used the creature editor by hugg and others (sorry, you know who you are though), and I made something I liked, so it's time to finally make my own creature.

I plan to get involved in the fanfics here, so if anyone has any cool things the Swiftick can be involved in.  I'd love to here about them.

SporeWiki page for the Swiftick

I just have the iamge for now, but I'll be making updates

Spore: General / All creatures created with the spore creature editor
« on: June 18, 2006, 09:38:28 pm »
This is a collection of what I believe is every creature made using the creature editor.  It's entirely possible this is redundent and already known, but maybe everything isn't already known so this might be useful to some.  Just thought I'd post it. :)

Spore: General / Strange release date listed on EA australia
« on: June 02, 2006, 08:20:15 am »
Thanks to a friend Jackson for this, if you go here, let me know.

If you go to eaplay australia...

http://www.eaplay.com/australia

and log in you're able to track games and they give a fun countdown and stuff.

If you have Spore tracked it shows an actual release date, "15th Jan 2007"  Here is a picture from the page:

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a374/Mason11987/sporerelease.png

This is...very strange.  This is an EA site and they are showing a 15th of january date.  I took the "not this fiscal year comment" seriously because it was from EA, but to then show spore comming out in january mixes things up, what do you think?

Spore: General / Gamingsteve article on SporeWiki
« on: May 21, 2006, 04:18:42 pm »
There was recently a page set up on sporewiki about gamingsteve, and I'd like to offer it up to the community here to write a good article about steve, specifically about what he has contributed to spore info and about these forums.  Since we got a lot of our stuff from here it seems only fair.  Also, I know that a little a while ago steve's entry in wikipedia was deleted and there was a drive to get people here to support it's re-addition there, so I thought having THIS page is a good second to the page at wikipedia to serve a similar purpose. :)

Spore: Creation Corner / SporeWiki Creature Database Gallery
« on: May 18, 2006, 06:21:22 pm »
I set up the SporeWiki Creature Database Gallery for use along with the Creature Database when the game is finally released.  That way you could see all the pictures of the creatures that have been submitted and pick the ones that look cool.  Each box will eventually include a download link.  Tell me what you guys think, since a lot of hte people who submitted stuff came from here, I thought gamingsteve would be the best place to announce this. :)
